Just so you know, I love movies and series with substance, artsy, original and out-of-the-box. But they have to make sense somehow. This series (starting with The Young Pope) is all about the cinematography, which indeed is very good, but there is no plot and no nexus in the dialogues. There are dialogues in which the characters make a statement and in the next sentence they immediately contradict that same statement. There is no coherent plot, the characters also have no real stable personality or direction, except maybe for Voiello.
I managed to watch it all from beginning to end because I told myself this was surreal and not meant to make any sense, so I just tried to enjoy the ride, but I guess I'm not the right audience for it. I do love surreal, artsy movies and series, as long as you can take something from it that makes sense to you. I got nothing from this one. The main character turned out to be completely devoid of purpose, objective, logic, evolution, resolution. It was always morphing and going back and forth, shifting directions, becoming a different person. I just don't get what this series is supposed to be and give us, besides an opportunity for kinky sex and boobs, like others have mentioned.
I found it a waste of really good actors and a potential good story.

It's an entertaining movie if you just want to be distracted for a while, but like so mamy other french comedies I have watched in the past years, this one is also just a sequence of clichés and stereotypes. It is the more annoying that the whole premise of it is that this city guy has lots of preconceived and insulting ideas about the villagers and is presented as disrespectful to the villagers, but then he is himself a walking stereotype of a modern city dweller, but it is totally ok to make fun of him. Maybe a lot of people are ok with that, but I don't enjoy biased narratives with two dimensional characters. It needs to be complex and believable, even if it is a comedy. Aso, it needs to be self aware and this movie isn't one bit.
I enjoyed this series and was anxiously waiting for a second season. It had similar vibes to the X-Files. No other show had come close to that for me.
I don't get why networks start series and don't bother finishing them properly. I know it's purely financial reasons and I feel like it's a total lack of respect for viewers. They used to at least do another season or a few more episodes to bring it to some closure, now they just couldn't care less, they leave us hanging on a cliff or kill the main characters and move on.
I was invested on this show and it went absolutely nowhere, but it was good while it lasted.
