The Duchess (2008)
Knightley Soars, Fiennes Shines
Where did they dig up this one? I found the film delightful. I am not one for costume dramas so this was very surprising and opened many doors.
Some people complain about the historical errors. Who cares? Films are made to entertain.
Keira Knightley performed beautifully as the naive and grand Duchess of Devonshire. She executed her lines perfectly aside from a certain "What's wrong with me?" which could have had a little more emotion.
Ralph Fiennes was amazing. Being a dedicated watcher of "Harry Potter" I certainly wasn't disappointed. His hypocritical, egotistical and sex crazed 'Duke of Devonshire" ranked in evil right up there with Lord Voldermort. He was my favorite character, portraying an "evil and inhumane" character when at the end, shows a little humanity.
Dominic Cooper played a serious role, which worked for him, for once. He played Georgiana's lover in an extremely explicit way. He was wonderful. Good to look at, good to listen to.
A couple of things I want to point out.
Although this movie is PG 13 (or M in some cases), it is all to do with sex, rape, politics, alcohol and gambling. So before you rush your children to the cinema, thinking that this will be a wonderful historical experience for them, consider the explicit sex scenes.
A wonderful watch and an even better read.
Mamma Mia! (2008)
Marvelous!
I didn't even need to read reviews or watch commercials. I didn't need to see the Broadway play. As soon as I heard there was a Mamma Mia Movie I had to see it.
The characters blew me away as well as an array of amazing actors. Most of my favourites were in there: Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Julie Walters were amongst the greatest in this movie.
This play, aside from having an amazing choice of Abba songs, is a story about a girl who is getting married. She wants her father to give her away, but however, she doesn't know who her father is. She reads her mother's diary and finds that there were three one night stands nine months before she was conceived so she sends a wedding invitation to all three of them. The plot is followed by drama and comedy.
The comedic older trio will make you laugh. Brosnan and Firth will touch your heart.
An amazing film. Do watch!
High School Musical (2006)
Marvelous Movie: Cautious Complaints
This movie is pretty good. I watched both the first and the sequel. They were both good, there are just some things that I don't like. I'm going to put them in writing.
1. Zac wasn't really singing. 2. They let Vanessa back on after she did her nude photo scandal. 3. Ryan isn't with Gaby. 4. Troy and Gaby always end up together (unrealistically) 5. Sharpay ends up nice at the end of each movie but then goes back to bad.
For all these reasons and more I believe that HSM 3 should be for the fans. I don't know about you, but this is what I want to see.
My Desired Storyline:
After breaking up with Gabriella, Troy becomes friends with Ryan who then gets together with Gabriella. Sharpay sinks her claws into Troy and says that she'll help make Gabriella jealous. Chad tries to become smarter to impress Taylor and Taylor becomes a cheerleader to impress Chad. In the end: Troy is single.Gabriella ends up with Ryan. Sharpay and Taylor start a gal group and Chad goes back to Bball.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
This Is For Everyone!
I am eleven years old. And be that as it may, I am a girl, a girlie girl in fact. So you must be wondering, what business does a girlie eleven year old girl have watching Pirates of the Caribbean? Well, I'm bursting to tell you why.
When I first heard of Pirates of the Caribbean I thought 'Oh! Not another Pirate movie!' But when the second movie came out, my father insisted that I had to watch it. At first I tried to get out of it, but then when I finally sat down to watch it, I fell in love. Jack's tricks, Elizabeth's sense and Will's courage are what kept me going.
After I had watched it, I wanted to watch it again and again. Now I seriously think that my parents are sick of it. One thing's for sure, I'll never be sick of it.
Pirates will never get old and this movie will be a legend forever!
The Nanny (1993)
Good For Minors
I am eleven years old. This may seem to young an age to understand The Nanny, but ever since the reruns came on television, I became hopelessly addicted to it. The Nanny is a show that is funny, romantic and very surprising. Where else can you find crazy Jewish humour? Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a mid thirty year old woman who is fired from her job and dumped by her boyfriend. Her troubles take her to the doorstep of Maxwell Sheffield. The rest as we say, is history.
Charles Shaughnessy is Maxwell Sheffield. A widowed man with three children. He is not sure of Fran first but eventually she grows on him.
Other outstanding performances from Daniel Davis and Lauren Lane.
House M.D. (2004)
Sure Fire Hit - What A Hospital!
House is an exquisite show. What else can I say? It's drama with a hint of sarcasm. Hugh Laurie has another hit on his hands.
House has been going on for three years and I only started watching this year. Even though it's very different from other things I watch such as The Simpsons and The Nanny. I felt like it was love at first sight. House is about a man called Dr Gregory House who deals with different dramatic patients every episode. Some think everyone is out to get him. It seems like he has no emotions but under that and that he is a sensitive man.
This show has taught me all about the human body with a new twist: It's interesting!
Friends (1994)
Friends - Like These
Friends is a fantastic comedy in which everyone has their own story and would give anything to tell them at The Central Perk.
The actors and actresses who made this possible are Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox Arquette, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimer, Matthew perry, Matt Leblanck.
It all began when Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Joey and Chandler were at their favorite coffee place and Monica's best friend from high school, Rachel, runs in. Soaking wet. In her wedding dress. Crying. The rest is history.
My cousin and Friends fanatic first persuaded me to wacth Friends and it was really good. now whenever I'm upset, she uses Friends lines to make me smile again.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
Austin Powers - A Man Of Mystery
Austin Powers 1 is a clever sexual comedy with seat-off-the-pants action.
When I first watched this film, my parents asked me to because my father was coming back from Canberra and it's one of his favorite movies.
So I begged them to watch Mrs Doubtfire but instead we watched Austin Powers 1. I thought it was going to be boring, but watched anyway, just to be polite.
One quarter through the movie I was in love with it! I loved Mike myers from the beginning, but never knew that he could be so funny! He was absolutely hilarious and that drew me to watch the rest of them!
Legally Blonde (2001)
Legally Blonde
Legally Blonde is a wonderfully self raising film. It has taught me not to listen to people who tell me I can't do it. Elle's detirmination reminds me of myself. And Emmet is a very clever man. Legally Blonde can be classified as 7/10.
Legally Blonde is about a girl called Elle who is very girly and loves things like boys and make up. At the beginning of the movie, Elle's boyfriend Warner Hunington III decides to take her out dinner. She wrongly believes that he is going to propose but instead he breaks up with her because he believes that because he is going to Harvard Law School, he needs to marry someone serious.
So Elle not only proves that she can get into Harvard, she can really kick butt as a lawyer too!
