My kids enjoyed watching this. The graphics are great, and I don't mind the fictional liberties taken to make the history more interesting- otherwise my kids probably wouldn't watch it. What I do mind is the narrator saying "your ancestor..." in reference to a fish getting it's first backbone.
This is a movie which, be forewarned, takes party with the rest of the 'intellectual' morons who treat Darwin's Theory of Evolution as fact; when in reality it is just that: a theory. A theory which will one day go down as the biggest practical joke in academia history. Anyway, check it out. Decide for yourself.

Like most people here, I saw this film as a child and loved it. I remember the whole feel of the movie was very sad and didn't understand why. Now as an adult, with children of my own who love this film, I understand the feelings of regret and what it means in this movie. I have to give this movie a ten because of the depth of emotion that it captures, something that is not found in many of the latest children's movies cranked out by Disney, or Pixar, and what not. This is a movie about a unicorn who leaves the safe haven of her forest, and ventures out into the big, bad, ugly world of humans to find out if there are others like her. This movie is haunting. Something about the butterfly is disturbing too, the way he goes from talking complete nonsense and lighthearted chatter to complete and deadly seriousness. It is early and I am probably not making much sense lol. But this movie examines some very important themes regarding human nature. The villains in this film aren't necessarily evil or bad, but frighteningly human. The magician and Molly aren't perfect either, they have anger, sadness, regret, and goodness. By the end of the film, the feeling of regret that the unicorn now feels is truly felt and understood (to anyone who has ever felt regret). It's not necessarily a 'happy' ending, as in most children's films, but it is not really a tragic either. It is realistic though and unforgettable, and a little sad just because of the way it rings true to real life.
