Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)
Does DC stand for Disastrous Cinema?
I don't think the reviews on IMDB do justice to what a God Awful job the creators of this film achieved. Okay it's a musical, but the least they could have done is make the musical numbers relevant to the story-line. I may as well have been watching Puddles Pity Party Feat Lady Gaga (which ironically I probably would enjoy)..
The film is basically a court room drama, with a romance sideline story. There is absolutely nothing DC about this film apart from Location and Character names. You could Joker to Janitor, Change Gotham to Chicago, and have Lady Gaga play a character of a different name, and the film would be pretty much identical.
And to anyone interested YES it IS a musical. I estimate that about 50% of the film are musical numbers that don't move the story along.
I think what vexes me the most is the cast. It's great!, and the actual ACTING is fantastic. But this film did not work because some "Blue-sky-thinker" at Warner Bros, said in a board meeting "Hey, here's a crazy idea... Why don't we make it a musical???". To whomever that person is, I hope your personal hell is watching this film on repeat for the rest of eternity.... Actually no.. I have sat through this film, and the once I sat through it felt like an eternity. I wouldn't want to wish that on anyone.
One of the first things someone is going to do when this hits the internet is go through and re-edit this film to cut out all the musical numbers.
I would like to go further, but fear that my account would be deactivated if I actually said what I want to.
The Irregulars (2021)
Bit rubbish really.
Now don't get me wrong, the acting is okay, even the direction isn't too bad.. It is the entire concept that is rather rubbish. I know people have kept saying "It's based off a graphic novel".. I don't really care. The graphic novel sounds rubbish if this series is based on it.
I was really hoping this was going to be in the Sherlock family but from the perspective of the Irregulars. Witchcraft and the such are not part of logically minded that is at the core of the Sherlock character. No wonder the Sherlock character was throwing up in the second episode. I nearly was as well.
Arthur Conan Doyle is going a steady 10,000 rpm in his grave at the moment.
The only reason I haven't given it one star was because I don't blame the cast or the director. This is a poor concept, realised in an adequate manner.
Venom (2018)
Easy.
This was very easy to watch. Don't expect a deep and meaningful film. This is a straight up comic / action film. Tom Hardy plays Eddy Brock / Venom perfectly,.
I would really recommend seeing this film before slating it. Make your own mind up about it. Personally I really enjoyed it.
Paul (2011)
Did I cry like I did when E.T. died... Or went home?
No.... I cried with laughter at the majority of this film.
The films starts quite slow. Starts as road movie with two British geeks taking a life time dream of a trip around America visiting various sites where meetings with aliens are suppose to have happened.
The star of the film is a CGI character called... You guessed it Paul.
This film is more than a comedy. It makes fun of people's conceptions on race sexuality and just about everything else that is suppose to be politically correct that we aren't suppose to talk about.
If you have the right mindset for this sort of film you will find the film entertaining and funny. If you wish to look deeper you will find other things as well.
In the mean time... "Hey f*%k nuts... It's probin' time!"
Almighty Thor (2011)
Is this the worst film I have ever seen??
The simple answer is quite possibly yes.
The joke is though that this film is so bad that you can't even laugh at it.
I found myself cringing at the appalling dialogue. The CGI was very poorly done and the camera work in general was very dodgy to say the least with lots of shaking.
The "acting" (if you can call it that) was appalling. Whether or not this is due to the poor directing or that they are actually that bad (which I fail to believe) is unforgivable, and some might even say criminal. As someone who has done some acting, if I was in this steaming heap, I would want my name removed from the credits.
This is defiantly one to avoid if you value your time. It is 1 hour and 30 minutes I will never get back.
Even Alan Smithee wouldn't want to put his name to this.
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)
Oh dear!!!
I have only seen this film twice. Once when it came out when I was but a small lad of 8 years and now 20 years on.
What a shame that this was the last film Christopher Reeves will be remembered for.
I remember thinking that this was a great film when I was 8 but now... I can see the reason why it never made it to TV before. If anybody wants a copy on DVD mine is up for grabs on ebay.
I want to keep my memories alive of how good the first two films are.
No wonder it took them 19 years to get round to making the next superman film. They wanted to make sure everybody forgot about this pile of elephant excrement.
If you are a fan of the originals and have fond childhood memories of this film do yourself a favour and AVOID THIS FILM like the plague.
