The Private Eye (2024)
A Movie you need to see twice!
I saw "The Private Eye" first in a theater a few months ago and absolutely loved it. Interesting story with several twists I didn't see coming and the cast was amazing led by Matt Rife, Clare Grant and Eric Roberts. With what I discovered at the end of the movie (no spoilers here), I can't wait to go back and watch it a second time streaming. The flash back sequences along with the unique film noir were very well done. I rate this movie a 10 mostly because for a low budget indie movie (probably done for under $3M), it was very well done and most importantly a GREAT story! Can't wait to see what Jack Cook comes up with for his next movie!
The Smell of Money (2022)
A powerful, MUST-SEE movie!
I got to attend an LA screening of The Smell of Money documentary last night and was blown away by what Sean Bannon, Jaime Berger and the rest of the production team exposed. This was such a visceral, shocking film that I recommend everybody watch! In addition, what was so unique about this documentary (unlike so many others), it did not at all cover or dive into all of the animal rights or animal suffering issues, but for the first time eloquently focuses on the rights of neighbors, living by these hog farms as well as the rights of entire impovershed neighborhoods surrounding these massive factory farms. This film exposes the entire political-industrial apparatus that is clearly a broken system. Without any spoilers, the filmmakers leave you at the end with a few "Calls to Action" and hope for change and a better future I applaud all of the producers for creating this powerful, MUST-SEE movie!
American Fiction (2023)
Don't miss seeing this movie in theaters! You will laugh your ass off!
#AmericanFiction was an emotional roller coaster from the very beginning of the movie. So full of laughter to the point where it almost hurt it had so many funny moments! The movie looked interesting from the trailer, but when I saw it last night in a packed theater the laughter was absolutely contagious. It was possibly the best "theatrical - community" experiences I've experienced of any movie. Kudos to Cord Jefferson, his producing team and the cast led by Jeffery Wright (the best performance of his career). Don't miss seeing this movie in theaters! You will laugh your ass off, even if you don't get along with youyr family or friends your brought with you.
Welcome Space Brothers (2023)
Unexpected Surprise of a movie... loved it!
I saw "Welcome Space Brothers" last night at the LA Music Festival at the historic Los Angeles theater downtown and it was absolutely packed with curious moviegoers like myself as well as a few dozen "Space Brothers" in costume. The Director Jodi Wille spent about a decade investigating, interviewing and getting to know an eclectic group of modern science followers at a school in Southern California. Without giving any spoilers here (I purposely did not want to know too much before watching the film and promised to keep an open mind), as some of these types of groups, some people often have the perception that they are part of a cult or fanatics. In my opinion, that was not the case at all. In fact, it was a group of people committed to learning, empowering themselves, being the best versions of themselves they can be in this lifetime, as well as living in peace, love and harmony, nothing wrong with that, and after the screening I attended, there were a few of the former students from this group that I enjoyed speaking with. This positive, inspiring documentary shares a valuable lesson that life is very short, that we can all learn more about our inner self and should always strive to be the best, happiest versions of ourselves we can be!
The Holly (2022)
Powerful, MUST-SEE film!
I got to see "The Holly" recently in Los Angeles and was blown away. It was a riveting , thought provoking and inspiring movie that I highly recommend people check out. No spoilers here, but there were a few twists I did not see coming. Terrence Roberts as well as Julian Rubenstein (the Director) truly inspired me with the journey they have been though for so many years. This movie takes you along their wild ride and the journey that they both went on and it will not dissapoint. This film is an Academy Award contender for sure. I am telling everyone I know to go watch this film! A powerful, riveting story that I am glad was told!
The Meanest Man in Texas (2017)
LOVED this movie!
The Meanest Man in Texas is an amazing true story put together over many years by producer Brad Wilson. For some reason I had missed it when it came out just a few years ago but this movie features incredible acting performances by lead actors Mateus Ward and Jamie McShane. There are a few scenes that might be a little tough to watch and possibly be inappropriate for very young children (under 10 years), but this is a MUST SEE movie with a very inspirational ending! There is no gratuitus excessive violence added in that is not part of the actual story and the unexpected love story twist at the end was very heartwarming. I absolutely loved this movie and so glad I finally got to catch it.
Blood Pageant (2021)
Interesting "reality" premise for a film... Loved it!
Great cast including Snoop Dog, Stephen Baldwin, Ted Lange, Beverly Mitchell, and David Chokachi (who was really funny). I really enjoyed the shananigans that often happen on "real" reality shows that everyone watches these days. No spoilers... but it does get a little bloody at the end & some very impressive visual & special FX. Check the film out... you'll have a lot of laughs & maybe 1 or 2 screams!
Chasing the Green (2009)
Great inspiring "true story" film!
I really love this film. True, inspiring stories of two kids who never got to go to college or business school, but chased their dreams anyway. (Unexpected twist at the end & I won't share any spoilers). Fantastic cast including Jeremy London! This film also goes under the title "Big Shots".
Bujaeui gieok (2018)
The most Powerful Documentary I've screened this year
I was absolutely floored when I saw this film. The filmmakers had footage from the teenagers on board the ship, news stations, helicopters, drones, and later the heroic civilian divers. This is a must-see film that we can all learn lessons from, so that a tragic event like this never happens again. I met some of the family members at the screening who all support this film as well. Very powerful film!
Art of Deception (2019)
Great indie film that has it all!
The first time I watched "Art of Decepetion" I loved it. Great cast, some romance, lots of suspense and several awesome fight scenes. Keep an eye out for Richard Ryan the next few years... a talented young actor who is going places. Richard directed & starred in this film.
Another Plan from Outer Space (2018)
Interesting Story with a Twist ending!
I really enjoyed this sci-fi adventure film. It had a little bit of everything including lots of "conflict" when things start going bad. Excellent cast and a few surprise twists & turns along the way including a big twist at the end of the film! (Sorry... no spoilers, you'll have to see this film for yourself). :)
Mad Max Renegade (2011)
Great Fan Film... loved it!
I was lucky enough to attend the LA premiere of "Mad Max Renegade" and did not know what to expect being a short (fan) film. One of the toughest challenges for any Writer-Director is to tell a complete story in a very short time frame which Paul Miller was able to do with this clever Mad Max fan film. One of Paul Miller's strengths is having a long history as an Art Director and that really showed as the detail of all the wardrobe, props, and the setting which the film took place was a true homage to the Mad Max films. Miller was even able to have an Australian "Interceptor" star car in the film! Great casting all the way around and a nice twist at the end of the film which got a lot of laughs when it was revealed. Anybody who enjoyed any of the Mad Max films will really enjoy this fan film... it was very well done.
The Tenant (2010)
Great story line... enjoyed the film!
I was lucky enough to see an advance screening of the film "The Tenant" & thought the story line & characters were very well developed. I wish more filmmakers these days spent more time developing a solid script before they start production. These film producers started with a great concept and a well polished script. The film had some known actors like Bill Cobbs (who happens to be one of my favorite actors), Michael Barryman, and J. Larose as well as other solid veteran actors including: Randy Molnar, John Kyle, Georgia Chris & Justin Smith who all gave solid performances. This film does not feel low budget at all, and serves up just enough blood & guts for die- hard slasher fans to get their fill as well. Overall I would rate the film 9 on a scale of 1- 10 and would recommend this film to anyone who likes a suspenseful movie. The cinematography by Jose Cassella (I have seen his camera work before) was brilliant and combined with the original music made the film move right along.
Tournament of Dreams (2007)
Inspiring film worth checking out!
This film does not have any A-List actors or a huge studio budget, but what is does have is heart & soul. I was quickly drawn into the story and enjoyed the positive vibe of the entire film. In this day & age it is good to see Directors do such positive, inspirational films. I would recommend this to anybody (not just sport enthusiasts). The casting was good as well as all the characters seemed very real & believable.
Maybe some day a studio or TV network pick up on this story line and do a follow up or a spin- off? Food for thought as more and more people these days not only like to be entertained, but also like to be inspired!
If you are looking for big budget, special effects, fanfare, hoopla you won't find it with this film, just a character driven story which will make you think after you finish watching the film.
Facing the Giants (2006)
Inspiring Film
This film is a cross between "Rocky" and "Remember the Titans". Although apparently done on a fairly low budget, the film looks good and it was very inspiring movie that is well worth the whole family seeing!I would recommend anyone seeing this film especially if they want to change their life or see an "uplifting" film that will be more interesting than your typical Hollywood spin-off, sequel, or remake.
I hope that these film makers continue to make more films along these lines. I have not yet seen "Flywheel" (their 1st film effort), but plan on watching that as well. There is some more info on their website as well. Visit: http://www.facingthegiants.com/home.php to get more info.

The Vault (2005)
Well worth watching!
If you are a film buff and the type that likes serious action and great fight scenes, then this is a movie well worth renting! This is the second indie film that I have seen starring Bas Rutten and this guy has a great screen presence. I would compare him to being a cross between Arnold Schwartzeneger and Vin Diesel. I heard this movie was low budget (less than a million $), but it did not look low budget at all. They must have put every penny up on the screen. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It is available at just about any video store. I can not wait to see their next film... hopefully they will have another movie out within the next year!
