The Tomorrow War (2021)
Amazing action/thriller by my favorite Chris :) but sadly with a plot that's a little rough around the edges..
The movie was great, checked all the boxes of action/thrill and adventure. The cinematography and visuals were near perfect with a few jumpy moments in there and acting was just great adding a little humor and light comedy at times.
The idea of the movie was very good had some genuinity and it made made think of reverse terminator somehow ;) Now the plot is where the movie falls short,,, starts with the explanation of time travel , they tried to but all I got is "time is like a river flows only in one direction" !! Like come on!!
The other thing, about which most people were furious, is that how a just a bunch of people have to save whole humanity instead of asking the UN for more troops and uniting countries to get more soldiers and kill aliens in Russia .. While I do agree to a point where we know how politics work .. I mean we've seen the UN struggling 50+ years trying to solve some global issues without a single progress ,, so this how politics work and how action movies do, One man gotta save humanity.
The other issue is saving Muri and few people in the future ,, the movie did somehow bring the idea of going to future again to save the people in the future !! I mean thankfully they didn't stress on that idea,, I mean If you kill aliens in the present , then they seize to exist in the future, right !! No problems there so why try to milk it.. but again this all comes due to the lack of explanation of their idea on time travel.
The cast were great, from Chris to Sam Richardson and J. K. Simmons , they were a very good trio ... Yvonne Strahovski was great too, she's #1 ranked on IMDB this week .. applaud.
Anyway, despite all the little couple of holes in the plot the movie is very good, very entertaining and definitely very recommended.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021)
An entertaining sequel
The movie is good , maybe not he best sequel to ever happened but the for the story of Peter Rabbit it is very fun and very enjoyable for a family to watch.
I had some issue with James Corden voice ,, I mean .. I well .. find his voice very annoying but I try to relax and take it easy and all works fine :D
Anyway, the plot is good very fun and purposeful ,, doing good, friendship and focusing on the your partners in life and doing good,, Domhnall Gleeson tried to carry the comedy part in this and it was very good,, his nervous/angry comedy expressions were spotless.
The movie is very recommended of course.
Wish Dragon (2021)
Even though it would look somewhat familiar, The movie still has its own lovable and enjoyable identity ...
The movie is as some reviews say a modern era Chinese Aladdin .. and there were actually a lot of similarities in the story of the Dragon/genie but still it felt so enjoyable and the story does feel promising and purposeful with an adequate amount of genuinity.
The animation is very well done ,, not like some of the last animations I've watched last year ,, it does look professional, glamorous and easy on the eye.
The plot is familiar but again entertaining and put in a modern way, the script is very quick, very connected and definitely very funny which what added that bit originality of movie.
The movie is very recommended.
Lucifer: A Chance at a Happy Ending (2021)
Just another masterpiece of a finale ...
What an episode !! Felt just like a 21st century mythical Greek epic ... The story still leads us to an unavoidable war and the screenplay was just giving us a little hope somewhere to hang on to .. up until the end.
I have to mention again, that I still can't get over how "Dan" story went , in which I hope they do something about next season (Some news say he'll be there for the final season in some capacity) ... but the whole cast were just amazing still engaging after .. well .. 5 years now.
Anyway, as a whole season it was just unbelievably amazing,, Netflix still know where to spend their money, and as it stands the money spent on production and cinematography was totally worth it.
The sixth and final season has already wrapped filming just before season 5, Part 2 premiered, So here we go to a final season, we're waiting for the release dates to have a one last ride on this highway to hell, or heaven :D who knows ! :D.
Lucifer: Daniel Espinoza: Naked and Afraid (2021)
Most probably the best episode of the season so far ...
Daniel made this episode the way it is ... His facial expressions and his brilliant nervous comedy , seeing him getting out of a hole to only fall into another ,, man the dynamics in this episode was way to high, you just keep following the story rooting that Dan would just "be free" and this situation would be over just to find him in another even funnier and more dangerous one... The rapid change in the plot just made us on the edge of our seats with an immeasurable amount of Action/Drama/Comedy mix.
Shout out to the cast .. the Daniels's friend from improve class was just hilarious at the "stand off" .. the gang and Officer Luis Navarro my god the made the episode just perfect.
This episode should be an indication to the writers that each season we need at least one/two whole episodes just about Dan.
Plan B (2021)
A fun road trip to watch but at times it felt a little average and repetitive ...
The movie was nice .. had more than few giggling moments .. and It had a lot of potintials, but at the end it kinda did seem unauthentic and the ideas were a bit repetitive..
The plot looked fresh for me, the script had some light average comedy , it all looked very organized and flowing smoothly, but again it felt like "for some scenes" like a deja vu, or derived in a way from similar movies.. but still I wouldn't go far to saying I didn't have fun watching it.. The directing and camera work and montage was good, didn't seem very TV movie which I commend "at these times".
The cast was good probably the first big gig for Kuhoo Verma and did a nice due with Victoria Moroles (Hayden from Teen Wolf :D).
Overall, the movie was a good watch , some might not consider it as a strong comedy, but I think it was somewhat fairly enjoyable.
The Cleaning Lady (2018)
A little girl's sad and awful story that turned into an awful movie ..
So the first mistake I did was that I trusted the review of the 8s and 9s in here,, my second mistake is not watching the trailer .. the movie is just not good,, By the first 20 minutes, I kinda wanted the movie to just end.
The script is all over the place, just disconnected. The directing wanted to save face but the editing and montage was not good at all,, it looked like a lifetime movie but instead of Eric Roberts as the weird doctor we got "the cleaning lady" :D
I do understand that this story is a sad one, that unbelievably still happens to some girls ... but the movie fails tragically to present a good image or even deliver the Horror/Thriller genre I have expected.
I don't think I need to elaborate more and talk about the dull emotionless acting by the cast ... Take my word for it and don't waste 90 minutes of you time .. I mean go have a memorable fight with the family I guarantee it'd be much better than this. :D.
Drunk Bus (2020)
A very Good watch, though not as great as all the 10's said ...
Light comedy set in a dark loop, and some how you need to break out of it.
The movie script was good, purposeful I would say, but it did had a yawn moments in times ,, It did score the genre of comedy/drama steadily, the screenplay is very connected and easily comprehensible and the plot and even the ending was satisfying for me.
The cast was very good, from Charlie Tahan to Pineapple (which by the way is his actual name :D) ,, but speaking of the cast I didn't like Will Forte being just behind the radio and popping up right at the end !! Come on !! He would have made and extra sprinkle on the comedy.
The movie is recommended especially for those who would love to watch a nice story about doing something stupid at least once in a life time :)
Wrath of Man (2021)
Good action thriller with a mysterious plot ,, that could've been even a better 3 episodes mini series ..
I absolutely loved it .. probably the best of Jason Statham's in the last say 10 years !! Maybe I'm saying it could have been a better mini series because we've been spending a lot of time on TV lately,, but being one of the last MGM projects before giving the keys to Amazon, who knows what could happen :D
The plot is very good,, splitting the movie in chapters moving back and forth in timeline and staying till the last minutes before showing all the cards.. the script looked fine even for a two hours movie it did not seem long or dull at all.. the directing style of Guy Ritchie is showing with the mysterious shots that carefully reveals the plot bit by bit.
The cast was well.. need I say more !! Jason Statham is one of the Expendables .. I love his serious acting wouldn't mind a little "Crank" humor but nevertheless he was amazing being "the boss".. Holt McCallany and the others were also good, Scott Eastwood character was weird , though I wanted to see more of Josh Hartnett ..
Anyway, no need to write more and more, The movie is very recommended. Go watch it now.
The Unholy (2021)
A couple of scares in a weak plot ,, and that's that
And again, the few jumpy scares we saw in the trailer spread around the 90 minutes... The plot is just weak, and it takes like an hour to just get to the point .. and that was their mistake ,, we already knew that it is an evil soul so I think it kinda missed the movie up a bit.
The cast was okay,, love "Negan" :D lol, Jeffrey Dean Morgan did a good job. And Cricket Brown was not perfect but just fine ..
For me the whole thing just looked like a TV movie , and I wouldn't say it is a 100% recommended ... and If you love watching Horror/Thrill genre, this might not be something you'd like to waste your time on .. but for me definitely, I respectfully wouldn't wanna watch this again.
Son (2021)
Very good script, could've been a bit quicker and ...
At first I kinda felt it was going a bit slow ,, but it picked up in the middle and I could feel the mystery and thill pile up and as a plus it had quite the unpredictable ending , so overall you can actually say it was a very good watch.
The cast was great,, even if "at times" there was a bit coldness but still they were good .. from the young Jack Black look alike :D Emile Hirsch, which was good but sometimes awfully calm, to Andi Matichak, which I liked very much in here.. the kid though was just okay...I think needed a bit more weirdness in his act.
The script was good ,, directing was fine and maybe needed just a little speed up ,, but my problem , well my only problem was with the cinematography !! I mean it is a movie about a cult and the devil , so they should have been some more money spent in that department, I do believe that devil looked ridiculous ..
Anywy, the movie is recommended ,, so watch it.
You Belong to Me (2021)
A slow first 40-50 minutes before things start to thrill up a bit ..
So yep .. bad reviews .. but I get the fact the screenplay might look at first like a big mess and Casey Affleck playing that role again .. but .. they movie had a good plot and a little unpredictability right till the last few minutes.
The cast was good ,, love Casey, though Sam Claflin was really good , maybe he needed more creative lines but his physical interaction was spot on.
The script as some have mentioned was a bit loose at the beginning and bit confusing but when things start to unravel at the last third of the movie, I think I had a bit of satisfaction , and I was like "It wasn't that bad".
Recommended, I mean if you have nothing else to watch, why not , you might enjoy watching the end.
French Exit (2020)
Mediocre movie that had an extra unnecessary 60 minutes
To sum it up ... It was just slow. Couldn't really find the "Comedy" or the "Drama" .. just very different genre of its own.
The cast was okay ,, I mean Michelle Pfeiffer was great and Lucas Hedges was really good .. but the script itself was slow and disconnected and more importantly very long .. It do believe if it was instead of 2 hours they re-edited and re montage it , it would have looked a bit more alive , and maybe we would have actually felt the comedy or some intense drama .. but it wasn't so we didn't.
I give it 5 stars for the cast, but it gets 1 for the writing and directing ... Now is it recommended !! I don't think anyone would like to sit 120 minutes of this .. so here I give you a heads up.
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Very thrilling ... and Unpredictable ..
So I saw a lot of reviews citing the book and how this was bad comparing to it .. I have not read the book ,, so I can tell you the movie was actually thrilling and intense at some point , where you couldn't guess what's real up until the end.
The whole cast was just great ,, from Amy to Gary Oldman, Julianne Moore, Wyatt Russell and Fred Hechinger .. they all were very engaging and so real with their roles.
The story check all the boxes of its genre from the intense drama to the thrilling crime,, the script writing was so connected and the directing and camera movement were very vigorous.
Very recommended .. "especially for those who don't even know there was a book about it" :D :D.
The Killing of Two Lovers (2020)
Not what the trailer advertise ... like at all
So when I wathed the trailer ,, It kinda showed a thrilling Drama and the title and also the poster they all gave this implication .. but it was very dull scenario ,, the scene in the trailer is literally the first two minutes of the movie then it goes back and forth into somewhat meaningless screenplay..
The cast was meh ,, Clayne Crawford shows pure tension and that would have been phenomenal if the plot went a different way.
Again, the script was all over the place and even the directing was very slow and pointless at some parts. Robert Machoian did not do a good job in both.
Not really recommended ,, and to be honest for me, I couldn't sit a whole 90 minutes of this .. so I kept on fast-forwarding up until the end.
The Paper Tigers (2020)
Thoroughly very entertaining ...
So to be quite honest, I just watched the movie without any search, say I took a very wild chance in it ... but it did pay out.
I don't know or remember that I have seen the actors before in anything,, but they were just really good , the story itself was complete and organized ,, and the script looked very well written .. I wouldn't put it in the very hard core Comedy genre , but it was a lighthearted one ,, as for the action , for me it kinda delivered and as I said I was very drawn to to the sequence of events.
Very recommended , watch it with the fam and enjoy .
Together Together (2021)
A line somewhere goes like "I love you in a boring way", well, it was a bit boring
The movie trailer was a bit promising ,, and I love that usual nervous comedy of Ed Helms .. but god the movie was just slow ..
The storyline was a bit boring ,, not much to look for , I mean even lacked a good plot ,, It was just flat all the way ,, the script seemed like just a bunch of cut out scenes that are supposed to look like a grey comedy but it didn't.
The casting was okay, as I said. I love Ed Helms, Patti Harrison was okay ,, but again didn't feel like they were all enthusiastic about the whole project. Nikole Beckwith tried to do this alone and unlike "Matt" she couldn't .
I think it's a family movie more than it is a comedy ,, much more, It is sweet but again slow .. so as for recommendation , watch it if you literally have nothing else to watch.
Mainstream (2020)
The movie supposedly had a message but it delivers it in a dull cliché
So first I'll start with the cast,, Andrew Garfield acting was great, and the last scene was just wicked good .. Maya Hawke role was okay ,, Nat Wolff. Just got his everyday role, loving the girl - doesn't get the girl-then he gets the girl .. but it was a good casting overall.
The bad thing now is the storyline, as some has mentioned it does have a lot of clichés ,, Like the fist 10 minutes I was like things are going this way .. very expected ... It tries to draw you back but again it just felt predictable.
I do get it tries to send a message ,, a purposeful one I must say. But you also want to watch a movie with good writing /directing in which Gia Coppola was not successful.
Is the movie watchable ? Yes it is .. Is it enjoyable ? I'd say 5/10 .. now is it recommendable ? 6/10 for the message an all.
Your Honor: Part Ten (2021)
What goes around comes around,, but apparently the worst of them sometimes gets a pass!!!
First of all ,, I do hope showtime consider a "limited" second season ,, because the story for some of us is just incomplete.
We always seek justice in shows like these and the loose ends doesn't usually get digested well by the viewers.. in here somewhat they evened some odds and I don't have a problem with that .. but they let some get away.
I don't wanna spoil the finale, so I'll get to the season review.
The plot was amazing, based on a previous show, but they made it all looked fresh and just new,, the writing was very good, quick dialog and the events and trials went in a rapid intense drama.. and the ending even-though not that satisfying for a "limited mini series", still was a good one.. (rooting for another 10 or even 6 episodes).
The cast, I mean do I really need to !! Bryan Cranston was phenomenal playing his nervy intense scared for his kid character .. and the last scene shows that with a lot of shocking and heartbreaking image. Michael Stuhlbarg made a very good due with Cranston ... and the kid Eugene (Benjamin Flores Jr.) was really good .. his facial expressions were just great.
Anyhow,, thanks to the guys who re-produced this show and made it possible for us to see this story ... and I know it will be a memorable show for many of us.
Finally, Bryan Cranston is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in the Golden Globes,, I think his gonna do well next March :) 🤞
How to Get Away with Murder: Stay (2020)
Well at the end, They all got away with murder, kinda ;)
I think at this point we're way too used to having an explosive shocking finales and mid seasons ,, but this series finale was just special, emotional and filled with conclusions ..
Some of these conclusions were a bit sad and unpredictable ,, but just satisfying at the end and gives me "a 6 years hardcore fan" finally a moment of relief that the story of Annalise and "most" of the class gang lived happy till their last moments.
The episode of course started with a classic HTGAWM flash forward and ended up with the unexplained return of "Wes" or you'll see for yourself who's he really is .. anyway the production was perfection and the story was as strong as ever which for me made the episode on of the best series finales of my life time.
I just can't believe we're paying a farewell to Annalise and her class but this is how we all kinda wished she'll go... so thanks for everyone who made this series possible and adios.
The Two Popes (2019)
As peculiar as it might sound, this movie is totally not about religion and that is why it's gotten the reaction it has.
From the title alone you'd think this is about religion or some kinda propaganda to re-polish the Vatican but it is just not ... It is a two hours of someones life and how change even on the most strict situations can bring progress.
Anthony McCarten wrot an amazing flawless script, I mean in the last five years you'll see his name on Theory of Everything, Darkest Hour, Bohemian Rhapsody and then he brought us this... the directing and visuals ,, and more importantly the beauty of multi sets from Italy to Argentina were all on point.
Now to the cast ... My goodness the duo of Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce was unbelievable !! the dialogue went like , how can they do this !! you can absolutely sense the level of acting between these two ... It was like a dance ,by the way there was a scene right at the end where they both try to dance tango 😂
Anyway ,, some people will get political and might not like it and probably call it a Hollywood propaganda ,, but it mostly got high review for one reason and one reason only,, because it is a heartwarming story executed brilliantly.
The Aeronauts (2019)
I don't know about the historical correctness of this, and FYI this is not a biography,, so the movie was really enjoyable ..
I see a lot of 1 star reviewers here so bothered about the historical correctness and which they probably have the right to be ... but FOR ME ... I couldn't care less who flew the balloon, if it was a man, a woman or a damn dog ,, I don't see why it matters when judging an " Action, Adventure" movie,, This is not a biography .. so the movie is thrilling and emotional ,
The script was quick and connected ,, no holes of dullness ,, each and every scene matters,, putting flashbacks here and there was nice .. The cast was genius ... Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne duo was spot on ,, didn't get cheap romantic like many other movies of the same genre.
For a young director, Tom Harper did an amazing job here,, the visual effects , I can't even imagine .. they were perfected to the point were you actually start to feel the ups and downs of the gas balloon with them.
So final say,, I suggest you watch the movie like you don't know anything about the history and all,, just watch it like you watch Jumanji minus of course the comedy 😂 and you will enjoy it like I did.
Code 8 (2019)
Not perfect, but enjoyable
First I gotta say , After almost 8 years, It is kinda hard looking at Stephen Amell as anything but Arrow :D :D I don't know ,, even his role here you can see The Arrow's personality is all over him.
So the plot of the movie is fresh and genuine, connected at most of the time and easily followable ,, I wouldn't say it is like the best thing there is on the big screen, but as I said it is enjoyable... and the VFX were simple but precise and good.
The cast were mostly good, love Stephen and Robbie Amell, they always engage with their roles to the fullest and end up giving their absolute best.
The movie is good, Recommended.
Togo (2019)
A story of Togo the brave presented by the timeless Willem Dafoe.
"Togo, the most heroic animal of all time." - Time Magazine 2011 .
I mean that title alone should just make you wanna watch the story instantly ..
Willem Dafoe did an amazing job and the idea of this story being true is just beyond amazing.
The setting and the cinematography were professionally done, and Ericson Core has done a commendable job on the directing.
Watch it now.
The Addams Family (2019)
It is just okay ,, and that's that.
I was really rooting for this movie as a fan of the movies back in 1991 and the sequal in 1993, the Christina Ricci ones ,, so I thought this would be a "Hotel Transylvania" level representation of the story ,, but it sadly was not.
The script was not funny, the Addams family looked so different in the sense of dark comedy .. the story was not enough ,, even that evil lady was not that noticeable enough to pump up the thrill and surprising element ... I mean there was that scene of Wednesday in the school ,, I wished they have showed us more of that ..
Anyway,, It is a children's movie as one of the reviewers said .. so don't have high expectation.
