Head of State (2003)
Head Of State is more science fiction than comedy
Comedies must have some form of realism and this movie has none. There are some funny parts supplied by Chris Rock, Bernie Mac and Lynn Whitfield(playing Debra Lassiter), but other than a few funnies, this movie is the classic old white people doing hip hop, and this has bad writing.
Without a Trace (2002)
TV's turned on to ER will be gone "Without A Trace"
This show is the best new show of the year and possibly one of the best on telivision. This show keeps you guessing, and has excellent writing. The characters are believable, and they feature all kinds of new episodes, unlike CSI which has lots of similar ones. Anthony LaPalgia is great at his role, and Poppy Montgomery is good at the attractive young blonde she plays. This Cop show is intresting and is the best show on its timeslot. I think it is better than CSI and ER. This is one show that should be on for a long time. CBS did a good job.
Bringing Down the House (2003)
Latifah Brings Down House and Laughs
This movie may not be Jerry Lewis style clean cut humor, but it is funny and that is all that matters. Charlene (QUEEN Latifah) tries to save Steve Martin's character from giving up on his seperated wife. I thought this had several funny parts including the maid scene. All the funny parts are NOT in the trailer, and the one liners deliver knockout blows. I loved this movie, who cares about racial stereotypes, they are funny!
Where the Truth Lies (1999)
Not Quite John Grisham but good enough.
I thought this movie would be like the average TV Movie, but a good performance by Regina King, and the uniqueness of having a deaf star character put it over the top. Ms. Matlin plays (Dana Lacy) a deaf woman and campaign leader who is put on trial for the murder of her employer, Senatorial Candidate Sander Morgan. Regina King plays Ronnie, her (Female Johnny Cochran) lawyer who has never lost a case. This film has a Memphis setting, so it is comparable to John Grisham books. This movie has a surprise twist ending, and it kept me interested until the final second. I would give this movie a B+.It is not as good as Grisham, but good enough.
