Devil in Ohio (2022)

Go in with low expectations, and you'll be good
15 September 2022
After checking the rating, I was I initially turned off by it (anything under 6 on IMDB is questionable) and just skipped over the show. After a night of not being sure what to watch, I thought I would give it a go. Again, with the low rating, my expectations were rather low as well. It surprisingly entertained me and kept me interested. I personally like that they showed less of the actual cult, as those scenes were the worst in my own opinion, but I could see how going into the show based on the synopsis alone would set your hopes high. Go in with an expectation that matches the rating, and you'll be pleasantly surprised and have you a decent show to get through.

Wibbly Wobbly Times Wimey Stuff
11 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So the people that think you need to be smart to understand it are in fact dumb. The people that think it's "artsy farts"...well ya...they have a point, but most movies are considered art anyways. Really you just need to be more familiar with Kaufman to possibly get it, which he actually thinks "every interpretation is right", so if you're just thinking "wtf did this guy take?" Or "wtf did I just take?" Then according to the mastermind himself, you are correct!

However, I am in fact a fan of Kaufman's films and even I needed assistance on this one so I had to trek into some interviews on the matter. Turns out I wasn't too terribly far off, but reading up on it really helped. So I got the gist early on that "Lucy/Lucia/Ames" wasn't real and that the janitor was Jake. Truthfully that's as far as I got, but it sure was a heck of a ride! Now for more details from the K-Man (and pulling from John Malcovich) the story takes place in Jake's head. It's why his parents were aging in all directions and everything was always changing, because his imagination was as well. He would play out different timelines in which she would fit in his life, different personalities she could have, and even different occupations. Now the kicker is that allll of these are taken from books/media. The big giveaway is when the janitor is watching that film, in which later it's exactly how Jake meets his "girlfriend", with at one point she even turned into the actress from the film to really send that message. Now at the end he comes to the conclusion that there's no way he would ever have a girlfriend (not even a made up one) thus him dying alone with his animated pig.

It's a trip, but a good one if you're up for the ride.

I'll just stick to FaceOff
26 August 2020
So FaceOff is my jam, but this show seemed like a decent filler until my first choice picks back up, but holy cow it makes no sense. How somebody can be in the bottom two FOUR TIMES IN A ROW and constantly beat out incredibly talented artists that have actually won several challenges (while always dodging the bottom) is beyond me. Then they say that for the semi-finals they look at their entire portfolio from the competition, but still keep the one with the worst one?? I can't even say that it's my own personal opinion because it's just the judges that put her in the bottom for half the season to begin with. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Scoob! (2020)

To each their own

Warning: Spoilers
I've always been a fan of the Scooby Doo series. From the OG, to A Pup Named Scooby Doo, to even the newer(ish) animated series with my man Matthew Lillard. No, it doesn't necessarily keep the "charm" that other have, but once you get introduced to the son of Blue Falcon, and not the Blue Falcon himself, you can kinda gather that this will be a different feel. I did thoroughly enjoy how it brought in the old Hannah Barbera characters, almost making it its own universe again and not necessarily a "Scooby Doo" movie. (Not to mention the intro bringing back some major feels from my childhood) My 2 year old loved it, and anything that can keep my hyperactive child still for any length of time is a winner in my book. It's another way to introduce a younger generation to the characters, just as it has been doing the past 50 years. So if you'd kiddos like it, then mission accomplished.

Hallmark Golden Era
6 December 2019
I agree with a previous poster about Hallmark being at the top of their game in the 2013 season (I mean, A Very Merry Mixup is definitely entertaining). While I'm always a fan of Hallmark Christmas movies, this one is for sure one of my favorites. The lead actress has a fun personality to where it makes sense that A-Team Ben Stiller would fall for her so quickly. For the whimsy of the Hallmark franchise, this one carries a bit or realism in the characters while maintaining its magic. I could only give it an 8 though because tickle fights make me incredibly uncomfortable.

It's a Beautiful Film
18 November 2019
To state the obvious, nobody (not even Tom Hanks) can fill the shoes of Mister Rogers, and as other have stated, it takes a bit for my mind to make that switch. Especially since I have a two year old son, so we watch Mister Rogers Neighborhood on the daily, making it even more glaringly obvious of how different Tom Hanks acts and looks, he does great though considering the unique role he's set to fill. I do highly recommend the documentary and the biography "The Good Neighbor" for those more interested in the life of Mister Rogers, but this film is important in showing just how impactful this man was (and how his legacy still is). He was an original man with original perspectives and this movie shows the transition from "he's just too good to be true" to "he REALLY was this good, and really was this true". People don't like it because it wasn't what they expect, but maybe just look at it how Mister Rogers would ;)

The Little Mermaid Live! (2019 TV Movie)

Was good in theory
8 November 2019
I am such a fan of the original animated film, so viewers will always be more critical (including myself) when watching these Live! Action remakes every year. That being said, I was impressed with the performances from the live actors. How Auli'i was able to sing like while being harnessed in the air?? It was good, for sure. I agree though that switching between the animated and live action wasn't quite as cohesive as they had hoped. Especially because I'm pretty sure they cut part of the animated portion just to speed up to another live action. So although the casting was awesome, it's hard enough to compare to the original, but especially when they're performing along side it giving you no choice but to compare.

Single Parents (2018–2020)

A bit on the fence
2 November 2019
When I first started watching, I thought it was a decent show. Not anything I made time to be sure I watch it, but it was good to have on when I couldn't find anything else. Everybody is right though about how exaggerated the characters. Where most tv shows (even sitcoms) start off with one dimensional characters that grow and change through their development, this show manages to exaggerate their one sided personalities even more as it progresses and that's where it's starting to lose me. Even the kids...not exactly accurate to the children I've encountered in my lifetime, but again, it's exaggerated. It's almost like a live action Rugrats as told from the kid's perspective in that they just think they're as grownup as they're portrayed and their parents are that helpless. As a single parent though, there are some moments that hit the nail on the head, but those are fleeting, but man I sure wish I had as much free time as they do on that show. At least I have enough to write this splendid review. Like I said though, it's good background noise, lighthearted, and there's no fear of missing something important.

Joker (I) (2019)

Not Your Classic Joker
13 October 2019
The title of my review sounds negative, but the stars will show otherwise. This movie is a stand-alone film, and this joker will not be making an appearance in any other film, it's just simply an origin story. Aside from The Killing Joke, very little is said of the joker's origins in the comic world, so this movie was able to take the stand up comedian + mental breakdown (albeit, a slow one is this case) and begin to show how the joker became The Joker. Best thing about this character? He's always been vague, so in all the renditions of the Joker they're all specific to the person portraying them. Where all The Batman's watch other Batmen and try to play as closely to that as you can, all the actors that play the Joker BECOME the Joker, making them each so unique. It really is what began the idea that the Joker isnt always the same person, but an idea and a figure that keeps inspiring new ones. ***Back to my review of the actual movie*** Don't go in expecting Nicholson or Ledger (but just be glad it isn't Leto's version), but it's beautifully done. It's not straight out of that comics because they wanted it too feel real, and it did just that. Why do you think people are becoming worried of the negative impacts it may have on some viewers? Because mental health is a real thing, and where the Joker May be an extreme consequence of that, it's still an issue that becomes more prevalent everyday. It blurs the lines on whether Joker is a hero or a villain because it's an ORIGIN story. He spends the movie trying to figure out who he is, and it's at the end that he shows it, and that portrayal is spot on. Joker spends his days reminding Batman of how similar they are, and that similarity really resonates with you in this film. I'm just going to stop now because surely nobody will read my review all the way through after all the rabbit trailing thing I did.

The Politician (2019–2020)

To each their own
2 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Didn't even finish the first episode, so who knows, maybe it gets better. I actually had high hopes for it and that potentially could've been my problem, but once Jessica Lange and the daughter of Lea Thompson started acting (almost exactly) like Patricia Arquette and Joey King's portrayals in The Act, I just couldn't watch it anymore. Very glad too because I soon found out from over reviews that the daughter is in fact faking her cancer, and that's just way too much on the head with that true crime story. Not sure if that was their intention with those characters or if Ryan Murphy fell asleep watching "Mommy Dead and Dearest" and woke up thinking he came up with that storyline on his own, but there are other directions he could've gone with that. The whole thing just seemed bizarre and a bit of a mess, almost like a mashup of all his successful shows. I'm still a fan of his, and will watch AHS to the end and Glee on a loop, but this one started weak in comparison and just missed the mark for me.

Thank goodness for Billy Zane
29 September 2019
You have movies that are so bad that they manage a cult following, and then those that are so bad that Netflix won't even touch it. This one falls in the latter category. I only even gave it 3 stars because 1) You have to put at least one star 2) it held my toddler's attention during the singing portion 3) Billy Zane getting on the titanic in the end was the saving grace.

Surprisingly awesome
1 January 2019
Had no idea what this show was about, read no reviews, no nothing, just popped up on my Netflix so thought I'd give it go! So glad I did, because I have been looking for a good show to binge, and this was it! Every episode keeps you wanting more, and I had gotten my friends hooked as well. Clearly it's not for everybody, but with a rating at 8.2 on IMDB of all places, definitely worth a shot!
