Left Behind is a great name for these series of films. They should be left behind, in the darkest most inaccessible place on earth. If you pick up a movie at the rental store with the words Kirk Cameron and Left Behind you are about to waist 1 1/2 + hours of your time on a movie that is so boring being in traction with a broken leg is far more exciting and a we bit less painful. I am not sure if the producers were trying to camouflage these films as real drama but what they got was a dramatized religious Sunday school movie. The films are preaching the word of god and trying to put those words in a dialog of a normal dramatic film. What they ended up with was bad acting and an even worse script. Is it bad Directing or a combination of many things? Why was the acting so bad in so many scenes? I seen many of these actors in other films have great or at least above average performances. I actually chose to watch the first Left Behind film from beginning to end and because of a holly roller relative I was forced to watch most of the second and third movies. It's obvious that Kirk Cameron is a very religious person and that's great but if he is going to push his religious beliefs on people through the films he is involved with then those films should be advertised as religious films and not something else.
Hollyweird is producing way to many remakes of movies that the originals were lousy movies to begin with. If you look at the 1979 Amityville Horror with James Brolin and Margot Kidder it appeared to be a semi low budget film and aside from a few scenes from Brolin the acting was mediocre at best. The acting in the 2005 Amityville release with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George was about as Boring as the first release. The only reason they made this movie is the Great old American Dollar. I am not sure what the budget was on the 1979 release but it made 86 million in ticket sales and the 2005 release made 64 million in ticket sales alone with probably another 30 million in DVD rentals.
I am unfortunately of that age group that has seen most of the original movies and for the most part the regurgitated remakes being milled out are really crappy movies. I was really looking forward to the new release of War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise and even though it had some really great scenes in it the 1953 release was comparatively an overall better movie. With a 130 million budget the 2005 release could have bent the plot around a bit and ended up with a much better movie.

I've seen the original 1953 version of W.O.T.W. several times and for it's time it was a top notch SCI-FI movie. Even though this new release has some real awesome F/X, there were far too many scenes that at best were mediocre. In a lot of scenes the main characters had too much of that "Human Endeavor" B.S. going on and not nearly enough interaction with the foe's of the film. I think if the movie would have had more short battle and struggling scenes and less lets go hide stuff the movie would have ended for me with a smile and not a yawn. There has been a whole lot of advertising for this film but I think after the second weekend word of mouth will cause this movie to fizzle out.
