Chapaak- Please read the full review, This is an important film, Important because this is perhaps the first Hindi mainstream film which actually talks about the Acid attacks and deals with the harsh realities of Acid attack survivors.
As I said I love Deepika and I had to watch this film, but even a very intricate and nuanced performance by Deepika could not lift the film. The film is flat, the screenwriting and direction is average. Meghna Gulzar totally fails to explore the sub plots, Characters and their motivation. The film is very linear but who says linear storytelling can't be comprehensive. ( in this case it wasn't)
Film leaves you unsatisfied. Why Vikrant Massey's character is always angry? Why Bashir Khan's bhabhi was involved in the crime? Why Malti always implodes and never explodes with emotion ?
Still the film manages to tell you about the agony and excruciatingly difficult lives of survivors. It makes a commentary on the toxic masculinity and super fragile male ego.
Honestly the film disappoints in the aspect of filmmaking. But the nobility of the topic is enough to watch the film.
You should definitely watch this film just to educate yourself and your family. Go with your brothers and fathers and boyfriends and husbands.
Again I'll say it's an important film. #Chapaak
