Absolutely one of the worst movies I've ever seen! Don't believe these folks that are telling you that it's stylized; that it is a triumph; that it is a great movie. The book was great. The movie is ridiculously bad, and the problem is the point of view. The trailer for the movie does not show much of the POV, but instead used the few scenes that were not from Ellwood or Turner's point of view. If I had seen that tripe in the trailer, I would never have wasted time and money trying to watch the horrible movie. If a small portion of it had been shot from the first person angle, as though you were viewing it through the character's eyes, it might have been doable or viewable. But c'mon - the entire movie? This is one of the first movies that I did not, could not finish watching. I tried very hard, but that point of view through Ellwood's eyes or through the eyes of Turner gets very old, very fast. It got old in the first few minutes. Wait till it comes out on HBO. Don't waste your money.
I watched this movie because my granddaughters loved it so much. I wanted to see what was so fantastic about it and now I know. Live action movies do not even come close to the beauty of the story. It's a tale of survival, kindness, tolerance, and humanity, although humans do not play a great part in it. I am just amazed that it was all in a movie, a children's movie. The creatures all learned to help each other, and be best friends to each other. It is a movie that I will buy because I don't want it to ever disappear from my rotation of films, and I will always make certain to have it so that when my granddaughters come to visit me, we can all watch it together. That is something that we love to do, and although they are not with me all the time, a movie like this brings us together. I absolutely love this movie!
Six Triple Eight is, without a doubt, one of the best movies I've seen in the last few years. Beautifully acted by every single one of these ladies, this movie is Oscar-worthy. The other thing that was thrilling about it was the way that it made me feel - proud to be an African American woman. It is, in my opinion, the best endeavor by Tyler Perry in his entire, incomparable movie career. It is also a watershed moment in the career of Kerry Washington. She is indomitable in this movie, and it is one of the best performances I've seen her give. As I said, all of the other actors in this movie deserve to be singled out one-by-one by virtue of the outstanding performances that they give. I will watch this movie again, hopefully in the company of my friends and family who also appreciate a great, true story with African Americans actors, a rare commodity. Thank you Mr. Perry!
