Kalki 2898-AD (2024)
A visual treat with a strong story & characters
A unique genre, a well written story (script) & strong characters give this movie a strong start. The extravagant visuals & very detailed crisp VFX gives the audience much needed thrill.
However, one cannot forgo the resemblance of some VFX shots have with movies like Dune, Star-wars, mad max, black panther & transformers...Although huge kudos to the team for producing a movie which is equivalent to the scale of above mentioned movies.
Pros :
1. Time taken to build characters & explain world
2. Stunts, crisp bright visuals
3. Screenplay, Direction
4. Comedy
Cons :
1. Music, background score is unique but doesn't give the much needed grandeur to the visuals and scenes, repeated use of same score, abruptly high background score during stunts
2. Editing especially first half.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024)
Title has a set a wrong expectation
It's a comedy not for everyone. It's as dry as my review and only select few intellectual audience would find it funny if any. Deadpan Jokes require really great casting who are able to deliver those jokes and drama in an engaging way, however the show falls flat in that regards.
I wonder why is it called Mr & Mrs smith ? It set a really wrong expectation for me. There was no mystery, there was no tease, there was no chemistry and absolutely no cheesy cringe moments between the characters. It's good and bad at the same time.
Real waste of talent, development & budgets. Lastly watch it if you have nothing else to watch.
The Batman (2022)
Mediocre Plot with great cast
What's good about the movie
1. Cinematography
2. Theme
3. Screenplay
4. Cast performance except Robert Pattinson
5. Stunts & fights choreography
What's bad about the movie
1. Plot
2. Editing, very obvious cut scenes
3. Dialogues
4. Robert Pattinson reminded a lot of his " twilight days " (staring a lot and not saying a lot)
5. Background score, very monotonous.
Cinematography stands out until the end. There are absolutely some scenes which are poster worthy scenes and also reminds a lot of Batman was portrayed in comics. Saying that, Batman feels very much a like guy next door on a Halloween day. The character is as grounded as it can get. Maybe it's a build up to something great in future parts.
And finally the movie itself is a one time watch, Batman playing a detective is very much reminds me of the comics. Although the idea is brilliant, the execution wasn't really that great. Very obvious plot holes and forced scenes.
In age where entertainment has reached every corner of the world and where we are living in a society highly addicted to content, it's important to remember that average audience perception of movies had only improved. There are too many Batman movies out there and also too many superhero movies and TV series. It's very easy for people to compare and judge. Although it's difficult to satisfy the needs of everyone, it's important to
Understand the need of having an intelligent script.
What bothered me the most is editing. It was very obvious, if it's obvious then it's bad editing. Too many cut scenes.
Eternals (2021)
Disappointing storyline
Movie tried way too hard to give Eternals a back story which according me was their best attempt at it but came really short of the impact it could have created if it was centered around each character rather than the group.
Definitely has got some lame story points but hey it's a superhero movie so brains and questions not allowed.
I definitely liked the direction and also a bit of screenplay but story writers were really bad. Acting of the Actors/actresses were much to the point, no one was a disappointment.
CGI was good like any other marvel movie, not outstanding but good. Although this movie would have been better without CGI.
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
It was well made Reunion episode
Definitely worth watching it, it takes you back the memory lane and it's worth it, if you happen to like the show. Emotional, funny and absolutely brilliantly produced.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Watch it if your a fan of heavy CGI slow mo action sequences
Let's start by confirming the fact that the Movie is way better than the old one or way be i enjoyed this movie better because the old one sucked big time. This movie particularly has character establishment which I thoroughly liked, it has sensible small emotions and heavy CGI fights, which is something you can expect when you're watching a movie directed by Snyder. The movie still has plot holes and could have been a little shorter but it was Snyder all along. Watch it if you enjoy Snyder style movie making with dark color scheme and various slow motion shots at unwanted times. Overall I liked it, its a pandemic movie, there are not many action movies out there and this one definitely feeds your hunger for one. Also I personally feel this movie should have been re-released in theaters and WB would have made profits. The only downside is cinematography. It's dark and feels like movie has been shot in the Night most of the Time. Lighting was badly used by cinematographer. The two characters cyborg and Batman often had funny way of walking the movie, they both were my least favorite characters in this movie. I don't know if they were asked to perform their scenes in certain way or they had to perform that way because of their uncomfortable costumes.
Space Force (2020)
It's Trashy but it's interesting in a weird way.
Something to watch while cooking or doing household chores.
Defending Jacob (2020)
Absolutely worth watching, brilliant portrayal of characters by the cast
The series has been well adapted and well cast. To my surprise the actors have done an amazing job in portraying the emotions of the character and you get involved when you watch the series. Must watch.
The Last Dance (2020)
The documentary is nothing new nor well explored
Needles to say, the documentary starts well and gives a glimpse of the key players of the Chicago bulls team. It's interesting to start with but it fails to capture the momentum it needed for a documentary. At times, the documentary completely portrays and talk about just one player and how he has shaped the team to win the games. It completely fails to talk about the team dynamics, the real issues, the off the game friends from the team and how their families and relationship in real life helped them be the sportsmen they wanted to be. It highly relies on cringe worthy matches moments but doesn't really speak about those matches that were lost. It's basically comes as a rally cry behind one player and his antics with the team. It certainly does feel like it's been sponsored by the team or the players involved in the documentary. I personally feel that the documentaries point view had been biased catering to the needs of one player and one player alone. By the end of documentary every statement made by the players and journalist involved in documentary are usually praises and often can come across some movie dialogues.
The making isn't great either. The story telling and screenplay at times looks haphazard and the filler content in certain episodes is way too obvious as it doesn't really fit with the story telling. Can watch it once if your a fan of this particular team.
6 Underground (2019)
If you're into Michael Bay Movies, one would enjoy this one
To all those who complain about editing or scene cuts or plot. All those complains are absolutely true but nevertheless it doesn't matter if you wanna enjoy a pure action flick. The plot line isn't new, the character development isn't mature but the set up and movie action looks absolutely fantastic. It's a movie where you leave your brains out before you watch it. It's a Michael bay movie. There's nothing more to be said.
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Watch it, only if you enjoy CGI work
I have enjoyed the transformer series from the beginning and this is one of those movie I waited so eagerly to watch. But it was a disappointment. I don't know why but I felt the movie had nothing new to offer. Few things I thought were awful: 1. Same old way of directing, same camera shots, even though I enjoy these shots a lot, this time they seem very vague. I don't know if it was the director or cinematographer. 2. Bad story line, very depressing screenplay and most importantly terrible editing. 3. I need to emphasize on editing because it seemed like a patch work. 4. MOST IMPORTANTLY NOTHING NEW TO BE OFFERED BY THE MOVIE. If they had a movie formula (Big fights, slow motion shots, huge explosions, a lot of CGI work, more action, few emotional dialogues ) for international market, this movie fits in well.
Bãhubali: The Beginning (2015)
An appreciable attempt
Firstly, I feel the whole team which had worked to make this movie must be appreciated. I feel they have achieved a magnificent product. It was really marvelous, if you for a moment forget that Hollywood ever existed. I would say, it's a proud attempt bye ace director SS Rajamouli and I am really amused by the way he could achieve it. Now Talking about the movie, I should say it was an brave attempt as the movie budget was so much more than any Indian movie till date, but apart from that I felt movie lacked few things in particular. The making of the movie (scenes) lacked consistency. I personally felt that few scenes were exemplary while other few scenes lacked the magic. It seemed like all the scenes were not directed by the same director. Secondly, the VFX and CGI were really well used but it's the same with those effects too. Few scenes were really well developed, and few scenes were not at all up to the mark. Third point I would like to make is, the fact that few scenes lacked logic, but these days it has become a common practice to ignore logic and just enjoy the movie, but it was surprising to me as the director SS Rajamouli, is not one of those directors who would miss logic. Fourth point I would like to mention is about the acting skills portrayed by the Actors and they were really well up to the standard, but I personally felt, actress "Tamanna" could have done better. Apart from that I felt all other actors did an exemplary work. Fifth point I would like to talk about is, Story. The story is quite normal and common and lot more predictable than what I expected. The movie seemed little slow before the interval but it picked up pace after it and to put it bluntly, the movie actually starts only after the interval. Sixth point I would like to mention is the music. I personally was very disappointed by the back ground scores and songs in the movie, as they lacked the spark to make the movie viewing feel easy, instead they seemed more like some normal tunes being played. For example, a very important and particular scene in the movie which had been well filmed would lack a similarly put back ground score. The other thing which was huge disappointment I felt was, repeated using of same back ground scores more than once. It made me wonder, why different tunes were not created when they had almost three years to make a movie. I strongly feel that music director for the sequel of this movie must be changed for greater good. The abrupt ending of the movie, was also something which kind of makes one wonder, if this was the real interval scene. Anyway what I really liked about the movie was the fact that it was made and it seemed more like a welcoming sign for Tollywood (Telugu Movie Industry). This movie has already proved that people irrespective of there languages in a country like India would love to watch such a flick when picturized carefully. Overall, the courageous attempt by director SS Rajamouli must be appreciated, it was a very daring step and I think he deserves a lot of credit for this movie. I felt it lacked fee elements but I did enjoy the movie. A very Indian movie, making such a huge attempt is something which made me feel proud.
P.S: Watch it as an Indian movie without comparing it to Hollywood movies because only then you can really enjoy it, but once you start to dig deep you would find many similarities or influences from few Hollywood movies and that wouldn't really help and even though it's a biggest Indian movie, not all scenes would please you, especially VFX and CGI.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
One Crazy Movie
1.Well to be frank this is one crazy movie, I haven't seen a movie with so much craziness. 2.It seemed to be more than reality to me at one point. The taking of the movie was brilliant and the screenplay was different. 3.I wouldn't have thought anyone better than Leonardo DiCaprio for this role. He played the role brilliantly. 4.It was he who carried out the movie completely. If it was not him, the movie wouldn't have been any better. 5.The narration was not so different, it was a routine. 6.The work of cinematography can be clearly seen, it was distinct in it's way. 7. Altogether I should say the crew worked so hard to portray the reality of the character so much. 8. One should appreciate their efforts and movie was all good but few can think it was little obnoxious.
Man of Steel (2013)
It's Just Amazing !
Man of steel is masterpiece of it's own kind. The movie is a visual treat and is just amazing. 1. The Script is the backbone of the movie and it is perfectly made. 2. Screenplay is magnificent. 3. Visual effects are just mind blowing. 4. The soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer is the beauty of the movie. 5. Well I couldn't find any flaw in the movie to complain about, everything seemed to be perfectly synced. TO be specific I would say that director had taken his effort to make it look better than previous superman movies and I should say he succeeded in it. The actor and actress in the movie gave their best and like all other superhero movies, the actress is given a role worth doing. The difference between the other superhero movies and this movie is the script and the way it is being narrated and showed.
