The character sometimes talks like Sherlock, but fights like a damn Bruce Lee, shoots like freaking Rambo and has a lot of Jack Sparrow in his humoristic backbone. Absurdly nothing like what's in the books. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle must be weeping in his grave by now. If you have a contrary view, then follow up your disagreement by first reading ONE of the books. The director seems to have it confused with Batman; I would not be surprised if he actually had some sort of Sherlock-Belt along with a baseball bat. The detective role he should play in this movie is replaced by a vicious brawler breaking bones and performing dazzling acrobatic moves. It's fun, it's well edited, but it is NOT Sherlock Holmes.
It's hard for a director to achieve excellence at story telling when one gives up on focusing exclusively on one or two strong conflicts and prefers to break it down to several nucleus of conflict.
None of them are fully revealed, none of them are entirely discussed nor presented to it's roots to the audience. That's where the miracle of this movie exist: the whole, the sensation you get at the end of it, is more than cathartic. It's like completing a puzzle mentally even thou you look down at the table and see that there are missing parts.
No, the miracle is not that even thou the director is a slacker, the movie gets some meaning at the end. That kind of analysis is simplistic.
Strongly recommended.

And I doubt any other movie can take away this "award" from 2012 Ice age. I have never seen worst special effects proportionally to the stage of technological development of a given time. God damn it, we are in 2011, not in the 80's anymore.
Do not watch this movie, don't even download it for free on the internet, its would be more than a mere authorship right's crime, it would be a crime against your own brain cells.
The acting is lame, the direction is a handful of clichés and the story line is a repetition of a dozen molds we've seen before.
Stay away from this movie!
