I saw "Sienna's Choice" at the Velvet Rope Film Festival in early October. I thought Janel Tanna's performance as a cancer patient was the best I had ever seen out of a female actor at a film festival. And I typically attend three or more film festivals a year. Her performance was raw and messy. She went deep to tap into her emotions. She even learned ballet and how to walk like a wobbly cancer patient, which showed her character's physical demise. An added bonus is that I was already Facebook friends with the director, Linda Palmer Caldone, whom I got to meet at the festival, and Dre Swain, another actress, who played a doctor in the film. It was a very emotional movie for me, as the hospital scenes hit close to home as I watched my own mother be ravaged by breast cancer and the resulting chemotherapy.
