Don (2006)
Well 'DON'
In Holland the standard of youth-movies is pretty high. After movies as 'Het Paard van Sinterklaas' and 'Polleke' it isn't easy to come up with a new and original movie. And that really is the only problem with 'Don' (2006).
The movie is in one word 'expactable'. No original storyline and the typical clashes between the good and the bad kids. But is this enough to turn your back to this movie? No, it certainly isn't.
'Don' is first of all, well acted. The kids (supposed to be grade 6'ers) show themselves as complete actors. They handle the emotions and the character what comes with their parts as real individuals. Also the plot is a good example for kids who live in the more difficult neighbourhoods. It shows that it is possible to mix white and black schools.
To cut a long story short, 'Don' is a good and entertaining movie. Not only to watch for your selves, but also to show to your up-growing kids. Especially the ones who are facing the same youth problems.
Party Animalz (2004)
This Movie is so bad, I laughed my eyeballs out.
This movie is a school-example of a terrible movie, that is just so bad you can't stop laughing.
Robert and Ceasar are two guys that find themselves in the opportunity to give this big party in a huge villa. They invite the most typical kind of friends (for a comedy), and the party gets loose. This is really where the laughing begins, the humor is in such a bad shape, you just can't imagine somebody made work out of this. And I must say, after 15 minutes, I just couldn't stop rolling over the floor.
I really think I'm gonna watch this movie, over and over again. Nobody should miss this terrible movie! Chapeau!
Hundarna i Riga (1995)
Not bad, but definitely not the best Wallander flick!
It is winter, 1991. Inspector Kurt Wallander's team at the Ystad police station face a new challenge: two corpses, frozen together in a gruesome embrace, have been washed ashore on the remote Swedish coastline. The dead men were Eastern European criminals, but what looks like a gangland hit takes on a much more sinister aspect when Wallander travels across the Baltic Sea to Latvia, a nation in the throws of the massive upheaval that will lead to its independence from the Soviet Union. Wallander is thrown into an icy, alien world of police surveillance, veiled threats and lies, coming to understand what it is to live in a nation in which democracy is still a dream. Only his dogged, almost subconscious desire to see justice done will lead him to the shadowy figures he pursues.
Compared to one of the latest Wallender flicks 'Mannen som log (2003).' You can conclude that the script and acting are not so good, but still a very entertaining movie!
Costa! (2001)
Just a Summary
This serie goes on where the movie stopped, partying in Salou (Spain.)
Lots of Dutch celeb's are in this serie, sometime as mainactor (Like Sylvie Meijs and Gorgina Verbaan) and sometimes as one-timer.
Costa! is wild and simple entertainment, with no deep thoughts. (Except the 'safe-sex' morale off course.) And that is why it's so populair in the Netherlands, lot's of people watch it because it brings there vacation-feelings back....
So if you want your kids to see a serious educational program, continue zapping, but if the kid had to choose, Costa! would be shining on the telly...
Naked Jane (1995)
Just a Summary
A 20-year old woman living a life without direction in Los Angeles provides the focus of this contemporary drama. Jane is the unfocused protagonist and narrator of the story. She makes a minimal living as a typist. In her spare time she writes a novel. Jane experiences a constantly deepening depression as she copes with her father's death, a distant lover, and her new romance with an artist. She prefers to avoid confrontation, but cannot when Sam, the distant lover, returns from Europe. It's an intimate, whimsical portrait of a young disconnected woman. Also the debut-movie for young Peta Wilson, better known as "La Femme Nikita" or Mina Harker in "The league of extraordinary gentlemen,"
Naar de klote! (1996)
A nice trip....
This movie gives the viewer a nice view in the Dutch drugs-scene, 7 years ago... The movie is fresh and unique, and will leave the viewer with in trance. Negative: The fake accent of main-actress Fem van der Elsen. She is just trying too hard.
