28 Weeks Later (2007)
A cheap zombie boring movie....
I am writing this review to save you 2 precious hours of your life, this is serious, don't watch it. This movie is so bad and vulgar, it is not even funny (some horror movies are so bad they are even funny, well this is not the case... this one is ultra-bad-boring). The actors are terrible... that mix of cheap British actors with we-are-the-US-army we are going to save the world, it is just terrible. A Real Madrid t-shirt and Imogen Poots are the only two things worth to be seen. Ah! there is something else I should mention, the screenplay. The cameras don't stop moving, so if you like to watch blood, there is no way of doing to watch anything.
Her (2013)
Intelligent and pure AI
"Her" is one of those movies you can't classify, mainly because "Her" belongs to "Her". The plot of of the movie is simple, a guy who falls in love with an operating system. He lives in the near future... we will say, 10 years ahead or even less.
I am a professional programmer and I have been working with Artificial Intelligence before but the way this movie visualises AI is extremely sophisticated. "Her" talks about The feelings of an Operating System built with AI and the mixed feelings of a human being interacting with the modern world (our world) and his own needs, which are basically have somebody to love.
"Her" is presented in a really clean format. You will not see a trace of violence or anything obscene. The environment is just clean.
Joaquin Phoenix is just brilliant.
The East (2013)
A plot we have never seen before.
The east is one of those movies the just fall from the tree, and when they fall you realize it is probably on of the best movies of the year. The fact some eco-terroristts decide to fight against large evil corporations(pharma, oil, coal etc.) makes the story even more interesting. Brit Marlin does a brilliant acting, being an undercover agent, but a human one, not one of those Hollywood super-heroes-I-save-the-world-again. The rest of the actors have a brilliant acting. If you want a "human" movie where intelligence and reality clash from start to finish, this is your movie, but remember to watch it slowly, so you can get the most of it.
Red Lights (2012)
New genre
Red Lights is one of this movies where you can't expect what you expect. Some people will think about this movie as one of these cheap American Horror movies... one more... The reality is completely different. After 60 minutes watching it, you can feel beautiful touch of a Spanish director, and that means a original movie. I am a great fan of horror movies, and I am not consider myself an expert, but I have to admit I have watched almost everything. Red Lights opens a new door, bringing an intelligent plot which is not connected with horror movies.
Rodrigo Cortés has created a piece of art and Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro and Cillian Murphy have helped a lot. It is a shame not seen Sigourney Weaver from the start to finish, because she is simply magnificent. The research done behind this movie is massive, this is just not entertainment.
I hope we will be able to see more work from this excellent director in the future.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Stay away from this movie.
I have been watching horror movies since I was 6 years old. I have watched almost everything, including plenty of B series horror movies from the 80's and 90's...yeaph those kind of movies where ketchup used to play the big player in the especial effects, those ones were bad, really bad...well this is one of the worst.
It doesn't even deserves 2/10.
This movie pretends to be a comedy, but it is not funny at all. It is actually a sad movie, massively overrated! Plenty of dodgy American humour, cheap and predictable. Don't waste 2 hours of your life. I was advise, but I didn't listen, and this is the result.
Orphan (2009)
Another master class terror movie from a Spanish director.
Orphan is one of this horror movies where the script and the direction have created a superb movie. Let's go to say that this Spanish director, Jaume Collet-Serra, has been taken any single detail, like a big issue. The result is clearly a movie where the cheap blood and frights are not part of the "horror", the horror comes from the plot. This little orphan girl will stick you into the sofa from the start to finish. Her target will be to take control of her new family life, anyone interferes will have to face her. The best of this movie is the fact you will never guess what is going to happened. If you like good and elegant horror movies, this is one of them.
The Help (2011)
A touch of class
This movie, it is one of these movies that go deeper and deeper into the subject. The whole movie is a big drama, welded with a real touch of class, from the director to the actors and actresses. There is something wrong about some actresses. I could say 50% of the white women of the movie, over act, kicking all the hard work that the rest of the cast has done to do this master piece. It is a long movie, but you never get bored, because talks about the real life all the time. You will not find cheap violence, in fact you will not find any violent scene at all, something that it is almost impossible in US films these days. Remember; to me this is one of the top 3 movies of 2011.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
Cheesy romantic comedy.
Oh well, this is one of these movies, you watch and when it finishes you think, "I can't believe I have wasted 2 hours in my life on this". It is a dull comedy, and to be honest the only good actor here is Russell Brand, what is actually a comedian. His English-Approach the only thing can be saved from here. It is nice to see Mila Kunis, but her acting is poor... Paul Rudd, the stoned surfer is really good as well. Apart of that, the rest of the movie could be binned. I can't understand how this movie can reach so many good critics, I must be missing something. Kristen Bell as acctres is just bad, one of her worst performance ever.
Caracremada (2010)
Waste of time...
My big hobby is all about cinema about movies, I normally watch a NEW movie every night. I don't consider an expert, because I am not, but at least I can play in "amateur mode" with this subject.
I read the real history about Caracremada before watching the movie, and when I saw what I saw (after 60 minutes approx.) I just couldn't watch more, it was too much.
The story (HISTORY) has been modified and has become a political thing. You can feel, it only matches with the dark "Catalan Nationalism". In fact, after realising this issue I investigate who paid for this movie, who was the person behind, the company...surprise!! it was TV3. Apparently, this channel is the one subsidise by "Catalan Nationalism".
Anyway, the movie is so bad, you will be mad if you managed to stay 90 minutes in front of the screen/TV. This movie should be used by the police to get information from terrorists or something, I am sure the torture will be brutal.
This is probably the worst movie of 2010, no doubt.
Potiche (2010)
Dull comedy.
Unfortunately this movie is one of these movies you just want to forget about it. As usual Dépardieu saves the movie to get the pass (well the pass... 4/10), but the rest of the crew are quite dull in any sense.
The comedy is inspired in 1977/1978 in France, in the rise of the feminist. It will be nice if the director uses the 70's as a good scenario, but instead he only displays few 1970's cars and does it.
The poor sense of humor makes the movie almost unwatchable.
In the last years I have watched almost 300 movies, this is one of the worst.

Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)
Leaders never give up on their vision.
Tucker is an excellent movie, a true story, about how one man ,Tucker, managed to achieve his dreams fighting against one of the most powerful industries in USA, the Automotive industry.
Tucker started his company in a simple Barn, and from there he started producing cars in the biggest warehouse ever built.
You can see Francis Ford Coppola's hand in the movie, the movie is from 1988, but it looks from 2011.
I highly recommend this movie to entrepreneurs who are looking for inspiration.

Pineapple Express (2008)
Another one...
This film is another I-am-stone-how-funny-I-am type of movie. Basically the plot of the movies is about two guys spend the whole movie stoned. I suppose these movies were funny long time ago, but nowadays watch a movie about stone guys is just boring, it is like watching a film with two drunk guys...at the end you just want to kill yourself.
The acting in the movie is not bad but everyone in this movie spend at least 80% of his/her time screaming, so you end buying ear plugs.
I could not finish the movie...so imagine. I suppose this piece film is for teenagers that just light up their first joint and they feel super-cool or something.

Australia (2008)
Weird....
I am afraid, my critics about this film are going to be quite hard, as for me this movie has a lack of direction with Luhrmann.
Hard to follow at the beginning and even if you try to follow it, Luhrmann loves to do "cheap" experiments with his movie so at the end you do not understand what he is trying to say and the plot of the movie become a little bit weird until everything makes sense again.
Another bad point is the photography itself. With a country like Australia for filming, this director could not even film proper scenes with the helicopter around the mountains. He speeds up every single scene so the whole thing looks unnatural.
Nicole Kidman does not save the film, she makes it worst. Her acting is just untrustable, the expression of her face does not move in the terrible 165 mins. The best actors in the film are probably the Aborigines.
The movie should not be longer than 95mins. but it seems that the director was not happy with his job, and he decided to ruin the whole movie, that is why you get 165 min.
This is a cheap adventure movie, and this one has all you need.
Sherrybaby (2006)
A perfect acting....
Once more Maggie Gyllenhaal has done an impressive performance for SherryBaby, in fact she is the one that power the movie all the time.
This film is about the life of one ex-prisoner that leaves jail with only one thing of mind, reunite with her daughther. Maggie Gyllenhaa is not a one of this ficcion-prisoner-mother, Laurie Collyer did a very good job writing the movie looking at the current situation and I think he reaches the target by showing a yound mother has been kept in jail because she was a kind of next-door-drugdealer.
The film itself is a day to day after prison, and how this skinny girl try her best to get what she wants but always finding some one infront of her. She doesn't like to break the rules, but she doesn't understand why they there.
The film will keep you in the seat all the time, I promise.
Gran Torino (2008)
Master class direction and acting.
Well, to be honest I don't know where to start. I do not normally score a movie to 9, unless is a piece of art.
"Gran Torino" is this kind of movie that can be watched by anyone, and even a 8 years old kid will have fun. Why? because this movie has been release in layers, basically, depending of if you want to get. You can go for a simple message or you can enter in a massive critic about the whole society in the new North America, why is in decline, and how the values of countries like China are bringing fresh air to our world.
The acting and direction is superb, this movie deserves more awards and is not getting anything.
Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Poor movie
I have to say, than this movie does not get all what a 8 Oscars movie deserves. The direction is poor, the acting is even poorer and the story is a little bit dull. The only positive thing about it, is the idea of use a TV program to carry the argument is brilliant but is not enough.
Another problem I see about this movie is the lack of real life with the kids, the director doesn't show the full Mumbai.
The crappy gangs look quite cheap, and the director should do something to make this to look more realistic.
Conclusion; is you have been in India and you know how it looks like, do not waste your time watching this movie. If you are interested about Indian affairs...this is your movie.
