3 Idiots (2009)
A good movie and a clever adaptation
The whole nation is going gaga over 3 idiots..and heres my chance to do the same but in a more fair way. I would be totally honest with this review. Movie was very good. not excellent. if you are thinking whether to watch the film or not, I would say go watch it ASAP. but why did I say its not excellent? because I have read the book and I couldn't help but notice the scenes inspired from the book. The plot of the movie is different but many things have been restored from the book and that did not give me a fresh feeling about the movie. Also another point I would like to add is that movie was very very predictable. I was able to guess who Phun Suk is..I was able to guess what would happen with Joy and I was able to guess many other things which were supposedly twists in the story.
Music: well it sounds just above ordinary in my car but in the movie the songs blended very well and there was no boring moment during the songs.
Acting: Aamir was brilliant in most of the scenes, but in few scenes I felt he tried too hard to come out as a youngster. Madhavan and Sharman were equally good. Boman's character took some time to get accustomed to but he did a great job of convincing you with his accent and way of talking. Kareena did not have much to do in this movie but she did a decent job. The surprise package in the movie is Omi. His speech scene is going to be a landmark in 2009 for Hindi film industry.
Movie on the whole: Story is pretty good and decent changes made by Script writers after taking off from the book. Direction is also very good with certain aspects coming out really well like the black and white scenes and the way it starts with madhavan getting out of flight etc etc. movie has a good amount of comedy instilled in it which makes the movie enjoyable all along. I personally felt some parts were ridiculous like baby kicking after hearing certain words and Sharman's jump from 3rd floor etc etc. But on the whole Movie is a must watch because of its fresh subject, different story and approach, comedy and good performances by all the cast. I give it 8/10. go watch and enjoy.
Magadheera (2009)
Visual Treat. Total entertainer
When you are going to any S.S. Rajamouli movie..you always have a feeling that rarely he lets the audience down...right from Student no.1 to Chatrapthi to Simhadri or Yamadonga he always makes sure he provides a movie which hangs on to you for a while..well Magadheera is much more than that and arguably is best work by SS.Rajamouli so far..
Why do I say the previous line? The visuals, action sequences, romance, songs everything about this movie is really engaging and even the story though being simple makes you involve in it and during the scene where the hero dives down the mountain after the heroine..you feel your heart dropping too...and not just that scene but many others. Kajal is convincing as a bubbly girl who was a princess in her last birth..and it didn't feel that she was just a showpiece in the movie..Srihari had a brief but impacting roles of sher khan and Solomon..Chiru's guest appearance was kinda disappointing for me as I was hoping I would get to see him dance which didn't happen..but the person we definitely need to talk about here is Ram Charan the hero of the movie...Ram Charan has improved his acting by miles...compared to Chirutha..and has really proved that he can handle acting well...It seemed as if the role was written for him and no other actor would suit this role. the risky horse riding shots..the fight sequences...the sword fighting...everything was performed with ease by Ram Charan..
with good performances by the actors..and a visually stunning movie..and Rajamouli style of story telling...Magadheera would easily become one of the best movies of 2009 ..specially some sequences like fight sequence near Shiva statue...Udaygadh visual beauty...the sets used..the graphics...the concept...the opening scene..are first time ever in Telugu film industry...I give it 8/10 and its definitely worth a watch..
