Ready (2011)
Time for Salman Khan to retire
One of the worst film I have every seen. The only reason I went to watch this was due to me not watching any Bollywod movie for a while (at least 1 year). I left my brain at home before I went to the cinema. I wasn't expecting much from it. However, The first hour was just pure rubbish, second hour it picks up but with cheap jokes and real bad script the movie goes nowhere.
This movie may do well due to the fact there aren't any big Bollywood release this summer. The only person that acted well in the movie was Paresh Rawal. I Will forgive me for selling his soul to save his life from Salman Khan.
P.S. Salman Khan dude, just go to a acting class and learn some acting, what happened man?
Tees Maar Khan (2010)
Worst movies of this century
I can't rate this less than 1 or else I would have rated it -1000000/10. People please don't waste your money in this c**p, I walked out after 15 minutes as my brain couldn't take the stupidity any more. Acting = fail, script = fail, directing = fail. I think a monkey could have written and directed a better movie than this. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY (don't even bother downloading it).
I mean I don't even want to write 10 lines (as I am forced by IMDb) regarding this stupid movie. This is why people don't respect bollywood movies. Katrina Kaif acted like a cheap prostitute from Amsterdam (if you know what I mean!), definitely not family friendly. I want to donate someone money to farha khan, so that she can learn how to write and direct properly. I am ashamed of liking her previous work. It felt like she went to toilet break when the acting was taking place. WORST MOVIE EVER.
Karthik Calling Karthik (2010)
Possible the best movie of the year!
I normally do not share my word of wisdom with the world, this is an exception! I am positive by now you have seen the trailers and promotions, if not DO NOT WATCH THEM and get ready to impressed. So I will not be boring you with the story but only what I thought of it.
Karthik Calling Karthik is an exceptionally well made film from the beginning to the end (promise I wasn't paid for this). The story is very well written which grips and demands your attention from the start till the last moment, even the intermission sequence was special. I have to admit before I entered the theatre I had pre-empted view, which was quickly demolished by the film and I was hooked! Now people will be comparing this to Fight Club (great film) or Donnie Darko but believe me it is very different, yes it may share protagonist's similarity but that it is where the resemblance ends.
I found the songs were very well blended with the film sequences and not like "every 5 minutes out of nowhere". There was no "skin show" at all or half naked woman's dancing to grab your attention (see Prince Trailer for this) although there was one sequence with Deepika which I did not mind at all! You can definitely watch this movie with your family. And it's not all serious business there were lots of moments with neat jokes. The love story which is the backbone of the movie was not over done and I thought it was very well incorporated with other parts.
Final thoughts, I loved this movie it is not My Name Is Khan (lots of overdone sequences e.g. Mama Jenny song or Barack Obama speech) or like 3 Idiots (Phunsukh Wangdu). It is a very well made film which is ahead of current Bollywood trend e.g. "pull my finger and find out" or any Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar flicks. Don't get me wrong it has its flaws e.g. some people will totally hate the ending and some people will love it, but for me the story and the acting outweighs its flaws by many, many times. The penultimate question would be will I be recommending this movie to my family and friends over My Name Is Khan or 3 idiots (exceptional good films in their own right) my answer would be definitely yes (but you should absolutely watch those two films, they are great).
Main Aurr Mrs Khanna (2009)
Decent attempt by Salman Khan
I rarely give Salman Khan movies 2 star rating, believe me it was hard!(I never give them more then 1 normally) I watched this movie just after I finished watching "Blue" so I maybe bit biased as "Blue" was one of THE worst film of this year.
Anyway back to the review. The story revolves around two people meeting & falling in love and ultimately getting married. It is only then the real story begins and over next two hours or so we find out how the global recession affected the couple as Kareena chooses to work but her greedy banker! husband just wants to pamper her, but can't afford to, thus he sets a journey of a thousand miles to go where every man goes (finds a work), and bring home the all mighty dollar, so that he can buy his wife a posh home. And it is during this thousand mile journey where the two hearts are separated and only connected with pay phone (She can't afford to have a mobile phone) on which she must press 1 four times to call outside Australia without breaking the bank. And during this period we learn about long distance relationship with few funny moments and the same old Bollywood ending.
In conclusion I would like to say it has good performance by the cast, but big let down by the story. Compare to "Wanted" where you could chop off first half of the movie without any damage to the story or plot line but you are rewarded in second half, with this one the plot line just fails to peek up or commends any attention from the audience, it was like the cast were held at gunpoint to do this movie. But this is defiantly better than "God Tussi Great Ho" or "Yuvvraaj" but is it worth watching it in cinema? definitely not you are better off buying a cheap second hand copy for maybe £2-£3 max pounds.
Blue (2009)
Worst movie of the year.
Without a shadow of a doubt this is one of the worst film of the year. I never believed it would actually top such title as "Kambakkht Ishq", "Love Aaj Kal" or "Chandni Chowk to China" but it did. The plot and the script is very poorly written with some dialogues being straight lifted from well known movies.
I am not going to divulge the plot because it is so simple with one twist in the end. After watching the first 30 minutes you will be able to tell what is going to happen for rest of the movie. But I have to say the cinematography was good, i think that was only good thing about the movie.
In conclusion I would like to say the script is poorly written with equally bad plot, its delivered very poorly by the cast with many dialogue and continuity errors which are obvious to the audience during the run of the movie. The only plus point is you get to see Lara Dutta in bikini which she looks wonderful in but not the acting!
Soon-jeong-man-hwa (2008)
I absolutely loved this movie.
This is one of the rare movie I really enjoyed watching. It doesn't have over the top dramatic scenes or story. The story is very simple thus I will not comment on it, as I believe it will ruin it for you. It is very unconventional romantic movie which I found it to be quite unique. Also the way it was told and acted felt real to me.
It is one of those movie which inspires you to be different, makes you think about giving life a go, not to give up in life & love, and makes you think that you are not alone in this world, that we all need that someone special in our life who pushes us to be more then what we are. Puts meaning to every heartbeat, after all wouldn't it be sad to just follow the same routine, law, behaviour etc laid out for you by society, family so on? This movie questions those beliefs and makes you think are you alive or just a person among 6 billion living a scheduled, structured life.
Excuse my above paragraph, it is just what I thought immediately after I finished watching this movie. It truly inspired me. This movie may not be for everyone certainly not for impatient people. The movie is slow paced but this is what makes it so great, well at list to me as life sometimes is also slow paced.
If you have come this far reading my review I truly recommended it to you. But don't hate me if you don't like it, and demand your last two hours of your life back, because I cannot give it to you as I am not god! But I offer my heartfelt sincere apologies.
Love Aaj Kal (2009)
Slow start, poor story and overall poor performance, but nice songs!
The entire movie was poorly executed. The story and concept was too well known and it was not unique. First half was total nonsense and it does start to peek up but fails to engage the audience. I was watching this movie with my friends and as I was browsing to see how many people actually turned up I saw one couple were sleeping.
Don't get me wrong I do enjoy "chick flicks", but this one doesn't even come close to a good movie such as "The Notebook", "Kal Ho Na Ho" or "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". It has a basic plot about a guy who doesn't believe in the concept of "The One" person love. Through the movie he begins to doubt his beliefs which is encouraged by the "Kal" story and ultimately has a sudden intuitive perception of his life and the concept of the one love. This movie is a hybrid of "Socha Na Tha" and "jab We Met" with a simple TWIST in the end.
For me it was a waste of time and money, and an embarrassment form my friends for actually taking them to watch it. After watching it, we all agreed if IMDb had negative rating system it would deserves -10 because the director and the writer were very lazy and not innovative enough. But later I changed my mind and gave it 2 just because the songs were decent enough.
Performance by Saif Ali Khan 3/10. Deepika Padukone just because of her sexy body plus acting dumber than usual 6/10 and the new girl Giselle Monteiro (Harleen) 8/10 just because I find her more attractive than Deepika plus it took me good research time to find her name.
Now I strongly recommended people not to waste their money or time, rather you are better off watching "Jab We Met" again or buying a copy of "The Notebook" or the South Korean movie "My Sassy Girl (2001)" which are truly romantic.
P.S. My all time favourite romantic move has to be "The fountain (2006)" by Darren Aronofsky.
Kambakkht Ishq (2009)
One of THE crappiest movie I have seen in long time.
After watching Akshay Kumar's "Welcome" I said to my self never again will I watch another of his film in cinema. And without a doubt that thought was reinforced as I was sitting down watching this nonsense movie. As I left the cinema I promised my self to never make Akshay Kumar mistake again. The movie was terrible from start to finish, no story, no acting, forced laughter and generally no nothing. So i'm not going to bore you with details because they are none. Normally I leave my brain out side theatre doors when watching any Bollywood movies, but for this one you would have to leave your brain in planet Neptune. Recommended for people with -150 IQ.
Slumdog Millionaire (2008)
Simply an inspiring movie
After watching Bakwaas movies such as Ghajini, Welcome, Sing is King (absolutely Bakwaas), Golmaal Returns and Chandni Chowk To China this is truly an outstanding and inspiring movie to watch. Beautifully directed and well written.
To those people who are saying this move does not represent real India I suggest they should visit India and one of those slum areas. This movie portrays real life and not Disneyland, but doses it in way which makes us understand the social divide we have in India. Where minority controls the wealth & power and majority live below poverty line, and let's not forget about child labour.
Is this movie depressing? NO. It show's us a part of India which I am certain no body is proud of, and tries to explain it by bringing this controversial issue to public which we all like to ignore/oversee.
At list this movie is trying to portray less privileged humans who don't have daddy's express account or mummy's chicken biryani to eat everyday. Name me one good Bollywood movie which tried to bring the class/wealth division to the screen without implanting the concept of Romeo and Juliet.
I am sorry to disappoint people but this movie doesn't have random song every five minutes nor does it have sexed up vulgar women's with tits out. What it does have it tells the story of two brothers struggling to survive through any means possible. How society exploits them and in the end what it makes each of them.
This movie is essentially about how people try to survive through hardship and struggle and still have hope in the end, and how you should never give up. You will not be disappointed when the movie ends.
Regardless of what it portrays I have found this movie to be extremely well made inspiring and one of the best I have seen. It has defiantly moved me and also has inspired me enough to believe in hope again. It is ultimately for us (Indian) to change our country for its betterment. It is easy to criticise something from the warmth of your bedroom, but it is another to actually help someone in need.
P.S. And when was the time you actually helped one of those slum kids with descent food or clothes? Ask yourself that question before making any kind of criticism.
Caution/Warning: This movie requires some USE of something between YOUR two ears called BRAIN.
