Aftersun (2022)
Pure Genius.
Literally the most emotional film i have ever seen.
I can't say anything that hasn't been said on these beautiful reviews on IMDB.
It's just pure genius.
2 ultra powerful performances who work together beautifully.
The Under Pressure scene ripped my heart out.
I've heard it said, it's so true that this work of art hits you like a ton of bricks a few days later.
Not that we have to say it these days but I'm male in my late 40s and i shed tears, i even broke into tears just talking about the film a few days later, i just can't believe how this got to me.
Be sure to watch Charlotte Wells' interview on YouTube.
'You won't walk away the same person'.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Coming Of Age Masterpiece!
Absolutely flawless coming of age movie.
Daisy Edgar-Jones delivers an amazing performance. They couldn't have chosen a better actress.
Solid movie throughout with the ultimate satisfactory ending, which i had to Google the explanation for. That gave it the full star rating, it had to end that way.
It's quite rare that i give 10 stars for a movie, it really has to be that good.
I love the coming of age genre and this really tops the lot.
It's also very picturesque throughout and directed beautifully.
This had me gripped from the opening until the very final scene. I'm just so happy that the ending was what it was.
Very clever writing.
Not Okay (2022)
Zoey Deutch
One of my favourite movies ever is Before I Fall so I'm always looking out for Zoey Deutch.
Not that I like all of her movies.
When i saw she'd released new movie Not Okay i immediately subscribed to the Disney Channel.
At an hour and 45 minutes i was in real anticipation of a good wedge of viewing and not the usual rush job of a 90 minute.
And hey, a great movie packed solid from start to finish. It's quite no holds barred when it comes to vocabulary, quite the surprise as it cuts right through this crazy wokeness. Very brave, a movie with such individualism!
It's a brilliant story that is true to today's sad social media society. The camera closes in on all of those notifications on her phone, absolute madness. I immediately thought of my 3 young Daughters, are their phones this crazy? Is this the norm??
Towards the ending her downfall as an influencer really has you wondering what the hell would you do in that position? There's no escape at all from the internet!
As always a fantastic performance from Zoey Deutch.
I think a movie like this had to be made, they're so rare. The kids need to be watching this to realise that if they're not careful with their social media, they could fall into a bottomless pit.
The movie is also for adult viewing, especially for parents like myself.
Fresh (2022)
Refreshing Movie!
I just knew this was going to be brilliant from the opening of the movie. The production is first class quality.
The acting is superb from the 2 lead roles.
I really did wonder what was going to go wrong during the first half hour introduction seeing the perfect date get it together. Never did i expect what was around the corner.
No, it's NOT another Hostel or Saw. Far from it, this is unique. Totally refreshing, a new idea. The performances from both actors are so realistic.
Unlike a lot of movies with a victim, this one doesn't get messy in its final act. It flows beautifully throughout and ends superbly.
That dance 1 hour 35 minutes in is the absolute icon of this movie. That's art.
Witness Number 3 (2022)
Watchable
The first episode was tense especially the ending.
The remaining 3 episodes just plod on with some good scenes. It's the lead character that completely ruins the show, she's not convincing at all and there's just nothing about her.
A rarity for these series is that there's a satisfactory ending.
The wooden police cast were terrible and i couldn't have cared less about their role in the story towards the end. So what?
No shocks or twists here, it's just watchable for the tense scenes when this woman is up against the gang.
Boiling Point (2021)
Incredible Realistic Tension!
"You can't swear quietly!"
Stephen Graham does STRESS to perfection, I've been waiting for another of his stressors since the amazing The Virtues. And here it is!
This film (not a movie) is shot to perfection.
It's fictional fly on the wall unlike anything I've ever come across before.
A brilliant idea.
This is extremely tense and realistic!
It seems nothing is left out from the stress of running and working in a restaurant including no holds barred eye opening racism.
All you'll be saying throughout this is JUST WALK OUT!
The Rhythm Section (2020)
Gritty Trash
Gritty and trashy from the start until the appalling trashy ending.
It seems to start off ok from the introduction then it goes in a completely different direction.
If you think it's got to get better as you're watching, believe you me it doesn't.
The Furies (2019)
After All It IS Australian!
What more can you expect from an Australian movie?
Definitely not more than 1 star.
Utterly terrible from the very start.
Oh dear, those silly pointless jump scenes and appalling music.
#Horror (2015)
It's Obvious Why This Movie Was Made
The dark sick side of this movie is the obvious intention the movie makers had with their portrayal and close shots of young girls.
The good side is a real education for parents of teenage girls with their modern day relationships with friends which is all taking place as an addiction via their evil apps on their phones.
A real eye opener for us parents makes this a must see. Excellent acting from the young cast who realistically tell this narrative as it actually is.
The story however is a complete mess and the visuals will seriously drive you mad.
Terrible ending but definitely worth a watch for parents. Teenagers may also get a buzz from this not to mention a shameful reality check.
A Vigilante (2018)
Don't Believe The Hype
It's hardly about vengeance at all, just a couple of occasions she sorts someone out but it's done so lazily that the main scenes are skipped so you don't get to see a real emotional vengeance taking place.
Great acting but weak throughout with an appalling ending.
This Is Going to Hurt (2022)
Lung Medicine
Full blown realistic life humour, this is brilliant.
It's very first dialogue is "f@@k" and the very last is "for f@@ck's sake"
This doctor is seriously stressed but he humours it and carries on regardless. The one liners are priceless.
Seriously these one liners are GENIUS.
The lion, the witch and the wardrobe.
This series is unlike any I've seen before, it's a real gem. It goes from seriousness to humour working alongside to perfection capturing the high pressure of working in an NHS hospital.
The final birth scene is breathtaking, how the
Adam dealt with a life or death scenario was amazing.
The only negative was the graphic gay sex scenes, no need for it.
The series kept on giving constantly from start to finish at an excellent pace. All of the cast brilliant actors. Ben Whishaw will no doubt receive a lot of awards for his amazing performance.
To witness all of this stress was real lung medicine for me, just knowing that i can now handle my own stress a little better after watching this.
Our House (2022)
Excellent Twisty Psychological Thriller
It's not often i rate as high as this, but Our House was tense. Really tense.
This series had me gripped throughout especially the first 3 episodes.
The road rage scene was brilliant. I couldn't keep my eyes off the road.
Excellent acting from all the cast especially from the 2 bad guys.
I would've rated a 10 had episode 4 not gone into a slight anti climax. Most shows start off brilliant then die off in the second half but this one just kept on going except for the somewhat disappointing ending, it needed to go on for longer and show more, although it was satisfactory to some degree.
One of the best series I've seen in a long time. Definitely the best one during BBC & ITV's current onslaught of series' we're getting lately!
The Holiday (2021)
Bang On The Book For Genius TM Logan!
TM Logan is a genius writer and I recommend all of his books.
This show has served him well. It captured the book brilliantly. What I 'saw' in the book was put to the screen perfectly. With regards the scenery and characters. It must be challenging to produce a visual from such a twisty novel.
Obviously the book is better as there is more detail and also some small parts that weren't shown in the series including the thumb print and a full explanation of the final twist regarding the young boy.
Kate, Jake & Lucy were excellent. They looked the part and performed bang on.
All in all a well acted cast.
Most of those that are giving this negative reviews obviously don't read books, they're just mindless social media scrollers that have probably never picked up a book in their lives.
The fact is, that the show absolutely nailed it with the adaptation of the book.
I didn't expect much from trashy Channel 5, but they succeeded this time.
No Return (2022)
Death In Paradise Meets Home & Away
Same old, the storyline starts off really well then dies in the second half.
I rarely score the pointless 5 stars, you either like or dislike something. But it's 5 for the first half and zero for the second.
Production and acting is terrible.
The parents were awful, so unrealistic.
And the son in prison, also a bad actor, is an absolute joke.
But it was the first 2 episodes that kept me watching.
The Death In Paradise production was getting in my way but i was interested to see what happened next.
The final episode especially the court scene almost made me vomit, a terrible WOKE effort reminiscent of an Australian soap ending. Just when I thought THAT ending would happen, it quickly turned round to Home & Away. Shame.
It's watchable but don't expect much, it's so cheap.
Chloe (2022)
UTTERLY Boring But SHE Is Good
The storyline is appalling, this seriously bored me to tears.
So why didn't i just switch off instead of wasting 6 hours of my life?
Because Erin Doherty is great in this, a brilliant actress. It's her that gives this pointless drama watchability! She lets you hang on by a thread. Alongside its good production.
For the life of me how these writers get their ridiculous ideas from is beyond me.
The Bay (2019)
Season 3 WOKE But Watchable
Muslims everywhere! Up against the all but 1 white police force balancing the Wokeness of Season 3.
Seasons 1 & 2 were good, here's where it starts to die off with Season 3. The acting is absolutely terrible.
The story is watchable, it's so tempting to turn off during the first half but it does pick up towards the end.
I don't believe any viewer cares who the killer is.
EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER IS UNLIKEABLE!
The Bay needs a sexy female cast otherwise it'll just carry on its downward slope.
The Teacher (2022)
Solid Accusation Terror!
The first 2 episodes nailed it with the terror and consequences of accusation.
Everything that could've happened in a situation like this happened.
Realistically portrayed terror directed at the accused.
A rarity for a show to use every last drop of potential.
Brilliant acting all round especially from lead actress Sheridan Smith. Very likeable character, so selfless. How the producers of the show showed how seriously she took her role as teacher with regards her pupils.
The first 2 episodes would have me scoring this 10 stars but after the fallout of the accusation the show became just watchable with the investigation leading to one of those 'make it up as you go along' poor endings.
Well worth watching for what the teacher went through being accused.

Rules of the Game (2022)
Watchable Mess But Stars For Rakhee Thakrar
Rakhee Thakrar is brilliant in this, a superb sexy and brilliant actress who had a great role and that is the only positive about this show.
Oh and Audrey was amazing!
It's watchable as a series but it's completely pointless.
The ending is just a mess.
Most of the cast are unlikeable and the only realistic acting is smoking cigarettes non stop.
The only opportunity the producers gave the child actors were sticking them on phones which was so clichéd.
I didn't feel the need to turn it off as it is watchable but don't expect anything great. It's just mediocre.
And if you like Rakhee Thakrar it's an absolute must watch!
Somewhere (2010)
Total Flow State
One of those very rare gems of a movie which puts you in absolute flow state. Amazing.
If you're a single or divorced Dad with a Daughter you'll really relate to this. It's brilliantly done.
Long beautiful scenes paced to perfection.
One if those movies to be watched over and over.
Real feel good.
The Girl Before (2021)
Have Plenty Of Tissues Handy!
It's very rare i score a 5, either something is good or something is bad. But it's neither good nor bad. Just an average watchable series. Yes it's pointless, drawn out and mostly boring but not enough to turn it off, it has some interesting bits in between.
I yawned, a lot. Eyes streaming and constantly drying them.
The timeline is confusing as the 2 characters are similar.
The acting is terrible but this is compensated with a sexy actress that of Jessica Plummer.
The set is awful but the arial and panoramic views of the city are amazing.
Episode 1 starts off pretty well then it's all downhill from there right to the appalling clichéd ending.
I love series' that have plenty of episodes but this could've been done over 2 episodes instead of 4.
Boring but watchable.
Happy Death Day 2 U (2019)
Thankfully Keeps Up The Formula!
I was really hoping the sequel would keep up the formula from the excellent first movie.
To my utter surprise it did! She's back and it just carries on!
I usually avoid comedies but just like the first movie it isn't silly comedy, it's realistic life comedy. The vocabulary from the excellent lead actress is superb.
"You are gaaaaay!"
Some amazingly laugh out loud funny scenes with the airplane jump and the slow motion FU falling scene.
Brilliant acting from all the cast.
Scenes which coincide with emotional moments and real empathy.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, i rarely give out 10's!
Very reminiscent of Final Destination with regards the feel and background music.
A movie series which also strictly kept up the formula throughout.
Sequels are only bad if the formula is changed.
Thankfully Happy Death Day didn't change!
Fantastic unique gem of a movie.
My Salinger Year (2020)
10 Stars If You Love Margaret Qualley
I chose this movie simply because Margaret Qualley stars in this!
After watching The Maid, which is brilliant, i needed more from this amazing actress and so i came across this movie.
So for fans of Margaret Qualley this is a real treat, she totally runs the show appearing in almost every scene. Another excellent performance from her.
As for the movie I'd have given 7 stars, it's good regardless of what type of movies you're into.
May (2002)
A Brilliant Female Psychopath!
There's very few movies with decent female psychopaths. The best one I've seen is in Audition.
She has all the characteristics of a psychopath, an actress who gives an excellent performance.
The movie lets you get to know the main character very well hence its slow start.
As indeed all of the acting is good all round from the cast, that being the victims especially.
The movie is paced well which is needed to build up characters and the events to arise in their demise.
The kills are done very well, nothing over the top albeit they are carried out pretty quickly. So no gore just for the sake of gore. So all good.
I'd have rated higher except that the ending was a little dire for me. No spoilers but i wanted the opposite to happen for her.
Highly recommended for fans of female psychopaths!
The Loved Ones (2009)
The Usual Ozzy Balderdash
It's watchable but there's no escaping the usual way the Ozzy's deliver their movies.
It's all done just for the sake of it.
The female psychopath however is quite good, but that's it.
The ending is probably the worst horror movie ending ever. That pathetic last scene of the psychopath is what trash is all about. So so embarrassing.
Worth a watch if you like female psychopaths which was my reason for choosing this movie but the rest of it is just laughable nonsense.
