Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero (2002)
Powerful
This happens to be one of the most powerful pieces of filmed documentary I have ever seen.
Lifeforce (1985)
Actually 0 Stars
If I could, I would give it zero stars. The premise: Naked soul-sucking vampire-woman/people from outer space walk around naked and suck people's souls out. Yes, that's really what happens in this movie from start to finish. Oh, yeah, and Earth's scientists try to figure out what's going on! This is one movie I'll bet Patrick Stewart wishes he had never gotten involved with. It's so bad, I remember one patrons of the theater I was in getting up, yelling "this movie is STUPID" and walking out about 1/3 of the way through. Don't know why I stayed until the end but I did. Bad, bad, bad.
On Golden Pond (1981)
Love this movie!
I've loved this movie since the first time I saw it. Love the chemistry between Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda, great to watch two old pro's of Hollywood's golden era go at it and chew up some screen time. Loved the scenery and the music. Loved the fishing! I like to fish, so this movie holds a special appeal. One thing; most of the reviewers on here have been saying that Jane Fonda's performance as Chelsea was weak. I don't see it that way - I thought she did a good job, especially in her scenes with Katharine Hepburn. They really look enough alike to be a mother and daughter, and their chemistry in the couple of the one on one scenes they acted out together was remarkable! So, bore, bore, bore, you folks who were not impressed with Jane's performance here, to quote Ethel Thayer: I just don't think you're looking closely enough!
The Doctor (1991)
Elizabeth Perkins' elevates this movie
A hidden gem of a movie about a doctor who learns what it's like to be sick and become a patient in his own hospital. William Hurt is fine as Dr. Jack McKee, and Christine Lahti is good as his lonely, hurt wife, but Elizabeth Perkins' performance as June, a fellow patient with Jack in for radiation therapy for her Stage 4 brain tumor is absolutely brilliant. She could've blown it with an over the top performance here, but she finds just the right tone and is really a calming presence throughout her screen time. She even looks good with a shaved head, bless her! I also love the scene (Tearjerker Alert) in which Mr. Maris, a prospective heart transplant patient of Jack asks him if the donor was good hearted or kind hearted and Jack's answer to him. Adam Arkin, Mandy Patinkin, and Wendy Crewson, as a mean-spirited Ear Nose & Throat specialist also deliver strong supporting turns.
