A Royal Christmas Ball (2017)
Tara Reid is spectacular- (-ly miscast) in this film.
Tara Reid is, I'm sorry, not what we would believe as the classy, beautiful long-lost love of a prince. She is more box wine than Bordeaux. Ingo Rademacher, usually as dependable an actor as he is handsome, is a particularly charmless prince. Together he and Reid are a totally unlikely love match in this tedious Christmas romance. For Christmas movie fans, there is not much in the California setting to bring that warm holiday glow. The one bright spot is the sweet, effortless performance from Haley Pullos as their daughter Lily. The scenes with and her friend Taylor (Kennedy Lea Slocum) are adorable. There is very little else in this film to recommend it.
Christmas in Homestead (2016)
Cute and traditional
This is a cut above the usual Hallmark fare. The reason is good casting - the actors are excellent and bring dimension to the characters.
A Christmas Story (1983)
Laugh-out-loud Christmas classic
An incredibly charming and hilarious Christmas movie suitable for all ages. This semi-autobiographical story by Jean Shepherd (who also does the voice-over of grown-up Ralphie) recalls an idyllic childhood in middle America in the innocent 1950's. Ralphie is a ten year old boy bent on getting a Red Ryder Daisy Air Rifle for Christmas. His mother is equally determined that BB guns are too dangerous - "You'll shoot your eye out!" But it's not about the BB gun. Loaded with off-beat humor and quirky characters, this story celebrates family life and the perils and misadventures of being a kid. No matter where you grew up, or when, you will identify and commiserate with Ralphie's travails - and those of his long-suffering parents - in this Christmas treasure. It has become as much a part of my Christmas season as Bing Crosby and decorating the tree. Add it to the must-see list!!!
