Wanted (2008)
Wanted bad on every level
WANTED was awful. I could only get through 5 minutes maybe. I turned it off when a guy ran down a hall, jumped through a glass window, and had a running gun battle. Come on! That was too much bull to take. Who ever made this movie has to be a video game nut. No way does a video game make a good movie. I played Dungeons and Dragons. then I watched the movie. It stunk to high heaven. WANTED is a waste of time. What ever happened to story or plot? Visual effects happy people are out of control with movies. I don't watch movies for visual effects. I watch movies for a story. Jolie was great in CHANGELING. Skip WANTED and see her that movie.
Street Warrior (2008)
Great movie
Street Warrior was super kick butt. What I hate about most reviews on IMDb are knuckle heads that spew bile on low budget movies. I tried to watch huge budget WANTED and was bored in 2 minutes. A video game is not a movie. I have much love for movies like Street Warrior that entertain without trying to be overly artistic. This movie has a strong dose of action you can main line. Camera work was amazingly sick. It was like 3D when punches came at the tele. I very much felt like this was a Seagal or Norris movie movie. Fight parts were incredible. I can only hope other more open minded movie watchers give this a chance. I would watch this any day over WANTED.
Look (2007)
Pure gee-gee rubbish
Even if I where bleep up betting the gee-gees in ISLE OF MAN coming home head down I could not sit watch this movie. LOOK what an original title there. Happy to see somebody made Big Brother into a movie. What's next? Girls Gone Wild at the cinema! Adam Rifkin made one dirty grab you by the nuts movie. NIGHT AT THE GOLDEN EAGLE. One of the best. This movie had to be made by little children with Mum's camera. Acting went below 2 bit. Any sane person would call this horrible rubbish. I am in full support of kriskoppy1961. A good shower is only way to cleanse yourself from this piece of cinema garbage. LOOK should have only cost 100 Euros to produce 50 Euros for Mum.
Baby Boy (2001)
Baby Boy emotional and powerful
Jody is a unemployed immature young man who isn't committed to anything or anyone but himself. He has two children out of wedlock he does not financially support. He leeches off his mother living at home. He tries to act like a gangster in the streets. That act does not fool anyone in his neighborhood. He's thought of as soft.
His mother takes up with a veteran gangster called Mel. Jody feels left out as Mel becomes the man of the house. Mel tries to school Jody on how to be a real man. Jody doesn't take the lesson. Mel and Jody have a fight. It's like when a older stronger lion chases a weaker younger out the pride to fend for themselves. Jody is out on his own.
He shacks up with one of his kids moms. She has some kind of relationship with a hard core gangster that beens in prison called Rodney. When Rodney comes home he causes problems for Jody. It's time for Jody to be a man and face this hard core gangster. Jody unable to kill him only wounds him, but it sends a strong enough message he will protect his own. Shook up and scared he turns to Mel who without words understands what Jody is going through. Mel uses his street mentality to put Jody back together and calm him. The two share a bond now. Jody leaves his mother's house to become a man on his own with one of his mother's children. The one he loves.
Tyrese Gibson was stellar as Jody. Great performance. As a viewer I got caught up in his story because I thought he was an immature punk at times and felt sorry for him other times when Mel and Rodney backed him down. Ving Rhames gave a powerful showing as Mel. When he has Jody in a headlock letting him know what he would do to a weak man in prison was real to the bone. Ving Rhames commands every part he is in. Snoop Dogg was low down dirty Rodney. Snoop Dogg's best acting I've seen. He owned that part. He played the bad guy to perfection.
John Singleton's best movie. Much better than Boyz n the Hood. More real and powerful with heart. I expected Mel was going to have to deal with Rodney. Singleton did not go that route and out smarted this viewer.
In with Thieves (2008)
Sexy double-dealing crime movie
In with Thieves has a smart plot that keeps you guessing. The Albanian mob has it's hooks into a high level thief named Good looking Jack over a sizable gambling debt. He lands in prison before he can settle his debt. Jack trusts his wannabe rock star brother-in-law to deliver money he arranges from inside to pay off the Albanians. When Jack gets out he is sent a horrific message that his brother-in-law and a friend tried to use bogus money to pay the debt keeping the real money for themselves.
The message? His brother-in-law is forced to watch his friends private parts cut off. It was a bloody part that made me cringe. What a movie opening! To add insult to injury Jack's sexy wife blew all the stolen money he had tucked away, took a lover, and filed for divorce. Our dark hero is screwed. The head of the Albanian mob threatens to kill Jack's ex-wife who he still loves before cutting Jsck's head, hands, and feet off.
Jack turns to his old robbery crew to help him get back on his feet and pay off the Albanians. They cry poor. Jack crawls into the bottom of bottle leading to a steamy sexual affair with a voodoo practicing Cuban crime lords wife.
Sex turns to a robbery plan. Her husband has a blood diamond deal set with a African crime syndicate.
Jack has to bring in the Albanian mob to settle his debt. The robbery goes down in bloody fashion. After that criminals begin to get killed off. Each trying to protect themselves or double-cross a friend.
This is an excellent crime movie. The performances were very engaging despite the fact these were new actors I have never seen. The key Albanian gangster was by far the most memorable. Running a close second was the Crime lords wife. A beautiful strong black woman that happened to be a killer. The Cuban crime lord had a mistress that was beyond exotic beauty. I can't forget when his wife walks in and his mistress is topless in a thong with a terrific body. Cuban crime lord tells her to come upstairs to learn a thing or two about romance.
Sexy factor was huge! I bought this DVD after reading a review on Mr. Skin. It did not disappoint on attractive women.
Most likable was how many unique traits this low budget movie had. Albanian mob, a burglary crew made of Irish, Mexican, and Black members. Cuban gangsters that practice voodoo. There is a whole lot packed into this little move. There are a couple of negative comments about how it looked. I absolutely disagree. It's a nice piece of work. I gave a 10 because it's obvious the budget was huge. I applaud the effort and was entertained.
