Drag Me to Hell (2009)
Very Disappointed
I was a big fan of Director/Writer Sam Rami since Evil Dead Trilogy & Spiderman trilogy I was looking forward to this movie b/c of his involvement in both as a writer & as a director.
The movie was just written very poorly in both storyline & characters - the storyline was shallow and boring - it's like a Stephen king novel that was so boring you need violence & grotesque special effects. The theme is like gypsy woman get mad at the person working at a bank & cursed her it's sigh ... very immature. The movie is prematurely made - from script to production ... if they put in more serious thoughts into it, it could have been a good one.
Comparatively, a movie with less attention was much better than this one - Dead Silence (2007)
Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010)
Oliver Stone worth 9/10
I didn't have high hope on this but 10 minutes after watching this - it pulled me in with such a depth of insight & info.
It used to be MS NBC Business, CNN, CBC, Wall Street Journal ... then it's Michael Moore, William (Bill) Cooper, ... etc other documentary / investigative film makers.
The story continues after Mr. Geeko got out of jail and things just weren't as native as before after a few bubble bursts. What makes this movie special is it's down to earth, realistic, asking a question everyone wondering - y isn't anyone stopping scams & gritters rotting wall street / USA / world economy. I think this movie shed light in that direction.
Glad Oliver Stone till pulled this one off with grand movie - great storyline, amazing actors/actress performance, no fake CG filming locations...it's amazing! A must-see movie for 2010!!!!
The Simpsons: The Fight Before Christmas (2010)
Best Simpsons Xmas Special
Back to Simpsons' trade mark story telling - parody with a twist of reflection of dark side of current events This episodes brings u 4 xmas pardoy stories - each with its own twist. It's like Simpsons Halloween specials with Xmas spirits minus the blood & violence.
Sarcastic, hilarious, pg-13, and yet brings laughter & xmas spirits to all of us.For those who r disappointed with last few episodes, this one won't disappoint u.
Got a feeling that it's time for Fox & the Simpsons production team to deal with contract, $, ... etc. Remember a few episodes back with the opening of china slave camp working in a giant Fox stone castle? In this episode, one of the character says something like "oh well if it's the last season it's a good run".
I know they say that once a while (dunno Y), but if simpsons producers/writers get too frustrated with Fox - just move to another channel like Futurama did. Don't let those bast@rds have it.
Inception (2010)
Nice Try But No Cigar ...
The story concept is a mixed of The Matrix (1999) + The Thirteenth Floor (1999) + Dark City (1998) + Jacob's Ladder (1990) ...
The dream planting idea is from Paprika (2006) The multiple layers of dream idea is from Perfect Blue (1998)
It is a better movie than Shutter Island (2010), but doesn't make it worth all the buzz and box office success. Hollywood, just like any other American culture, is suffocating from all the NWO agendas - thus this mediocre sci-fi generated so much success compared to other "sugar coated" movies that requires 0% of using your brain such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Going the Distance (2010), ... all these movies requires no imagination - pure visual receptions - just like porn.
Maybe that's what the movie bosses want these days - further dumping down the population till they have no intellect to speak their minds, to think for themselves, just become a pack of sheep.
If you are disappointed like me, go watch Perfect Blue (1998) Paprika (2006) Esp the first one, the best psycho-thriller anime/film I've ever seen
The Ghost Writer (2010)
Ninth Gate II?!
Surprised that Polanski will go after the Brit instead of USA. Hope he didn't loose his balls & guts b/c of the rape charges US lay on him 30 yrs back then.
It's 60 minutes I'm watching the movie and it's not as good as Ninth Gate. Too much details not related to the theme of the movie. It's dragging.
Great casting on Pierce Brosnan, Kim Cattrall & Jon Bernthal. Ewan McGregor once again was acting like a weak, wimpy, whinny, idiotic & clueless still living in his childhood, as he did in Island & other movies. I hope it doesn't reflect onto Mr. Polanski's personalities in any ways.
Best of luck with Mr. Polanski's legal troubles, I feel it's another Tyranny's ideal to shut him up about WW2.5 & NWO.
Do one NWO film already!!!
The Wolfman (2010)
Simple, Straightforward, but beautifully made
Maybe the producers didn't expect much from the audience. This movie could be so much more than a visually entertaining candy movie. It could be a psychological thriller like ancient unsolved serial killers roaming around Germany during the dark age.
A shame that the movie production company were too chicken to gamble on something outside of the box. Still kudos to the acting performances from all the actors and actresses - they made this movie entertaining despite predictable screenplay.
Someone out there should do a ancient time serial killer movie already! Like Guy Richie's Sherlock Holmes (2010), think outside of the box and you'll have an instant classic that people appreciate it!
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009)
Reality Is Your Imagination Came True
It's not the Angel & Devil playing tricks to us...
It's your own choosing...
To be, or not do be, that's the question.
The same burning sun shines on us daily to everyone, it's your action that makes the difference - you may choose to sleep in or wake up and do the best out of it Insightful, Brilliantly showing truth in life with visual effects & story telling.
Mass Destruction, Y2k, 9/11, Financial Collapse, Global Warming Tax, Iran Nuclear Threat, ... on and on US has been pulling out tricks after tricks
But like President Obama said, we shall not live under threat, we shall focus on what we belief and go for it.
In Post WWII, one shall be tough. In this post y2k era, we shall believe, like Anton & Percy in the movie.
Futurama (1999)
Futurama - Welcome Back!!! Bender kick ass!!!
I admit I'm a die hard fan of the Simpsons and didn't support Futurama subliminally so Simpsons won't go off the air so soon.
I did watch a few episodes of Futurama and didn't get the jokes... I guessed I mostly caught their "bad" episodes. Now that I watched the DVD again, it's so amazing and different that gave me the same surprise, entertainment, joy that I got when I first saw the Simpsons, South Park, even a few Family Guys episodes (a few that they didn't try to be the new Simpsons).
It's simply revolutionary amazing - the script was so well written that it belongs to actual movie categories. Maybe that's why I didn't know how to respond to such smart, mature scripts that one only expects from actual movies. It's more like actual sci-fi movie.
Yes, the writers did screw up in season 3 after episodes 7...& all season 4 (except episodes 7, 8, 12). However, when they're good, they're phenomenal. The scrips, when they're good, they're as good as Stephen Spielberg's movies. It's insane.
Make sure you watch their movies as well, especially the first one. It's 2 hours+ long but it's as good as it gets.
With all the episodes I enjoy, I'll give them a 98% !!! p.s. key to enjoy Futurama is to watch it on a lazy weekend, w/o much interruptions as possible.
Hurray on their come back in June this year!!!! Futurama kicks ass, just like the Simpsons, but in their own way!!!!
Futurama: Bender's Big Score (2007)
Wow what a script!
I watched this movie b/c ran out of Futurama episodes - wow! I was impressed. Especially it's a Hollywood production (USA) production.
It's filled with sci-fi, drama, romance - in a nice, natural way! I didn't like Futurama first, b/c I was still emotionally attached to the Simpsons.
But seriously, Futurama is a different breed of adult animation - with wits, sense of humor, in your face nerdy sci-fi elements, sarcasm that you can't find anywhere.
Family Guy and her league of copy-cat can take a hike - they just don't have talents like Goeing & Cohen.
Hail Goeing & Cohen for their everlasting creativeness!!!
Killer Bean Forever (2008)
Funny, Exciting, Good Script, Entertaining
Haha when I first saw the poster, I thought it's kind of childish and lame.
But then the first act took me by surprise.
The conspiracy development gets even better and better. Yes, it's predictable in a sense.
But for the budget and the production, I say kudos to the movie maker.
It's nice to see something different coming out of Hollywood.
Nice touch with the Mexican accent from the crime boss. It's not racist, just stereotype & funny but not disrespectful.
All in all, you should see this movie =)
Identity (2003)
Creative plagiarism = new idea
If you think Shutter Island ripped off Identity, then you should also watch Twilight Zone 1985 Season 1 Episode 56 - Shadow Play.
What's good about Identity or other movies with new adaptation is that it puts in new theories and thus became a new movie.
This psychological/psychoanalytical thriller is not a new genre, but definitely a comeback trend according to recent releases.
For those enjoy this genre, I would recommend a few classics: -Psycho(1960)
-Sybil (1976)
-Angel Heart (1987) (re-make coming up)
-American Psycho (2000) -Machinist (2004)
-Psychiatry: An Industry of Death (2006)
-A Mulher Invisível (2009) (English Title: The Invisible Woman)
-À la folie...pas du tout (2002) (Eng Title: He loves me, He loves me not)
-Lucía yel sexo (2001) (Eng Title: Sex & Lucia)
All these movies visualize our psychic - brings you down the rabbit hole so to speak. That's the best way I could put it. Enjoy ~
The Matrix (1999)
Red Pill - Twilight Zone 1985 S01E02 "Dream For Sale"
The Wachowski brothers are very bright and borrowed lots of ideas from different philosophies, religions ... etc.
When I first watched Matrix I the first time, the first 20 mins of it was the most thrill I had from movies.
Little did I know it's idea was borrowed from Twilight Zone S01E02 - Dream For Sale.
Kudos to them to expand this little idea and apply it to elaborate different ideas such as human & machine relationships, reality & senses, ... etc.
Kudos to the twilight zone writer Joe Gannon as well, that clip was very entertaining & creative.
Martyrs (2008)
Psychological, Visual Thriller with Taste
Yes it is a gore movie, but it's not Stephen king's horror novel that ran out of tricks and decided to gross you out so you won't complain.
This movie got several themes, the main one is hinted by the title.
It is the most daring movie, but the script justified the visual violence.
I'm surprised, yet pleased, that this movie is a Quebec, Canada movie. Most people think movies made in Canada / Quebec is too traditional to the point it is boring. Yet they conjure up this little flick that is quite a pleasant surprise.
p.s. this movie is at least 10 times more gore than Peter Jackson's "Lovely Bones", yet I didn't get the sickness or grotesque feeling I had after watching Lovely Bones.
It's a pity a great movie maker such as Peterson got a tainted movie like that. Hope he'll recover soon.
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009)
Surprisingly terrific piece of work in so many ways
#1) Visually entertaining #2) Vampires with werewolf & freaks?! Nice! #3) Superb screenplay from the novel - better than twilight as it tries not to be cool about everything with vampire, which makes it a more mature piece of work #4) It got its own universe - like harry potter, it got vampaneze, freaks, vampire assistants .... We could definitely use these to vent out from this crazy world/news/propaganda about The Rothschild Banking Empire trying to spill hate & greed to enslave every last souls in the world ... #5) The story is so good that it makes me wanna read the novel / audiobooks
All in all, this is next to Avatar in recent months =) Great Movie! Go see it!
Veronika Decides to Die (2009)
Simply terrific
It's a movie worth watching b/c it guides you to search your soul in this crazy world.
Kudos to Sarah Michelle Gellar's performance & her agent landing her this movie. Last time I had the chance to view her performance was Grudge 2 and wow she became a serious actress in this one.
Maybe it's the director dared to tone down to sell our her blond pretty girl image. Instead, giving her a chance to be an actress.
Terrific script as it dares to asks us what's the meaning of life, love, reality, ... etc I am as impressed with this script as I was with "He loves me, he loves me not" Terrific music as well. Kudos to the producer to put out this amazing movie during this time of sci-fi, shock em all, trash comedy, soft porn / comedy Hollywood junk food movies
It deserves Oscar or other serious film award. At least nominations!!! Just to show Americans are not lame and stupid!!!
Zombieland (2009)
Simply boring ....
First time in my life, I was bored by a zombie movie!!! Omfg, script is totally predictable. Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus) was trying to act like Michael Cera (Evan) in Superbad (2007) throughout the whole movie.
If that's not painful enough, the whole movie was about 4 people driving around on hwy!!!! No horror scenes, no smart zombie, no mutated zombies ... sigh I personally think that the screenwriter and the director are actually zombie - with their dim wit messed up head. How on earth could a stupid movie get made? American likes stupid fu#$ed up products like this one. They voted bush families for presidents, paying $500 for iphones, ... etc.
Seems like the only hope for movies these days are french / Spanish movies. Keep movies insightful, intriguing and inspiring with imaginations and courage to tell us what you think!!!!
Jacob's Ladder (1990)
What is reality? What is dream? What is subconscious?
Ever felt like you are loosing grip with reality that you need shopping to get in touch with reality? Wondering if its the "news" aka. New World Order propaganda? Or someone at work or evil jealousy relatives messed up your head recently?
Jacob, a divorcée who lost his only child, trying to live his live after returning from Vietnam war shared more than your feelings and started to have hallucination. Flashbacks to the war time started to get more and more frequent.
Little did he know that he was actually living between life and death - in Limbo. Where he had to live with demons and lost souls. As if it's not enough with Jacob to deal with these paranoids in the limbo that he wasn't aware of, he had to go through some WWII experimental drugs lawsuits.
How's Jacob gonna get through his short, chaotic, struggling "life"? Well, pretty much like all of us, just take it like a man!!! In my humble opinion, this is one of the most well written movie in "alternative reality" genre!!!! Where the writer and director got the guts/go-ahead to show their non-traditional views out there. Movies like this opened the doors to recent great movies in the same genre such as Identity, The Ninth Gate, ... etc.
Hope you enjoyed this movie as much as I did!
2012 (2009)
Propaganda for New World Order Global Tax
It's sad to see Hollywood serves the US government (New World Order Government) like a grown up woman dressing up like a Britney Spears & entertain her uncle for his insurance money.
This movie has absolutely no basis of scientific facts, just to scare people into doing whatever the UN tell you to do. It's a movie to drum up the Copenhagen Conference to scam countries' leaders to sign their damn contract to pay global tax $ to build the NWO government.
How stupid is it that you are paying someone to build a government to enslave you or build another giant furnace to burn 2/3 of your own people.
For those who really want to find out the truth about global warming / greenhouse, read Levitt's new book "Superfreakonomics"
V for Vendetta (2005)
No Berlusconi Day.......Wachowski Brothers the prophets?
At the news today I saw protesters wearing Fausto masks! Which reminded me of this movie. I didn't like it the first time I watched it.
While cleaning up my apt, I played it again. This time I was paying attention to the movie instead of the blond date I had last time.
The scary thing is, hoping that it's just Wachowski brothers saw what was coming and smart enough to foretell the future, a lot of cynical things that governments all around the world is doing exactly what the government in the movie was - running a 1 party government, lying to the people, ex-CEO running high political positions, and now the H1N1 flu.
Did they steal ideas from movies like this? Or they're just too predictable? Either way, I'm glad the Wachowski brothers wrote such a brilliant movie. Way better than so called "Oscar nominated movies" such as Precious. This one is thought provoking!!! Protesters should all wear Fausto masks!!! And yes it is better than the Matrix! The whole movie is as good as the Matrix I (before Neo wakes up)!!!
Duk haan yum cha (2006)
500 Days Of Summer Stole Idea From This Film!!!!
This movie is about love in modern age era - 3 guys trying to find love. Instead of sugar coating the story, it basically tells you like it is - love is brutal, unpredictable, what you get is not proportional to what you give, yet a lot of people still spend most of their time & energy pursuing it.
What's unique about this movie is the way it presents the story - comedic with a lots of non-CG effects to visualize emotions of people who are in love. Script was excellent - authentic Hong Kong lifestyle, entertaining way to bring out drama/romance. For those who had similar experience like the main character, it will certainly brings out some memories & show some insights into "meaning of love life".
Directed by Lam Tze-Chung (Fatty from Kung Fu Soccer), it shows how talented he was. The sad part is that Hong Kong film industry seems to care about who you know rather than what you can bring to the table. A talented director like him should focus his efforts in making movies. Maybe he should move to mainland China like Wong Jing and makes more HQ movies like this one.
Tai fong lo chin (2006)
One of Wong Jing's Best Movie
This is one of Wong Jing's serious movie - that he successfully brought up the theme about "Con & Karma". It was a great movie because it simply was written very well - characters got layers, storyline is mature & believable. I haven't seen any movies as good as this one in this genre. Probably because most movie goers these days are getting younger and only look for visual effects with big explosions, yelling & screaming, lots of actions ... etc. Sigh!!! They are missing out big time. For those who appreciate Hong Kong movies / movies with mature themes, it is a must-see!!! I personally admired Wong Jing as a Script Writer & Director & a Film Maker - he makes movie that is entertaining & profitable to investors. Some Hong Kong movie directors, such as Yee Tung-Sing, criticized his works as poor taste, non-educational and pollute Hong Kong film industry. They are both good directors and film makers - just have different styles and purposes. Wong Jing's ultimate purpose in making movies is to make money for investors while make a movie that entertains audience, while Yee makes movies to bring up social conscience about certain issues. Wong Jing's movies get more revenues for sure, hands down!!! Wong Jing recently moved to China and hopefully, it would give him more freedom to make more mature movies like this one. Good luck Master Film Maker Wong Jing!!!
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)
Season II - Am I the only one disappointed so far?
Why is season II story so immature compared to season I???!!!! All the Jedi are arrogant, whiny & lousy in their judgments. Is it how they show the Jedi are loosing their touch to the Force?! Or George bush wrote the scripts this season? Hmm...
* 2 Master Jedi can't stop a bounty hunter break into their temple & let him stole the listing; 2 Jedi can't handle droids .... * "He got away again?" ... "The important thing is ... " Doesn't it sound like some sci-fi politician shenanigans?
The story is as immature as some afternoon soap operas. Plz don't screw this up like the 2003 series again.
Crossing my fingers that the following episodes won't be stinky b/c I like this series very much so far.
I like what the episode 3 lies ahead - Lord Sithus trying to bring up young lings ... HM... maybe they can write some scripts to shed some lights to the dark side... Why so few of them and they broke the Jedi order so successfully?!
Public Enemies (2009)
Authentic like "The Untouchable (1987)", exciting like "Heat (1995)"
Director Micheal Mann charmed the Hollywood stars and got lots of great actors & actresses in this movie. Can't say I'll blame them after phenomenal success of Heat (1985), The Insider (1999) - great directors like Mann, Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese don't make movies very often and rightly so for the sake of good script & quality.
This movie is authentic, got lots of exciting scenes that make ur palms wet, and brought lots of hardship, desparations, spirits of the post depression period. And some underground history as well.
An unforgettable movie of recent years.
Simply outstanding!
Kudos to Christina Bale! A good actor like him deserve a project to be in the same movie like Johnny Depp, esp after the disaster T4.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
A movie truly a whole family can enjoy
For kids, they can enjoy the pirates outfits, fight scenes, and Asian exotic settings.
For adults, they can enjoy the script that talks about honor, changing world, love, destiny, meaning of life ... etc.
One famous Hong Kong director (Wong Jing, whose recent hit was "I Corrupt All Cops") suggested Cptn Sao Feng's (Chow-Yun Fat) costume design is racist and his participation in it is a disgrace to his own people. I cannot disagree more.
There are good guys and bad guys characters in this film - his character happens to be a bad guy, so of course his costume design got to give a "bad guy" impression to the audience. Furthermore, his role is a second or third tier of actors/actresses - he can't dress up like a prince from the east and steal the main characters' thunder. Lastly, betraying is a tradition in the pirates world, according to the storyline, thus his betrayal to his fellow pirates doesn't reflect any ethic values. Instead, it shows how the government likes to use the betray tactic to create wars among the pirates. Concerning his performance, he got better performance opportunity in this movie than "Dragon Balls: Evolution" and he did a great job. If not better than other actors'.
Orphan (2009)
Boring, Unoriginal, Old Dog out of tricks
I left the movie after 20 mins, this is how boring it is. Some called it building up the suspense. I call it a hollow script based on nothing that doesn't need 1.5 hrs to tell the story.
Director wasted the first 20 mins to show you a few things: woman lost her baby, she got a deaf daughter, got a architech husband, worked at harvard but got kicked out b/c of alcoholism. That took 20 mins!!! After my cigarate break, washroom break, calling on my cell for the next 15 mins, a kid got adopted. Then I decided I gave enough credits of doubts to the director and enjoyed my nap nap in on the coach.
Then someone woke me up when the kid's real identity was revealed. Sadly, it's just a cheap Hollywood gimick stole the core idea from a french movie "He loves me, he loves me not" (À la folie... pas du tout (2002)).
Totally disappointed and waste of time. DO NOT RENT DVD OR DOWNLOAD. Waste of money, time, & bandwidth
