Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)
A politically influenced betrayal of the original
"Joker 2" isn't just disappointing-it's an outright travesty. What was once a raw, gritty exploration of societal rage and alienation has been neutered into a shameful, politically influenced spectacle. The original film, which was one of the most powerful and daring productions of its time, is now reduced to a lifeless, watered-down, and overly produced shadow of itself. This sequel feels more like a forced correction, bowing to external pressures, and turning what should have been a continuation of a bold narrative into a hollow political musical. The heart of the character and story has been completely lost.
Witte Wieven (2024)
Amazing work
"Witte Wieve," directed by Didier Konings, stands out as an exceptional piece within the Dutch indie film scene, particularly considering its modest budget.
The film boasts A-grade cinematography and visual effects, alongside compelling performances that vividly bring the narrative to life. Its atmosphere and scene setting are meticulously crafted, enhancing the authenticity of the ancient Dutch dialect used, which adds depth to the storytelling. This film not only showcases the potential of its creative team but also builds anticipation for future projects from Konings, especially with the prospect of higher budget productions on platforms like Netflix or Prime.
The Crowded Room (2023)
Fantastic. The world needs more of this.
Always baffled by people rating an amazing show like this a 1 - 5 which shows you clearly aren't providing a genuine review, at least not one to take seriously nor worthy of anyone's time.
Now for the actual review. Great story, even better told. The narrative structure is very well designed. In the current 'content abundance' it's become challenging for to find a new and compelling film or series - so when once in a while something like this comes along I'm grateful.
Furthermore, amazing casting and direction - all the actors have done an amazing job and the acting of frankly anyone in the show is absolutely natural. And oh boy, Tom, I kind of had a standing ovation moment for Holland's performance at some point in the series.
Although the storyline is complex, hardly any mistakes were made and the attention to detail is great. To people complaining about stigmatization: I get you, but I believe you don't consider the fact that it's raising awareness about it to millions - or take it too lightly. It got me interested to dive deeper into the subject and wanting to understand it better. In my brief research so far, I haven't found anything that supports the claim of stigmatization, so I'd be happy to understand these claims better.
I don't know about you (reading this), but I certainly need more of these slow pace, well written, naturally performed, call it 'intellectual' shows (and films).
