It's meant to be a different series than the original. Give this one a watch. It's a powerful show that promotes acceptance and tolerance while still maintaining the supernatural elements. The film noir and detective story add a unique angle to it.
This is Nathan Lane like you've never seen him before on screen. Drama really suits him, and I hope he gets to do more. He plays Lewis Michener with so much grace and bravado. For fans of Nathan Lane, this is really a must watch, because he's capable of more than just comedy. There are dark and emotional scenes that make Lewis a very compelling character.
Wonderful family dynamics too with Daniel Zovatto's character and his siblings and also his mom (wonderfully played by Adriana Barraza) . Natalie Dormer in four different roles is exquisite. Michael Gladis as the villainous Councilman Townsend also stands out.
Overall, this is a powerful show that deserves more seasons. Wonderful acting, writing and directing!

As a massive fan of "The Lion King" trilogy - including its sequel and midquel "Simba's Pride" and "The Lion King 1 1/2" - I wasn't sure what to think when the live action version was announced, knowing Disney remakes can be hits or misses. But I decided to treat this 2019 version as just another addition to "The Lion King" universe like the Broadway production.
To my surprise, I found it to be very watchable. While it's a shot-by-shot CGI remake, it has some updated dialogues and extended scenes that many of us hope the original would've shown. Plus the new cast line-up is quite decent, almost as epic as the original film cast.
Billy Eichner really stood out in my book. He has been getting lots of praises on social media, and I completely agree. Timon made one of my favorite actors Nathan Lane a star back in 1994 and opened up many doors for him in film (he's now a Broadway legend with three Tony wins), and Nathan's performance will always be iconic. But Billy gave Timon his own soulful twist. His comedic timing with Seth Rogen as Pumbaa is spot on. Just like Nathan and Ernie Sabella (the original Pumbaa), Billy and Seth are real-life friends, making Timon and Pumbaa a solid duo once again. As an added bonus, Billy has a stunning singing voice. This is like a wonderful vehicle for him and will hopefully get him starring roles in movies.
Personally, I'm down for a "The Lion King 1 1/2" and "Simba's Pride" remake. The photorealism concept of this 2019 version gives off an environmental message like the new cast have been saying, which is very positive.
I can say that out of all the Disney remakes, "The Lion King" is my top fave. It will never top the original obviously, but it's a decent addition to "The Lion King" universe.

Just like the classic "Charmed", this new version does promote sisterhood, diversity and female empowerment, which we always need in today's TV shows, but Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige from the original series will always be superior. The biggest mistake this show did was calling itself "Charmed". It could've been just a new witchy show featuring an all-new trio with a completely different title. Borrowing the "Charmed" brand is simply pointless, and of course the original show's fanbase is going to get riled up. As a big "Charmed" fan who owns the Book of Shadows DVD set for all 8 seasons, soundtracks and official magazines, I remember most of us campaigned for a spin-off with Piper's boys Wyatt and Chris and the new generation of Halliwells. The CW could've went with that. Or at least it could've given "Supernatural" the feminist spin-off fans deserve with "Wayward Sisters" instead of a second rate version of "Charmed". "Wayward Sisters" would've expanded upon the "Supernatural" universe. This show does not have any connection with the first "Charmed" series but still calls itself that. It's actually quite decent, but it will never be the original.
