Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Sayonara Godzilla
Yes, why not? Take a 90 minute long drama and add 30 minute of Godzilla in between and you will get a Godzilla drama movie. Not what I expected, but drama really has priority here. Even some kind of romance/love story. Sorry, but this is not what I was looking for, nor can I apprehend all the hype and good ratings and critics about this film. The drama parts aren't that original or sophisticated, they rather feel like they are all placeholders to reach the 2 hour mark.
Yes, the film does have some good looking scenes and Godzilla action but that's also not really original in my eyes. "Been there, done that" comes in mind.
What's also annoying is the exaggerated portrayal of heroism and patriotism, and maybe even solidarity. Often the soundtrack, except for some obvious exceptions, is also quite uninspired. So was the acting, it looked like way too less use of gestures in dialogues and maybe something else too.
Sorry, all in all this was a big disappointment. But here's a little compensation for you: so many modern movies are!
A Murder at the End of the World (2023)
A Drama at the End of my Patience
Usually never watching any mini series, but they're often entertaining and enjoyable. AMATEOTW made sure I'll stick to my beloved movies from now on: no more TV shows, no more miniseries until something really well made and interesting shows up.
So this is whodunit mystery thriller they say. Yeah, it's really "thrilling" - until it gets boring, until more drama scenes show up, until it's interrupted by another flash back scene. Yawn!
As so often, there is potential but it's not fully exhausted. I understand AI is still a hot topic, and it will be for an indefinite time, but AI is still far away from being perfect or at least "very good", since perfect is always impossible. However, that's no reason to make a cheap, lengthy and often ridiculous 6-7 hours movie out of it. I get it that the creators had a message in mind when making this, but to disguise this as a psychologial mystery thriller when there's drama and even romance all over it is just inacceptable. Maybe this could have worked 20 years ago, but now is the wrong time. I guess I prefer older movies as old as Agatha Christie film versions. Other movies featuring AI are mostly way different than AMATEOTW and should be treated differently of course. Movies like "TAU" (2018), "Ex Machina" (2014), "I, Robot" (2004) etc. Even "Her" (2013) was great, although it's a romantic drama.
All in all, there was not much liked, but at least the location was kinda interesting. Tech stuff was only superficial at best. The acting by the lead actress was okay, but I was disappointed by Clive Owen. He did much better in older movies.
Eileen (2023)
Eileen
Congratulation! You win the prize for the most boring mystery thriller, one that never thrills at all!
I am so sick of new movies, but I should really only watch older ones or good ones again.
This is a mystery drama at best, not a thriller. And I hate dramas. Therefore I was bored and yawning, puzzled by so many other good reviews everywhere.
What's not bad, but also far from good: soundtrack, and acting by Marin Ireland and Shea Whigham (give the man an Oscar already!).
The rest was just bad:
- boring script/staging (superficial, not psychological interesting)
- low budget
- hideous visuals/filters combined poor camera work
- lacks of style/ideas/action/younameit
Perfect to fall asleep though, YUCK!
They Cloned Tyrone (2023)
They Cloned Boredom
It's a clever movie they say. Yeah, it's superficial, lengthy, ridiculous and hideous.
Wasted potential on the plot, bad acting, unsuitable soundtrack, boring locations/visuals, brainless dialogues but then there's humor right? Right: come out, come out. Wherever you are !?
So unthrilling, so tedious, so unfunny it hurts! What did people like so much to praise this film? I don't get it. You just wish it is finally over so you can smile because you know once this garbage is over there absolutely zero need to do a rewatch anytime ever later.
But hey, for those who like "clever" movies with braindead dialogues plagued with profanity profanity profanity... go for it! Or, buy a brain...
Reptile (2023)
Reptile
Maybe the director should stick to much shorter music videos again. Maybe the first 90 minutes should have been designed more interesting, it was a loooong snore I almost quit...
Maybe Justin Timberlake shouldn't try acting anymore (hey director, why not direct his new music videos? New music? Hmm...)
Maybe the camera filter, all-in-all image composition, locations, costumes etc. Should have been totally different.
Maybe this should be called a drama instead of "thriller". Maybe Benicio del Toro and Alicia Silverstone were the only reason I watched this, and I really can't recommend it.
Maybe the ending was good, but what do I know :)
Speak No Evil (2022)
Show No Evil
Hooray! You disguised a typical redneck horror movie as a social drama. Just with a long, boring intro, slow plot development and unusal ending. Hooray! 2 anarchist parents and 2 stiffs as parents, with the latter showing illogical and often laughable behavior sold as "social satire"? Hooray! Award winning, barely-90-minutes-long superficial pseudo-psychological "thriller" wrapped in hideous visuals/location except for the Italy part. Even the music (if any) is way too often misplaced and just doesn't fit. $ 3 million production money wasted for what? I can make the same film with $ 100K. But hooray! This is what modern, hastily made garbage flicks are like nowadays. But yeah, let's all praise the acting (meh!), the dark theme of a new oh-so-original story and blah blah. There was nothing I liked because the movie ruined everything itself. Good news for all fans though: an US remake is coming later this year. Personally, I can't wait to skip it.
Sorry, but yet again another big disappointment. Why? "BECAUSE YOU LET ME!" :)
Cocaine Shark (2023)
"Cocaine Bear" was trash, now what is this? Super trash!
Without watching I give 1/10 star just because you copied the idea and obviously made a low budget trash movie out of it. Well failed! You already can tell the acting is mediocre at best and the movie has low budget written all over it, along with at best mediocre camera work, script, soundtrack and so on and so on. How about originality? How about a parody? But no, this is clearly yet another trash movie with so-called clickbait title and even the poster already tells it all: low budget garbage. Even can't manage it to be 90 minutes long with just 76 minutes. Why not make a 30 minutes short movie filled with action instead? Mission failed...
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Marvel superhero garbage meets STAR WARS on drugs, or worse
Why so many liked it and why it was a box office success is well beyond me. This movie got nothing but an nonstop CGI orgy with pale actors acting badly, a laughable "story" and everything else to do their worst. It's a miracle I finished watching, wanted to stop after 30 minutes. Unfortunately it only got worse...
Humor? Groot please! YAWN!!! Poor dialouges, even bad language and the usual violence and special effetcs - nothing will surprise you. But hey, why not? A movie by braindeads for braindeads sound like a big win/win situation. Let's make the most (money) of it now!
I will definitely not watch any more Marvel and any more of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY sequels including spin offs which might appear out of nowhere. Which is very likely due to UNDESERVED success, and for the fact that Marvel can't stop milking the cash cow, so they simple have to make more movies out of every tiny bit of their Marvel universium and its dozens of characters. And then more sequels of course, with like none has a bit of originality, everything has been there already, no matter how much more CGI they use.
So yes, this is only for teens. So teens, listen: stop supporting this madness and rely on other action/scifi, ones made with love, with art, with less than 95% CGI. Marvel will just make you stupid, but since you're in your teens, you simply don't know better. Not your fault, but please:look for new horizons! Thank you!
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
The Killing of my Sacred Patience
The best thing about this movie is the camera work/cinematography, next to the acting work of the charater Martin, and yet there is like nothing else to underline with positive words. Why?
This movie is lengthy, artsy-fartsy, superficial, wrongly addressed as "horror", "thriller" and even ridiculous in its second half. Why?
2 hours is too long for such a movie which turns out to be superficial. 90 minutes would have been enough. The use of classic music along with the neat camera work won't make it an unforgetable movie experience. The music even felt inapproriate in most places. Don't get me wrong, classic music can be great if used properly.
It's said to be of the horror/psychological thriller, but it's not. The psychological part is way too superficial. I'd rather say it's simply a drama (which I usually dislike/not watch and therefore regretted to watch this movie).
Then the behavior of the.whole Murphy family is mostly illogical, stupid or laughable in the second half of the film. Even well-known actors like Farrell, Kidman and Silverstone (too short screentime for the latter) can't save it, because their acting is poor in my eyes. The Murphy kids acting was ok though.
If I'd have known this is much more a drama than any kind of horror/thriller I wouldn't have watched it. Too bad I never watch trailers or read too much info about movies before watching them to shoo away all kinds of spoilers.
All in all, and even for a drama, I think it's just way too overrated because I wasn't thrilled/entertained or happy with this outcome.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Boring Bear
Lol yeah, what the f? The excessive use of profanity in this movie is ridiculous - just like the screenplay. Along with tiring side plots and pale actors lacking any kind of witty humor or character. Then you get stupid behavior and trite "jokes" and dialogue. I had zero laughs, yawn! Typical modern movie "diseases", feels hastily made, lacks of originality, style, decent acting and what not. Also predictable and full of clichees. Even the soundtrack is meh! Actually surprised this "comedy" "thriller" was a little box office success and the majority of people consider it worth watching/entertaining/favourable. What the heck is wrong with you all? #idiocracy (!) Unbelievable...
All in all this film is pathetic and can be considered trash. I wonder what the budget of over $ 30 million (!) was used if not for exaggereted fees for the oh-so-boring actors and a little CGI. Yawn!
Better luck next try with a better screenplay. Oh wait, better not! Haha! Mrs. Banks, you should consider sticking to acting instead of directing more nonsense like this. FACEPALM.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Boring Dead Rise
What's positive for horror fans: the use of blood & gore, camera work/cinematography and music and sound effects. Besides that, well...
So besides that you get a film full of clichees, seen-that's, goofs with random actors doing stupid things all the time or motionlessly standing around, boring dialogues, questionable plot and even the worst costume designs I have ever seen in a movie (just noticing). Those "features" easily outweigh the positive aspects of the movie which leads that I would not recommend this movie to anyone. It's a "watch once, then forget" movie at best. I know it's a franchise and I haven't seen the 2013 "Evil Dead", but now I know I won't watch that one - even though it was not written and directed by Lee Cronin.
Why mentioning Cronin? Well I already heavily dislike his 2019 film "The Hole in the Ground" - which is another garbage movie in my eyes. Will try to avoid his future works as well. OKTHANKSBYE!
Wicked Games (2021)
Lousy Games
I really wanted to like this. But then there were so many flaws which screws it up for me. Where to start?
The camera work was very awful, often shaky, often too close, sometimes blurry and there is no use of any filter or something to give it some more style or atmosphere. It felt like amateur filmer or almost like found-footage.
Then you have action scenes/stunts OFF SCREEN or poorly executed. Then there are pale actors with boring dialogues, stupid behavior or they are missing at all. Where were they? Oh I know, they rather liked to spent time celebrating at the set as seen in the little "making of" at the end. Or was that just a filler? Because the movie itself is barely 73 minutes long, yet starting too slow with off topic nonsense. Character setups? Non-existant.
The plot actually sounded not new, but could've worked if properly exectued. And yet you get "plot holes" leaving you with ??? In your face.
The music was not bad, but the location - the manor - was the best star in the whole movie. Even though it's empty and lacks of atmosphere.
What's funny is the fact that most people rate this 6+ here, while "RAVAGE" aka "SWING LOW" only has 4,9 currently here - a film I liked much better than this. Sorry "WICKED GAMES", that was way too less action and cinematography for me. Not really horror, not really thrilling - just poor, a dissappointment.
How about some "FUNNY GAMES", "FUNNY GAMES U. S.", "THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT", "THE STRANGERS" and so on and so on instead?
THIS one here needs a remake, even though it's "new". Get it? ;)
Infinity Pool (2023)
Infinite pool of boredom
Yawn! Yet another modern trash movie that tries too hard, but never delivers. I am so sick of it! Lengthy offtopic scenes starring pale, superficial characters acting dumb almost all the time. Poorly written, badly executed and covered with music that as "random" written all over. Not to forget all the ridiculous moments which make you want to facepalm every time.
I guess I should just stick to older movies from the 80,s 90s and early this millenia instead of getting disappointed by some more new pseudo-art for the toilet flicks. Oh and no more Mia Goth for me, I simply can't stand it to see her, hear her anymore. Yikes!
Rewatchable? Don't make me laugh! Been there, done that. Yawn!
The Hole in the Ground (2019)
The Hole in the Plot
Yay, yet another modern film with the same illnesses that so many other newish movies have: low budget, random actors, stupid behavior by main actress, lengths, boredom, unoriginality, clichees and what not.
The first hour is much more like a social drama instead of a horrorthriller, then you get like 5% horror/thrills and then it's over. So 95% drama sold as a horrorthriller, thanks for nothing. I hate dramas!
Without all the lengthy character "developing" and drama in its first hour the film would have been like 30 minutes long only. Yeah, why not make a short film then? (facepalm) Very disappointing!
The best was the atmospheric music/sounds and camera work/cinematography with serious colors and nothing too colorful, great! But that's way too less to save it...
Also, rewatchablity is like 0%. As so often this film is yet another (yaaaaawn!) example of wasted potential. Better "luck" next try...
The Bunker Game (2022)
The Bunker Game
Wow this movie is perfect! A perfect example of badness, because this is a yet another modern movie that likes to fulfill many criteria of bad modern movies: low budget, feeling quickly made, stupid plot, nothing new, lacking of witty dialogues, lacking of atmosphere, lacking of style, lacking of acting and so on and so on...
What's wrong with you people? Seriously, WHAT is it? Horror/thriller you say? YAAAAAWN! It's a drama, and not even a good one. And also a drama to watch. Filmmakers should pay people to watch it, not the other way around. I can't believe I finished this forgetable trash and would advise everyone NOT to watch it ever.
Hashtag #IDIOCRACY (2006) <----get it?
The Final Girls (2015)
The Final Girls - let it be final, no sequel(s)
So disappointing, is it horror? No! Is it comedy? No! It's just cheesy and stupid with a lot of boredom, because it wasn't thrilling and funny enough it.
It doees have a few good ideas like being dragged into an old cult classic movie, slowmotion, flashback but then? That's it then! Lacks of witty ideas, lacks of blood, lacks of adult humor. It's just all childish and dumb, full of clichees and seen-before's. Too bad!
Music was awful, excessive use of colors was laughable, acting is mediocre at best, story is ridiculous and poorly executed. So what's good?
Cinematography was kinda neat, has a few nice camera trackings but then it's also too obviously low budget. Also too obvious use of special effects to save money (more money for greedy actors/staff eh?) like the car crash etc.
A good example of WASTED potential, a pity! I was not amused the whole time. Hands off...
Berlin Syndrome (2017)
Berlin Syndrome - BS, and you know what BS also means...
Lol really? Yet another poor low budget movie which is badly written and executed. Mystery, horror? No way, it's drama all the way. It's lengthy and utterly stupid.
Why?
The plot summary has a huge potential, but is just not used in any witty way. What you get is totally boring and irrational/illogical behavior of the two main actors. Nothing new as well, nothing original. And completely forgettable after watching. It was a miracle I finished watching this trash - only to check out if there is some sense somehow somewhere, but there is not until the very end - which is just way too less to call this work a good movie. It's awfully bad. And that's the tragically problem with most modern movies, they all look low budget (unless they use CGI excessively), lack of WITTY dialogues/plots, feel all hastily made and so on and so on...
Why does it feel like nobody else noticed? Why do people rate this with 6 or higher here which makes it look like it's a decent, watchable movie? What is the frigging matter with people nowadays? All mentally ill like in "IDIOCRACY" (2006) ??? It's beyond me...
SPOILERS:
When being trapped in an apartment full of interior and all there is no way to escape while being alone? Don't make me laugh! Prisoner gets bored and instead of finding a way out she does a puzzle, does her nails and stuff. Lol ?
A mobile phone without SIM card can always call a emergency number to get help. Lol ???
What a pain in the a.....
Barbarian (2022)
Barbarian (2022)
Lol seriously??? I cannot understand why the majority of critics praise this trash. To me it's YET ANOTHER (overrated) pseudo horror flick that has nothing to offer. It's slow, it's lame and unsophisticated. Not to forgot how STUPID it is the the majority of screen time. Why? Random unlikeable actors without skill show utterly silly, irrational, illogial behavior at all times. Any character! It's so bad, it hurts. Like PITA you know?
Also, YET ANOTHER movie which feels hastily made like shot by students during a weekend. It also lacks of originality and style, feeling very low budget. I am surprised it took hundreds of people involved to create such trash. It even further surprises me that most of the people actually like it. For what? Excessive strong language in lame, simplistic dialogues or monologues ? Non-existent horror? Non-existent humor? I don't get it. I would go so far to say that any sane human would feel like I do now after watching this "movie". If not: wake up people? WHAT is WRONG with you? WHERE are deccent horror films these days? Even the music sucks. It's all just pathetic, sorry! (Or am I?)
I am so sick and tired of this garbage that I only give 1 out of 10 stars for the first time now. Although I truly believe that no movie could be as bad as 1/10, but this madness has to stop...
Lights Out (2016)
Lights Out - yeah, exactly!
Besides Teresa Palmer's performance, music and some very few jump scares this is yet another low budget and forgettable film with many flaws.
Flaws are illogical behavior, predictable plot and boring scenes all over the place. The movie even can't pass the 90 minutes mark so there is (as usual) boring side plots and lengthy scenes with blah blah blah. Otherwise it would be like 50 minutes only. Even the short film "LIghts Out" (2013, 3 minutes) was very short and also not satisfying for my taste. It also feels like ideas were only taken from David Lynch, who loves the use of electricity as well or how to say it.
Not even worth watching a second time, "horror". Yeah, right. YAWN!
Memory (2022)
Memory (2022)
For those who don't know: this film is a remake of the 2004 Belgian film "The Alzheimer Case" aka "The Alzheimer Affair" or "The Memory of a Killer" aka "De zaak Alzheimer".
And unfortunately it's very average and disappointing. The orignal movie is much better, so go watch it instead. Many things like character names, locations, details etc. Were changed but not without many flaws that weigh so much that it's just average - and sometimes even below. Poor work by Martin Campbell, maybe he's just too old to do it better.
If you like Campbell's works and are looking for action I only can highly recommend his good old James Bond: 007 movie "GoldenEye" (1995). It's old now, but it's still epic and definitely still worth watching since it has everything you can dream of, even including awesome soundtrack and other "minor" details.
#letitbe.
Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022)
Bodies Bodies Bodies - yeah, where?
Yet another low budget movie which feels hastily made starring random and replacebale actors having horrible dialogues without any humor or satirical elements as so many other people are talking about. There is also no message, nothing new and the extensive use of the F-word is just ridiculous and childish. No witty dialogues or lines at all! I had zero laughs, yawn!
The plot is also forgettable since it just feels like a very badly executed copy of "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil" (2010). Action? Horror? Blood? Almost completely missing, instead you get almost 90 minutes of endless and boring blah blah blah and drama about the teens/twens oh-so-terrible life and "problems". It also felt like a feminine campaign with most actors being female and most of the awful soundtrack is "sung" by females as well. Well failed director, screenwriter and everyone else! WHAT were you thinking? That it's cool, to use profanity in like every 2nd line of your primitive dialogues? YAAAAAAWN!
Any (!) 16yo could have made that nonsense, and even better! But I guess that's the focus group, shame on you 46yo director!
SKIP THIS AND WATCH "TUCKER AND DALE VS EVIL" INSTEAD !
John and the Hole (2021)
"John and the Hole" - is where this belongs...
ANY12yo kid could've written/directed/you-name-it. Illogical, boring, lengthy and also silent. Not to forget superficial, as you simply cannot know characters from watching them in a few scenes, and a tiny bit of a few more scenes where they actually show behavior/lifestyle and finally speak no random/irrelevant blah blah. Just that's way too less. Psychological thriller? Drama? Coming-of-age movie? My a** !
The "best" is the cinematography and yet it was shot in 4:3. Hello year 1999! The rare and minimalistic music was kinda atmospheric too, but that's it. Actors/acting seem like random and so replaceable. Their bevahior (parents, sister) is utterly stupid and trivial.
WASTE OF TIME/HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. PERIOD.
Small Engine Repair (2021)
"Small engine repair" with big plot wounds
I'll make it short this time, the premise sounded original but to me it was just lengthy, predictable (hi "twist") and boring. The humor often is just profane too, instead of being sophisticated. It also felt very low budget, had camera issues, production design flaws, actor fails and what not. Talking about actors, Jon Bernthal saved it. But only in accompany with the underestimated Shea Whigham. In the second half it also felt like an Instagram ad-loop, so no thanks. Not gonna watch it again ever. Yet another movie with the same 2010/2020s flaws partially mentioned above, everything feels hastily made and without any love for details etc. Just look at the costumes for examples. The repair garage itself. Yawn, better luck next try!
Titane (2021)
Titane? Not even bronze...
What is this? Horror? Yawn, not really. SciFi? As less as possible. Drama? Yeah, that's it! And not a good one. Ridiculous plot with poor dialogues, stupid human behavior all the time, the story feeling hastily made and lacking connectivity. Also parts of the story were stolen, so there's absolutely nothing new to see here. The soundtrack, if existant, is also very poor and often unfit. On top of that the camera work is also often poor, locations are random and low budget all the time...
Sorry about nothing positive to say, but that's how I felt. I was expecting a horrorthriller, but Titane is just a big disappointemnt and the worst movie I've seen this year (and I watch at least one every day). Too bad I didn't stop watching after 20 minutes as intended, but now I know I will not watch "RAW" (2016) by the same director as I intended, so thanks for taking off some burden at least.
Extra Ordinary (2019)
Extraordinarily... bad!
First, please forgive me that I am truly sorry for not having any positive to say about this movie. Random actors with no character are having cheesy dialogues in a confusing and then predictable plot. The soundtrack is inappropriate mostly and so are the "jokes" and language. There was no comedy or horror at all for my taste, just rubbish shown with poor camera work . It felt like students shot this movie in like two days, but when you see the credits you start to wonder why so many people were involved? Wasn't necessary. I almost stopped the movie, but then I had hope it would become better. It didn't.
The lack of humor was really bad, I had high hopes because British humor is great - hail to Monty Python, Mr. Bean and so on. When I thought this could be a kids movie I remembered the bad language and a few scenes which wouldn't be child appropriate. It's allowed to show it to a 12 year old here, but hell, no way I would show it to a kid this young.
If you really are looking for decent horror comedies, go watch one or more of these: Zombieland 1+2, Addams Family movies, The Cabin in the Woods, Happy Death Day and its sequel, any Scary Movie flick and so on and so on, just NOT this one here. Again, I am really sorry to pan this and this is my very first review here, but after watching I couldn't stop having the urgent need to warn others about its awful quality everywhere.
