Have to give this one a relatively high score for its fear and grotesquely creepy factor. Okay, so the title should give you some indication and it doesn't disappoint in that manner. I thought perhaps I'd seen it all by now but no way, no how...did I think this one would be quite as off the scale as it is. Absolutely nuts and it'll make you think if you're ever...in certain situations. It's not an award winning flick, but it'll creep you out for sure. I watch this stuff and I'm a thrice university graduate who likes horror. Some of the dialogue is fantastically good in WTF ways and suited the scenes.
This is an unbelievably lovely movie. From start to finish, the thoughtfulness, the characters, the dialogue, the emotion and sentiment, absolutely amazing. It's not without flaws as there are spotty moments when it stumbles for its footing, but if you desire inspiration and something different, it's now a classic in my book. A spectacular set of actors that play their characters, each one different personalities that seemingly wouldn't get along, that work well together. A blend of drama, comedic relief, scenery, all of the above wrapped up in a nice story. We need more nice stories. I watch this every single time I run across it never disappoints me. Estevez does a great job with this one.
I get why it's a cult classic, I also get why people are drawn to it because the emotional spin plus the overly insane political landscape these days makes this a film that people are drawn to. It's now an older film, and I decided to watch it again because quite frankly it was too dark and full of despair the first time that I thought I'd better give its artistry another chance. It's still grotesque to me. I completely understand it, I completely follow it, and am impressed by its depth and mastery of tragedy and vengeance. However, sometimes something just doesn't sit right and this is one of those films. I know this isn't a popular opinion and I'm fine with that. The actors played their characters well.
