I was really intrigued by X. It was scary, creepy, interesting, shocking, disgusting, and new, despite following patterns of a very well-known and overdone genre of filmmaking. I connected with the main character, wonderfully portrayed by the gorgeous Mia Goth. Naturally, I was very happy and excited to see that this was going to be a trilogy.
In my opinion, the second movie was even better than the first. It had something that was quite unseen. It was a really messed up story based on a very pathetic and yet intriguing character that was, once again, masterfully portrayed by Mia Goth. I watched it twice and really enjoyed multiple memorable scenes.
I checked regularly for many months to see find more information about the release and further details of MaXXXine. When the day came and I finally began watching it, I quickly felt disappointed by a rather poorly developed plot and logical leaps. Of course the relationship inherent to the story was predictable in the first movie, but I didn't expect it to be so ridiculously explained and shaped.
The film lacked the exciting factors and intriguing developments found in the first two movies. It wasn't scary. It wasn't interesting. It wasn't revolutionary. In fact, I stopped caring about the story very early on and even began to no longer like the protagonist. It was no longer interesting, and she became quite annoying and basic. She wasn't as mysterious, relatable, and alluring as she was in the first movie, nor was she as strangely but beautifully messed up as Pearl. She was just boring.
I noticed that my mind began wandering off and I started looking at my phone instead.
Now, despite all of the criticism, I will say that I still loved the trilogy. I liked X and was impressed by Pearl so much that I will remember this story for a long time, so, a lackluster conclusion to the story is not necessarily that big of a deal.
By all means, watch it if you like the story. It is incomplete without the third film.
Much respect to the creators and to Mia Goth who has become one of my favorite actors as a result of Pearl.

I very rarely feel so hooked to a show that I can't wait to sit down and watch the next episode. I binge-watched this within two days while working and it was quite a distraction.
The topic is something new that I haven't seen in other movies or TV shows. It was very well executed. The characters are likable and interesting. There is enough character depth that makes you know each individual and be interested in their story.
You could say that there are a few things here and there, such as the rather mild reactions by individual characters to something as extraordinary as an extraterrestrial device, but these are minor aspects that are less important compared to the heavy story and the very intriguing underlying plot.
I can't wait to see what comes next.
