Charlie Says (2018)
save your $7
"Charlie Says" is ultimately a white wash of the horror committed by the Manson Family--it features the roles of the females in two of our nation's most gruesome and horrifying slaughter of completely innocent people to date which no one will forget--least of all the victims' families.
The true facts of the atrocities committed by the Manson Family (including the three women featured in this movie) and historical events are either omitted or not nearly accurate in the movie--the facts and events have been tweaked, whitewashed, slanted to tilt the viewers' feelings towards sympathy for the three Manson women rather than towards legitimately earned feelings of horror, shock, and disgust for the heinous murders they committed.
The movie shows Charlie Manson as the leader of these misfit women of the Manson Family supposedly by using mind control but this was not clearly shown as the women did have freedom and were free to leave. So, the power of mind control theme in the movie falls apart here. One is left to think that these women of the Manson Family went from a herd mentality of sociopaths to psychopathic murderers willingly--just following the herd.
The movie is not great, by a long shot.
Clinton Cash (2016)
Bill and Hillary Clinton Are Above the Law - Crime Pays
Subtitle: Pay No Attention to What the Clinton's Publicly Say they Believe In...Because, They Can Be Bought. See this movie.
I had to watch Clinton Cash twice to absorb the enormity of their crimes. Bill and Hillary under the guise of their Clinton Foundation present their pattern of on-going abuse and it is blatantly criminal. Using her position as Secretary of State and his position as ex U.S. President, they use the full force of their power to line their pockets and to line the pockets of those individuals and countries who 'donate' huge sums to their Clinton Foundation--a win- win for the Clintons and for those people and countries (Canada, Russia, India) who grease the Clintons' palms for expensive mineral and mining rights, building rights, nuclear technology information, XL Pipeline legislation, tax evasion, and more. Cost to taxpayers? 5 trillion + Dollars. Discoveries made through earnest investigation, speaking accounts, and trails of emails...we already know at least 33,000 of Hillary's were deliberately shredded and server wiped clean. Any of these related to Hillary and Bill's pattern of abuse and corrupt ways?
Voters must think before voting. Think really hard.....how much damage can Hillary and Bill do to our country if given the White House now? It's a scary thought.
Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party (2016)
Incriminating Secrets Revealed
I saw Dinesh D'souza's beautifully made documentary, Hillary's America, today, along with lots of other people. I enjoyed all of it--the lighter moments as well as the 'real' moments with prospects so serious it might be reason to avoid another Clinton White House. Experts in their fields share anecdotal proof and historical facts that reflect less than honorable Democratic Party intentions, and some of the Clinton scandals are discussed. An independent thinking African American woman researcher talks about the history of the people in the Democratic Party contrasted by the people in the Republican party (beginning with Lincoln, later assassinated by a Democrat), as well as an independent investigator of the Clinton Foundation (why didn't the people of Haiti get their donations?) In a couple of scenes, some of the more notorious Clinton scandals are noted on a bulletin board in the background. I was reminded of "Whitewater", like today's email scandal, it's a big one, and also still lingering is the role the Arkansas Mafia played in the Clinton's early success. Dinesh's explanation of why Hillary and Bill are suited to each other matches mine, and is the only one that really 'works' given all the extra-marital 'events'. Power. Politics. Social Engineering. Go see the movie, it's well done.
America: Imagine the World Without Her (2014)
Dinesh's Counter to Obama's "Change"
Right off the bat, I have to say I'm a fan of Dinesh D'Souza. This man is proud to be American (a LEGAL immigrant) and loves the 'idea' of America so much, he takes many personal risks to share his patriotism, passion and fears with the movie-going public.
Yes, Dinesh broke a campaign finance law when he reimbursed a friend who donated money to someone's campaign, apologized and suffered the consequences, which is strategically woven into the fabric of this "America" movie. Not to minimize Dinesh's mistake, the fact is, with the way the U.S. government collects info on people around the world, including everyday American citizens, we're all at risk because apparently it doesn't take much for a determined gov't entity to pin a felony on law-abiding citizens who may suffer when they cannot afford to defend themselves or choose to refuse a defense in open court for any number of reasons. (Remind you for the IRS? The NSA? The DOD? etc.)
Very interesting, the way Dinesh shows us his interviews with those Saul Alinski-Noam Chomsky-Bill Ayers-types who mean to obliterate the 'idea' of America (to 'fundamentally change America'), and make no bones about it. They shout their goal of America's destruction from the roof tops as college professors, community organizers, history book writers, media hounds, reservation spokes-people, and especially as politicians in front of the Presidential Seal, and on the campaign trail for the highest office in the U.S. (Buyer beware!)
Keeping with the point-counter-point format of the movie, writings from historical heavyweights Alexis de Tocqueville and Abraham Lincoln, for example, amplify the point of view that America is a land of common people (no kings or sirs here!). It's a nation historically willing to go to war to correct injustice (Civil War, for example). It's a place that offers people the potential to write their own 'history' and live the American dream through hard work and the free market system.
"America" reminds us that U.S. history books are a dime a dozen, each written by someone with a different lens, a different goal. Read many from different points of view. Understand the Founding Fathers (intellectually no slouches) and the continuous struggle throughout history that our nation endures to fairly represent the individual citizen (Bill of Rights), to protect the rights of the common man, and protect states' rights (Constitution).
For me, there's no shame being American. I'm proud. Rather, the shame is on those Americans who want to bomb our country and 'change' it by destroying it first. Shameful. Criminal.
Thank you to all who made this excellent movie, "America". I highly recommend it.
Son of God (2014)
Beautiful and Brave Movie
Son of God is a beautiful movie, and a fabulous way to spend a rainy afternoon! The illustrative messages in Mark Burnett's artfully done movie are many. Yes, it educates us on the beginnings of Christianity and shows us what faith in God can look like, but it also provides a scaffold for human beings wanting to lead a purposeful life and calls on us to love and help each other.
Forgiveness, sharing, turning the other cheek, are some of life's lessons that we may tend to 'forget' about as we go along our busy, hectic, and sometimes difficult lives. The feeling that I can do better swept over me throughout this film.
Today, as Christians live in danger all around the world--in the Middle East, Turkey, Indonesia, Africa, London, Spain, the U.S. (Twin Towers, Pentagon, Pennsylvania field), and other countries, it strikes me that this is also a brave Hollywood movie. Brave because it's an American made, Christian movie put forth when references of 'God' are actually disappearing from American way of life--the family's plaque at Purdue University, the 'prayers' at Arlington, our President's version of the Gettysburg Address (to name a few). So, if you ask me, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey actually put together a beautiful, brave, Christian movie and I'd like to thank all who helped!
2016: Obama's America (2012)
apple doesn't fall far from the tree
I was pleasantly surprised to walk into the theater in San Jose, Ca and see it fairly well full. California is, after all, Obama-friendly (let's leave it at that). Imagine, a movie by a scholar with a conservative point of view actually doing well in....California? Shocker! Dinesh D'Souza's movie is excellent--scholarly, hard-hitting but soft around the edges as D'Souza draws personal parallels with Obama's roots and experiences and his.
The movie reminds us, that in life, it is our family, and the people in our life that makes us tick. Obama's speeches and book, "Dreams from My Father" are central to D'Souza's movie. Obama's parents, grandparents, substitute father, mentors, friends, and supporters make Obama what he is today and these relationships guide our President's policies and intentions for our country. The fact is, I really knew very little about WHO Obama was in 2008, but, I must say, I know more now, and I'm learning more every day. The 'apple doesn't fall far from the tree'.
One on one interviews with those who personally know Obama and his family gently help weave the facts which D'Souza presents to the audience while sharing his credible and very well documented themes. Much is added, still, through one on one interviews with experts (Shelby Steele, David Walker, Daniel Pipe, Paul Vitz, and others) who are patriots and fear for our country.
Produced by Gerald R. Molen ("Schindler's List"), D'Souza's movie is artfully done with beautiful, real and surreal camera work, and meaningful graphics. The viewer feels D'Souza's earnest desire for revealing answers to important questions not asked and not answered by 'main stream' media. Voters deserve to consider these answers, especially when electing a leader for our country and our military.
And for those who tend towards a fatalists' attitude about politics and voting, believing that it doesn't matter who our President is, or whether or not our government needs to balance the budget, please consider watching this movie. Personally, I agree with D'Souza. It matters. Know the person you vote for. Do your own homework.
Please, see the movie.
Young Adult (2011)
depressing, not funny
Young Adult, unfortunately, is one of those Hollywood movies we wished we hadn't seen. in fact, we wish we could get our money back. Based on comments made by other viewers upon leaving the theatre after the movie, we weren't the only ones who were disappointed. and, here's a news flash for those critics who call Young Adult a comedy. it isn't! Several characters and scenarios are just plain sad and in no way humorous. There was no laughter in the theatre during any of the scenes. trust me, we all left the theatre scratching our heads. Why did we see THIS movie instead of Mission Impossible? Or Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? depressing.charlize theron is a good actress, but she can't save the movie. it's still pretty darn bad.
Courageous (2011)
"Courageous" is worth every cent and every minute
Loved it, loved it, loved it! Story lines are introduced, developed, and resolved leaving no loose ends. I believed all of it thanks to the honesty of the writer, the director, the actors, the sets, the cinematography. I wasn't alone in loving the movie, as many other movie goers showed their approval with spontaneous applause throughout the movie and at the end.
Agnostics, atheists, humanists and the like might want to sit this one out as there's nothing for them in this well-done Christian movie.
Though the movie largely discusses the significant roles a father plays in life (no matter one's faith or lack there of), it also speaks resoundingly of the role the spirit of God plays in other believers' lives--a wife, a child, a laborer, a policeman, an employer, a minister etc. There's something for everybody.
"Courageous" is worth every cent I paid, and every minute I spent watching it and thinking about it after. Loved it!
I Am Number Four (2011)
silly movie
in my opinion, all of the good scenes are contained in the movie previews. must admit, i was really looking forward to seeing it. unfortunately, it was all downhill after the opening scene. the movie is rather 'amateurish' as the framing of several scenes show a lack of attention to detail. one of the more glaring examples of this, is when a character is still spotted in the scene, but clearly has no justification for being there--the scene moves on yet this character is still visible--doing nothing, just being there (off in the side-ground). there were a couple of interesting stunts. but overall, too many things just didn't fit and if you see it, you'll see what i mean.
