Rogue One (2016)
Incredible adaptation!!!
There are more passionate Star Wars fans than me, but I've seen enough movies in my lifetime to know what is considered a good movie. Not a true Star Wars fan, I watched this movie just because it's available and have nothing else to watch. I've heard about Rogue One and thought to myself, "Oh great. Another prequel??!?! You've got to be kidding me." Well to my surprise, this prequel drew me in a lot more than all the other prequels did. It concludes right up to Star Wars: A New Hope, just to give you an idea of the timeline of this film. There are surprises in this movie that I did not expect. Familiar faces all across the board, it goes into the suspense of another group of resistance fighters in trying to defeat the Imperial Alliance. There are a few surprise characters that I was very happy to see and completed the whole Star Wars experience for me. It made me want to watch "A New Hope" all over again. That's how good it is.
The beginning was a little rough because there were quite a few locations and characters involved. I got a little confused at first, but it all came together towards the latter half of the movie. It was an emotional movie for me and especially at the very end. Some of the action sequences and acting were top notch. Again, it left me pumping my arm up and down to go with a loud grunt. There were proud moments when I wish I can just go outside and yell my head off to release some energy. Yeah, it got me that into the movie. That's how you know it's a good movie. If you are moved by it.
All in all, a somewhat typical Star Wars type drama. Just another prequel that adds more detail to the whole Star Wars saga and how things came to be. If you're a Star Wars fan, this is a must see. As for how the movie ends, wonderfully done! I can't explain the wave of emotions that hit me in the face when I saw who made an appearance. Those who've seen it, you know what I mean. Yeah, that good right?
Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast (2014)
Disney movie that captures the heart
This movie was as expected and like with all other Disney movie, it contains morals and values for kids to learn from. As the synopsis briefly describes, you can never judge a book by it's cover or in this case, the fangs.
As an adult, you can see the message they are relaying to everyone of all ages. Children especially because they need to know this stuff to develop into their positive character trait.
I also did not expect to cry from this movie. It's very touching and hits you in the heart. Loved ones will want to watch this together. Especially if you have kids. I just couldn't help but shed a few tears, and I'm not the type to get teary-eyed either.
Overall, this movie is cute, funny, adorable, touching, and keeps you drawn to the plot. Excellent!
One Day (2011)
Very sweet movie
This movie brought a tear to my eye because it holds a dear message to me. Never take life for granted and sometimes the things that hold dearest to you are right in front of your nose. You may not know it and sometimes, you miss out what you never knew.
Anne Hathaway was great in this movie. A love story that ended in full circle. It's bitter sweet because of what happens towards the end of the movie. That's something I won't spoil.
I think the important thing to realize from this film is to never wait for the right moment because you never know what may happen. Take a chance. You just might get what you want.
Furious 6 (2013)
Best Fast and Furious to date!!!!
Freaking AAAAA!!!!! Wow, best Fast and the Furious to date!!!! Everything you need is right here. Drama, love, suspense, action, comedy, non stop thriller. This movie has more twist and turns then most movies in the last 5-years. And that's saying a lot!! It combines the previous Fast and the Furious together.......with the added twist at the very end. Boy, if you guys have doubts about this movie, say no more. This is a must see. Worth the money? Hell yeah and more.
All the cast and crew comes back so you won't be disappointed. It leaves off from the last one. The story all flow together extremely well. Familiar faces, familiar foes. I mean, it's huge. The ads and trailers don't this movie justice. You just have to see it to believe it.
Past, present, and future. Watch out. Fast and Furious 7 to be continued.
Playing for Keeps (2012)
Good movie
Enjoyable movie to watch, but painful to see the web of lies related to being in a relationship. Cheating, the lies, lust, sex. Wow. If this is what it's like in real life, I rather be single.
Too bad the children are always caught in the middle of these things.
Overall, it was an.......entertaining movie to say the least. Direction was excellent, cinematography was excellent, acting was excellent.
You know the synopsis already. A former superstar in the world of soccer is having financial difficulties, divorced, and seem like nothing is going for him. All that turns around when he starts coaching peewee soccer....
Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
OMG, best movie in awhile
Again, I will never give a perfect score but this movie is right up there with the best.
Yes, it is an action movie. It's a thriller, suspense, with a lot of on the edge of your seat type feel. Not a moment goes by, where you are absorbed into the movie. The story is typical. Terrorist tries to take over America by taking control of the White House. There were movies made like this before, but this one gets you pumped up..............
...........This movie will move you and make you want to get in on the action!! Several times while watching this, I felt like yelling out or do something to release some adrenaline. Yeah, it's like that. You won't be disappointed watching this.
**Oh, this movie is purely for entertainment purposes. Don't take this as the real deal because it's not. Lot of dumb critics and reviewers are rating this movie too literally.
The Last Legion (2007)
Very enjoyable
Wonderfully made movie. No magical powers here and other fancy special effects, but very dramatic and thrilling regardless. Definitely worth the rental charge.
It tells the story of the last stand of the Roman Empire until it's fall, which leads to the story of King Arthur and the famous sword, "Excalibur". But that's for another movie. It mainly focuses on the last blood line of the great Julius Caesar and the quest of the most powerful sword ever forged.
I love these kind of movies and this movie I will cherish like the rest of its kind.
The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia (2013)
Touching horror movie..is that even possible?
Acting is superb!!! The storyline deepens the more you watch it. And boy does it get good. It helps when you have seriously good actors though. So believable. The fact that it was based on a true story made this movie that much better.
For a horror movie, this is by far, one of the best I've seen in a long, long, long time. And that's saying a lot seeing how picky I am when it comes to a good horror flick. Of course, this movie has the usual scary moments like with any horror movies, but the story behind it is very touching. Especially what happens towards the end. It's just a must see and a keeper to add to anyone's collection.
I never rate movies a perfect score, but this one deserves a high 8 out of 10. That's really high for my standards. I should rate it a 7, but this movie was really good.
The Traveler (2010)
Revenge of the dead
There's nothing new here, but it did grab my attention. It's actually quite suspenseful, but the movie did take it's time to build up to the suspense.
I've seen a lot of movies like this and it's always about revenge with a supernatural twist. Then the revenge part turns sour. Of course, there are gruesome blood scenes as found in typical horror style. It's a little eyrie, but there is really no wow factor to it. At the end of the movie, I completely forgot about it and got food with friends. If that's how I reacted, then you know it wasn't really a good movie. Watchable if you have the time, but it's not worth the $15 admission price to the movies.
I'm a big fan of Val Kilmer and he did a superb job of acting. Deep and mysterious.
The Tortured (2010)
Who's the animal?
The movie grabbed my attention and for that, it at least gets a 5 out of 10. But is it really that good? For fans that love a nice little torture flick, this one does just that. The story flows really well from beginning to end.
So the bad guy kidnaps a couples child and tortures him to death. The grieving couple in return kidnaps the bad guy and tortures him in return. Both the wife and husband agree to do this by the way willingly.
What exactly does this accomplish by the way? I understand you feel a lot of pain grieving for your lost child, but to become a monster yourself and go through the same procedure as what the kidnapper did.....well, you are no better off than the kidnapper. I'm sorry to say.
For pain and torture and for those that enjoy movies like this, you won't be disappointed.
Here Comes the Boom (2012)
In his best role yet
What can I say about Kevin James? In everything he has accomplished as an actor, we regard him as the funny guy in the movies or that funny guy from "The King of Queens" TV show.
This movie takes on his usual role of comedy, but with more attitude and a more serious side to his character. It's actually a perfect blend of comedy and drama rolled into one. He puts a lot of heart into this movie and with great directions from the director and writers, I'm giving this movie a seven out of ten.
Although it captured a few moments for me and got me soft, there were some instances where the movie went off tangent a little. But the recovery brought the movie back and got me hooked again. If it can do that, it deserves the rating I gave it.
The morale of the story? If you put your heart into it, you can accomplish anything.
Sleeping Beauty (2011)
What's going to happen?
This movie often leads me to wonder what is going to happen to "sleeping beauty"? The movie leaves you hanging with no ending. What exactly happened there? Is she dead? Does she want to die? But it clearly shows that she was alive that next morning with Clara trying to wake her. Or was it just a dream? A dream she never want to wake up from because of what she has committed herself too.
She's doing everything she doesn't want to do. Inside, she knows it but nothing is holding her back. She has no support, no one really to be there for her. And I think her missing friendship, that spark of love was never there for her to realize all the mistakes she is making.
Her quick way out? Make enough money to live. The fancy brothel is her way out. The title of the movie, "Sleeping Beauty" symbolizes her "job" in the movie. She sleeps through some kind of a mild drug while old men do what they please with her. I don't think she knows exactly what they do to her because she wakes up screaming towards the end. But what could that really mean? Why did the movie end with her sleeping still and not waking up? Overall, the movie is mysterious, causes you to think throughout. I rate it a seven which is pretty high for my taste, but if a movie makes you think, it deserves a higher score.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011)
Unbearable movie
Very hard to watch due to the child's erratic behavior.
I manage to watch for about an hour and just could not bare anymore. It got to the point where I walked out. Now it seems as if there is something wrong with this boy. I can understand his dad died in the 9/11 tragedy. He is trying to cope in his own way, but the more I watch, the more I feel the boy needs to be in a mental institution. He clearly needs help in dealing with his father's death. This whole movie seems to be based on that. And the fact that he has to use this annoying musical instrument to survive in the real world, it just means he needs mental help.
Or at least see a psychiatrist or something. I will never mention this movie ever again after this post. Waste of time.
Blooded (2011)
Worse movie of the year
The title of the film initially peeked my interest. I figured it was going to be a horror flick. The whole documentary idea was very distracting. Right when you thought the movie was getting a little dramatic, there's the documentary voice over. I mean, what is the deal with that? 30 minutes into the movie, I was bored out of my mind and could not focus and I rarely feel this way with movies. Even some of the bad ones. I was forced to fast forward it little by little until the whole movie was over. Than I'm like, "That's it?" It was beyond a "D" movie. Low budget to the max with highly untrained actors. Not worth the money folks. There were never a climatic part to the movie and the documentary approach made the movie far worse than what it already is. I recommend you watch this movie while you are asleep at night.
I Am Number Four (2011)
Very good action movie
I don't know about others, but I really liked it. I watched this late, late night when I was somewhat drowsy. Usually, I would have already fallen asleep watching a movie that late, but this one kept me going with curiosity and suspense. I just have to know what will happen next. Action packed film with great acting. Special effects was on par with some of the greatest movies. Storyline is good, but I have seen better. Not bad overall and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. It's not something I would go see at the theaters, but on DVD, yes, it's a must see.
It reveals a lot of emotional issues we deal with in our youth and somehow still manage to make an action thriller film. Pretty neat.
Unknown (2011)
Keeps you on your toes
Oh boy, this movie is a good one. Suspense all the way. I love movie like this where it makes you think what's going to happen next. It's kind of like trying to figure out a puzzle and you have to put the pieces together. It can be mind-boggling, but at least it keeps your attention span.
The acting is very good of course. You've got some big name actors in this one. Liam Neeson is just one of the best and he certainly did not disappoint. Januray Jones reminds me so much of Christina Applegate. At first, I had to look her up because I thought she was Christina Applegate. The similarities are astounding. Almost twins separated at birth.
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Very good adaptation of the original classic!!!
I generally never give a movie a 10 of 10, unless it completely overtakes me in some way and leaves me talking about it for days. However, it does receive a high "9 of 10" due to the inspiration it has given me. If it can bring just a hint of tears to my eyes, it's a good movie and touched me to some level.
The last time I read "Alice in Wonderland" was back when I was a child and many years ago. This movie has a similarity to the original plot, but Tim Burton has extended it out further for a deeper insight to "Alice in Wonderland". There are moments in the movie where it led me to a whole new storyline, but made sense to the whole Alice theme.
I personally love the new version. I just find it rather amusing that Tim Burton have to take on the challenge of adapting his version of the story to Disney, since it is a Disney storyline we're talking about. The characters do look a little intimidating though, typical Tim Burton film.
Still, he did a rather splendid job at that. Like with any Disney movies, there's a lesson or morale to be learned: Believe in yourself.
