This a complete miss. The Holmes character is so unlikeable and disrespectful that its hard to give him any credit.
The young actress playing his daughter is not a good representation of a woman from the era from the west coast of the US. She's more like a college student from the 90's-- the 1990's.
I had high hopes for this edition, but the casting of Holmes, the daughter, and the rest-- with the exception of some of the street characters, don't make sense.
The story involves an international crime syndicate, but its far-fetched and contrived. Its not really a mystery that it relates to Holmes somehow. Its simply not an enjoyable experience watching this Holmes bluster about.

This season 1 of Hell on Wheels was fair and worth a watch for the period set recreations and wardrobes.
The relationship portrayed between the characters Cullen and Elam is off a bit from what it should be. Cullen is a reformed slave owner with a conscience, yet his treatment of Elam is not indicative of this fact. They should be allies, but the Cullen character seems overly played as an alcoholic jerk. He wouldn't have survived in his assassin role if he were a drunken idiot without social skills.
Its an interesting story about the Union Pacific Railroad being built and the sets, though small in scale, are great.
There are problems with the portrayal of the Indians. They speak perfect English and their makeup and clothing seem too perfect.
Theres a boxing match that goes on forever even though the fighters are landing painful facial blows to one another repeatedly. Again, this is among two characters who aren't enemies in any sense.
The Season 1 plot is basic and contains stereotypical western characters like prostitutes, gamblers, former slaves, and foreign immigrants. It's entertaining, but not enough for me to go beyond Season 1. Its a small settlement on a rail line after all.

There's a lot wrong with this movie, and anything over a 5 is generous.
Vince Vaughn can't save this silly story which is an homage to several teen movies. This is getting tiresome. I could swear one of the actors from Ferris Buehler's Day Off is in this movie. Why does every horror movie now have to be an homage?
Body-swapping takes a good story and clear writing to sell the plot contrivance. In this film, we're asked to believe that a teen girl and an adult man in his 40's switch bodies because of a silly, faux Aztec ritual.
Its just not convincing. The movie is filled with teen stereotypes that probably wouldn't exist as High School friends.
The movie takes 20 minutes to get going. Its a long wait for any payoff. Vince Vaughn cannot play a female teen.
There's gratuitous teen culture and gay references that don't land as jokes. I lost interest. Theres no real scares or comedy.
The better, similar teen movie is "Totally Killer".
"Freaky" is a waste of time, and Vince Vaughn.
