I wonder if the entirety of the budget went towards renting helicopters. If the budget allowed for better actors, writers, and special effects possibly I would've rated it a few stars higher. I think the rekindled romance between the mom and dad was unnecessary in a movie about a natural disaster. The romance took away from the suspense the director attempted to build. The funniest part of the movie was when the family was tasked with detonating a warhead without any prior experience dealing with one. The mom just happened to know how to activate it by pressing all sorts of buttons. I guess thats what a normal seismologist would have prior knowledge of. I'm surprised I watched the whole movie. I finished it to see if at any point it would get better, but it kept getting worse. This movie has joined my list of the worst movies I have ever seen.
The transitions and cinematography were the best parts of the movie. The rest of it was bland and oftentimes hilarious. It started off a little interesting and then took a weird dive at the middle. By the end of the movie I was thinking it could be classified as a horror comedy, because it was making me laugh more than anything. A bit disappointing since Monroe is one of my favorite actresses. Her character in this movie was so monotone and unlikable that it was hard to empathize with her. Compared to the other roles she has been in, this honestly was the worst character and movie in her acting career.
I had this movie on my watchlist for a long time and decided to finally watch it. Oh wow it was not what I was expecting. What even is this movie? The beginning was actually pretty good, but the middle and ending not so much. The character Beetlejuice is unbearable to watch. I didn't like his persona and inappropriateness. I'm glad I didn't watch this movie in childhood because I would've paid less attention to the script and not realized how inappropriate some parts of the movie are. This is without a doubt the worst Tim Burton film of all time. The high ratings and praise for this movie surprised me. Maybe people rate this movie higher due to nostalgia or something.
