The Gorge looks and feels like an adequately directed, sufficiently budgeted videogame cutscene that meets all the standards of QA but the gameplay is missing.
It's like you're watching a compilation of all cutscenes from Remnant: From the Ashes or anything with a modernized souls-like gameplay and a dark sci-fi theme on YouTube.
Was it good? No. But it wasn't bad either. It was perfectly mediocre in implementing every single element. Competent, adequate, efficient, predictable are the best fit words to describe this film. I didn't hate it for a second, just as I didn't like anything it had to offer.
If it had just a little more originality, a little more creativity, more audacity to do something outside the rails it was on, it could become a cult classic. But it didn't, it's no Carpenter, no Fragasso, no Hooper for all I know.
It's just content, you consume it like food, without and side effects or consequences, and forget you ever had (watched) it.

I've seen the trailer for Presence and for some reason though that it should be a weird horror film with a ghost first person perspective. Lucky for me, it wasn't.
It was an interesting experimental supernatural drama. Fairly simple, sometimes even oversimplified, but well-built with a powerful ending. I was quite surprised that the film managed to get me invested into the lives of a fairly average family, just by letting me observe their daily life.
The core idea felt like a fresh take on a tired concept of ghostly presence, again, surprisingly a simple addition to the tired 'ghost in the house' format resulted in a way higher level of emotional engagement.
They didn't overexplain or give all the answers I probably wanted, but if you pay attention the ending feels earned and complete.
This was surely a one-time experience and a great experiment in filmmaking. I'd give it a 7.5.

Ku bei (2021) or The Sadness is one of the most violent, repulsive and gory films I've ever seen. If you consider it a film in general.
I didn't find it bad, it was quite bold in terms of violence and shock factor. But it was also as empty in terms of emotional engagement as possible.
I'd say that if there was a real actual script involved, this could've been an instant cult classic. All the violence and insanity should've been just a quality background for an engaging story.
This film had no story, only two paper-thin characters, and the pacing was all over the place. It would drag, then jump straight into insane gore, then drag again with questionable social commentary for like 20 minutes. There were no stakes and not a single character to care about, the story managed to start, but never ended in anything meaningful.
The acting was also questionable, but I cannot really compare it to Hollywood acting due to cultural differences (and watching the film with subs).
Overall, the film did impress me with how far they went with violence, but other than that - it's completely empty of any substance.
