Leave the World Behind (2023)
Should have been an 8
So I agree with most of the other reviews. I really enjoyed this movie and couldn't wait to see where it went. If it had a decent ending, I would have given it a score of 8. However, I feel like there was 20 minutes missing from the end. Just stopped too soon. If it was a mini-series, it would have been a perfect cliffhanger to wait until the next episode.
Loved the acting from all the actors, even the kids. Camera work was spot on. Even the story and concept all worked together.
Kevin Bacon had a small but great role. Strange to see someone of his statue with a minor role, but he made the most of it.
Rumble Fish (1983)
used to be cool
I saw this when it came out in the 80's. I was about 12. Just about the age when I thought Matt Dillion and Mickey Rourke where as cool as can be. Their tough-guy characters in this movie was awesome to 12 year old me. Didn't really care about the story, just the cool factor.
Saw it again this year since it was Amazon Prime. I was excited to experience these characters again. And the black-and-white photography made it badass.
Well, it did NOT stand the test of time. Now an adult, these guys seem silly. The fights are ridiculous and the dialogue is weak. I still don't really get the story, nor why this was even made.
I'm glad I saw it "back in the day" when I enjoyed it. I can understand how others enjoy and the look and feel of this movie. It just doesn't do it for me as an adult.
Cobra (1986)
So bad, it's good
It's almost feels like one of those spoof films, making fun of action movies. It's really that bad. Every possible corny line, chase, fight, gun fight, etc... Don't think anyone put much effort or thought into it.
The bad guy is always sweating, the bad cop is obvious, Cobra's bosses don't like him, he keeps his pistol in his waistband. Of course he takes on 30 or 40 bad guys by himself, and doesn't even get a scratch.
His gun never runs out of bullets, the woman in trouble falls for him, his partner always has wisecracks - I could go on and on
If you asked AI to create a typical 80's action movie, it would something like this.
But guess what? I enjoyed it.
Old (2021)
Maybe as joke
This might be enjoyable if you look at it as a joke. The writing is really bad. But it must be the worst acting I've ever seen in a major motion picture. Sometimes it feels like they were trying to make a bad movie.
Maybe it will someday fall into that genre "so over the top bad, that's it good"
