I adored Ryan Gosling as Ken, and Margot Robbie was perfect as Barbie. (Parents, this is not a movie for little kids.) The beginning was hopeful and I loved the cast and the amazing set of Barbie Land. Barbie's playhouse was amazing! But as it went on, it became way too political and preachy and went downhill. If I did this movie, I would have made it a love story between Ken and Barbie and had them get married, making use of all the cool Barbie toys and her friends. But of course that would have been strangely politically incorrect, even though that's what most people still do these days. So it was a way cool set, amazing cast, but way too political for my taste.
So many life lessons are touched on in this movie. Life, death, hate, human survival, brotherly love, etc. The values that are woven into this film seem to be mostly missing or forgotten today, and there aren't a lot of ways to learn them in the material world we live in now. Beautifully filmed with a perfect cast, this heartwarming human story is an unforgettable coming of age tale. If it's true that life imitates art, then when you look at this film compared to the many spiritually and morally empty movies of today, you can see why we live in the messed up society we have now. They truly don't make them like they used to. I read the book before I saw the movie, and they are both superb.
No, no, no. Inaccuracies throughout, the dialogue was particularly weird and unrealistic. We forced ourselves to sit through it to make sure we weren't over-exaggerating. We were laughing and rolling our eyes at almost every scene. It was just wrong in so many ways. These were people who became obsessed with revenge and violence. It really wasn't about the religion, it was just convenient for them to blame it on that. In fact, they weren't even LDS. They had been excommunicated.
