This is certainly top-of-line within the Endeavor Series, which runs in Germany under the deceptive title of "The Young Inspector Morse" with the episode titled as "Castle in the Sky" putting the focus on the collapsing building, whereas "Deguello" - at least for everybody who has watched "The Alamo" and "Rio Bravo" - has the clear pointing towards the very final fight with no mercy or pardon given.
But - mild spoiler - there is a sense of relief for almost all the key characters either thru death, a turnaround from the wrong path and redemption by action, unexpected heroes and the resolution of horizontal stories spanning this season and the previous one. Only Morse is, as usual, the desperate loner at the end, even if his life is spared despite facing impossible odds.
The story itself brings together two seemingly unrelated stories - the murder of an Oxford Librarian and the deaths of many residents of the beforementioned collapsing "castle in the sky" which is not an accident but at least an act of criminal negligence meshed with corruption in high public offices.
And even the Pelikan has his Bright moment.

The Episode came out three years after the. Dirty Harry - Calahan sequel about a "mop-up" force of young motobike cops going after criminals that had jumped their justified penalty on technicalities or lack of evidence. Here it is not an insider, but somebody who desperately wants to be one - but didn't make it thru police school but now reads police traffic and takes action into his own hands. Bill Bixby is again the antagonist and plays it brilliantly - but obviously Stone and Heller are not ready to hand over their core work to him and are to bring him down. See for yourself, if and how they succeed.
I have to conced that I had quite a crush on. Cheryl Miller as the daughter of Marshall Thompson in Daktari when it aired in Germany 50 years ago. She knew how to wear Jeans for sure. Now, as we get to revisit the SoSF in another syndication repeat, I noted for the first time she played other roles also - and quite good. Stone and Heller are chasing a government killer, who goes freelancing for a radical group, that doesn't like good relations with China - what an absurd motif ?. The whole thing moves fast, the killer is a man of many appearances and disguises and Stone and Heller are permanently on their heels trying to get hold of him. Cheryl Miller ? She looks great, picks up the killer into her apartment but curiosity killed the... But she holds the clue to the solution in her hand.
