U Me Aur Hum (2008)
Refreshing Movie
I was very disappointed by Raju Chacha (which was produced by Ajay Devgan) and I was hoping U ME AUR HUM will not go the same way.
And believe me I ended up enjoying the movie. Though I am not yet sure whether this a rip-off of some Hollywood movie, but was impressed with the cute love story, refreshing camera work, eye-catching colors, funny and enjoyable dialouges, good music (though it could have done with less songs) and last very very good acting by Ajay and Kajol.
After Amir Khan, its Ajay Devgan's turn to impress.
Strongly Recommended!!!
8.5/10
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006)
Karan,,,,, Please stop making idiotic movies
I have never see such boring, stupid movie. It will drive you insane. This movie is disaster even compared to my personal worst "Hindustaan Ki Kasam".
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was the best Karan made (even that had its limits, but was entertaining at least), than came K3G. I never understood why it became biggest grosser over-seas. And now you have KANK, which doesn't make sense at all. All big names, but zero gains for the audience. Karan's view about relationships is neither exciting nor entertaining.
But nobody can argue the fact that it will cross the records set by K3G (if not at least will come near to it). I can understand "Phir Hera Pheri" becoming a hit, but KANK... it will drive you insane.
Karan grow up, when people around you are making their mark, making movies like Omkara, Lagaan etc, you still make bad movies, which no one will remember after few years. Even your assistant Nikhil made a better movie (Kal Ho Na Ho).
Anyway thanks for wasting out time and energy.... I wonder how many people will waste their many more hours discussing how you could have made a better movie.
Kofee with Karan OR Insanity by Karan !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omkara (2006)
Not to be missed!!!!!!
And probably the one of the best of all times. I was not very much aware of the story of Shakespere's play. But I did read peoples reviews before going for the movie.
No doubt this movie is a master piece. Whether it is story, screenplay, music, acting, take any department of the film and it is bound to score at least 9/10 on each of them.
The director lives to the hype generated after his last 2 critical hits Makdee and Maqbool. Everybody gets there act perfect, special mention to Saif and Kareena. Vishal had said in one of his interviews that he did not expect Kareena to be this good, and that is the same feeling I had after leaving the theatre. I had really started hating her after numerous number of over-acted films, but Vishal gets best out of her. Ajay's acting was never in question, Konkana was superb as usual and Saif delivers a award winning performance. Though I thought that Naseer's character was under-developed.
Above all, its Vishal who deserves to be appreciated, one for making a classic, two for getting everyone associated to the movie to give there best.
Ek Ajnabee (2005)
Value for money
After seeing lot of comedy crapers over the past few weeks, this one was a surprise. I had not watched even the trailer of the movie.
The movie was very good till interval and was decent after the interval. Amitabh has given another good performance, I must say he looked great throughout the movie. The child actress was another high point of the movie, she will linger on to your memory even after leaving the theater.
The movie is completely set in Bankok and main theme involves around kidnapping business in the city. It is not a flawless movie, Amitabh alone is worth the money spent. Don't miss it.
Oops! (2003)
Not Bad
Rented out this DVD thinking that its a comedy movie.
Though a complete U-turn from comedy, still a good attempt as a first time direction by Deepak Tijori (remember....Friend of Akshay Kumar in Khiladi).
Movie is about 3 friends. A rich guy, a poor guy and a girl friend. The poor guy wants to be rich super fast, so becomes a male striptease against his friends wishes.
He discovers a disturbing fact while in this profession. I will not reveal the disturbing fact. So watch out for yourself.
Acting is not very great but manageable, songs are also strictly OK. The theme of the movie is what makes it different.
Parineeta (2005)
Simply Superb, A must watch
Vidu Vinod Chopra, the name brings in memory some of the best films made. Be it Parinda or 1942 A Love Story or Kareeb or Mission Kashmir or the latest Munnabhai MBBS, he has always tried something different than the usual masala movies.
I had great expectations from the movie and the movie lives up to it. A good story, beautiful Calcutta as a backdrop, touching performances from Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan are enough to get your money back.
Vidya looks great and acts too great. Saif is slowly moving from his 'Cool dude' image to more versatile roles. He delivers a powerful performance and enacts the confused guy very well. Sanjay Dutt is functional. Support cast is good. Music is very good and does not play a spoilsport (as done in most of the bollywood movies).
A must watch!!!!
Kaun? (1999)
Urmila all the way
I am posting this review 6 years after watching this movie at Chennai's second rate theatre. Though I did watch this movie recently on DVD. I went to watch this movie just sheer out of ignorance as this movie did not have any publicity. I went to kill my time and was surprised by the movie. It is a great movie because of Urmila and Manoj Bajpai (Bhiku Matre of Satya). Both have acted well, and the Verma has build the errii atmosphere very well. Background score keeps you at the edge of your seat. This movie deviates from Ramsay world of horror movies and makes you feel as if you are watching best of bollywood horror movies. I must say Verma deserves kudos for making a brilliant movie. There will be very few who are not aware of the climax of the movie, but even then this movie deserves a watch. If otherwise, you are in for a surprise.
Bunty Aur Babli (2005)
didn't like it
After watching Saathiya (Shaad's first direction), I had high expectations from this movie. But he proved that it was Mani Ratnam's magic (Alayai Payuthe, Saathiya's original tamil version) which helped in the success of Saathiya.
If you are a die hard fan of Abhishek and Rani, then probably you can see the movie, but as a package, the movie falls flat. The cons are not properly developed and senior B adds to downhill of the movie. Actually I am getting sick of Sr B watching him in every other movie (though eagerly waiting for Verma's Sarkar). Aishwarya item song actually takes you to the heights of boredom.
I must say Abhishek and Rani are superb and they make a good on screen pair (after Yuva). Only if Shaad Ali had worked little hard on the movie, we could have had 'Catch me If You Can' of bollywood.
