Mes espérances en 1908 (1908)
Mondane moments with Ouimet's family
I thought no print of the films made by Léo Ernest Ouimet had survived, but the ''Archives Nationales du Québec'' are presumed to have a copy of this movie from 1908. I saw a copy of it in VHS at the Cinémathèque Québécoise today. It is only 3 minutes in run time. We can see the children of the director playing and dancing, obviously getting told what to do while it happens, and later on his wife knitting with the children around her. The story of Ouimet is fascinating and it's a shame that most of his work was burned a long time ago, but it's nice to know a little piece of it survived. I highly suggest you to inform yourself about the life and work of this great pioneer of the Québec and Canadian cinema.
La Luna (2011)
As great as expected, and even more!
I've seen it at the Disney D23 annual Event in Los Angeles today. Enrico Casarosa, writer and director of "La Luna", was present during the screening. He explained that it is a very personal project, and that the characters and their personalities were based on himself and also members of his family. I personally thought that it was a masterful work of imagination, beautifully animated and totally charming. The music was also perfect, thanks again to Michal Giacchioni. Pixar fans, and everybody else as far as i'm concerned, won't be disappointed. A magical and original experience. An academy award nomination awaits for this awesome short!
Burn After Reading (2008)
The Coen brothers did it again !
I saw the film at the 65th Venice Film Festival yesterday. The red carpet was a huge attraction of course with Brad Pitt and George Clooney. I'm not surprised to tell you that the Coens will not disappoint any fans with Burn After Reading.
Two gym employees(Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand) find a computer disc containing Osbourne Cox's (John Malkovic) CIA informations and they try to get money from him.
Original story, awesome cast, great direction, many hilarious moments, marvelous acting and highly unpredictable actions are at the rendez-vous.
Though the movie is a bit short (95min.), Burn After Reading is a very enjoyable film that you won't soon forget. **** out of 5
