Case Histories (2011)
We loved this, will there be more? Please? More?
This is a beyond good series. I had not read her books, but will now. The stories are edge of the seat as well as being sad and funny. The settings are beautiful or interesting and the characters are complex. I don't agree with any of the criticism,my husband and I were mesmerized. We turned on the closed captioning so as not to miss a word of dialogue. I am now motivated to see the Harry Potter movies, just for Jason Isaacs. I never fail to be amazed at the over the top talent of the British ,it is so refreshing to watch actors that are not Hollywood, and look like real people. This is as good as Luther. Seriously.
A Good Year (2006)
not a good year,
it was so long and slow. painful there was some eye candy with the scenery, gorgeous women, etc. BUT the film was grainy, Russell looked constipated, and the characters just did not feel believable. i read in another comment that the book explains that he was not rich, had lost his job, etc. But the movie does not go there at all. and what was with the last scene with his assistant and the rappers? MADE NO SENSE to me. I guess i was distracted, but I also did get the wine thing. good wine, bad wine, lots of whining. I can't believe he was unaware of what an awesome huge estate this was, and he had to end up with a crummy little car. it was convoluted and jerky, the film was like the car.
The Illusionist (2006)
distracting goofs
I am not sure why i can't find reference to this anywhere on the web, but my daughter and I were confounded by the number of times we saw the mike boom in this picture...could it have been the copy of the film we saw! It was so distracting...in both indoor and outdoor shots, just hanging there for all to see. At least three times when Norton was on stage. Anyway...i enjoyed the costumes, the sets, but generally thought it was not that great...anyone else see this? I also didn't like the way they refreshed us on all the "tricks" at the end. In the original "dead body" scene the doctor was not wearing a disguise...i think that was bogus. I guess i should watch it again to make sure.
