Wicked City (2022)
Good concept, but...
Even if it were a soap opera or telenovela, the over-acted melodrama is cloyingly interfering. At times the dialog and interactions put it on par with YA-bordering on juvenile-programming.
It's like a repackaged new age children's series trying to wear mommy's makeup and adding in some PG/R rated themes and hallucinogens in attempt to hook some adult attention.
It might be summarized as an ALLBLACK wannabe version of Charmed, but even less "believable".
If it hadn't been for the uniqueness for the target audience and niche network, I sincerely doubt it could have survived long enough to air the first season without being kicked to the curb. Even the attempts at new age fantasy schlock fall short.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Disappointing...
As a nearly 50 year Doctor Strange fan, I was disappointed. Kind of like coming down for Sunday breakfast and getting lukewarm mush...
***with sprinkles***.
The first one was good, with hints of great. This was definitely a step down, for me.
Hoping other's find in more enjoyable, because I'm still a Strange fan.
Maybe it's just me, but Disney seems to be increasingly turning absolutely everything into unappetizing glop.
The Hill and the Hole (2019)
Painfully inept!
There's no science here to even approximate science fiction. Even the handling and use of land surveyor's tools (theodolite) is woefully ignorant; demonstrating that no attempt was even made to approach any sort of science or intellectual reality.
Don't waste your time... or eyesight.
More Than Only (2017)
Better to watch a daytime soap-opera.
It's just too contrived, too melodramatic and overacted for what it is, and the music/singing is just bad.
Shen tan Pu Song Ling (2019)
"Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio" is a collection of Classical Chinese stories by Pu Songling (played by Chan)
This really is an underrated movie. If it were in English it would likely have a 6 to 7 rating I'm certain. Classic Chan with a variant on some Classic Chinese literature, "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio". It is similar to some of the modern versions of "Journey to the West".
Too Old to Die Young (2019)
Excruciating...
Somebody said the dialog was sparse?
What it is excruciatingly trite...
with a...
dramatic pause...
after virtually every...
sentence.
When even a coke whore...
is in slow motion...
you just know...
something is wrong...
The first episode is...
45 minutes to an hour...
of painfully drawn out dialog...
stretched out to...
an hour and a half.
I'ts like the episode...
was wasted on heroin.
It took me two sittings...
to force myself...
through the first episode...
due to falling...
asleep.
I don't know that I'll have the patience...
to give the second episode...
a chance.
The Demon Files (2015)
Typical "Reality" claptrap
It's cherry-picked bits and pieces spliced for sensational effect, just like the rest of the genre.
While I am disinclined dismiss Sarchie as unknowledgeable or ineffective, I do have to sincerely question the veracity of anyone of his alleged caliber that would have any tolerance for the sensationalism and promotion of intrigue for this type of work. The show becomes an enticement for precisely what he claims to warn against, by way of ineffective fear tactics.
Having watched the first three episodes and heard about how they "feel" a cold spot when they have been running up and down stairs to the point of perspiration; is not evidence, it's hearsay... measure it! Claims that a light anomaly on a recording must be spirit because dust doesn't move that way and cant change size... seriously? Is there any realization of the fluid dynamics of air, or the physics of light in refraction here? After all, your not watching a particle change or roll, but an anomaly of light. Sarchie may be able to learn a great deal here by taking up smoking a pipe in the early morning or late afternoon and just observing.
The ubiquitous granting of power to objects to be doorways to "evil" and all the episodes going straight to provoking situations are disturbing at very least. These people should be all too aware that when you call something enough, sooner or later something is likely to answer (whether it was originally there or not)... not to mention the more you practice, the better your get. Any time you open up a conversation in this type of circumstance; it IS an INVITATION!
While the program is somewhat interesting, it could only be found captivating by the most superstitious of personalities. The best rating I could possibly give at present would be a 6, and trying preserve some modicum of respect for the team.
