Decided to give this a rewatch tonight. Came away feeling very much the same as I did upon first viewing. The annoying young adult boy can't stop making poor choice after poor choice to get the events of the movie kicked off. I get that these movies almost always start out with these sorts of events, but it's very glaring in this film.
Unfortunately, it detracts from a wonderful performance from the mother, and some delightful blood and gore as the movie marches on to its climax. I also like that they changed the setting of this one to an urban area, which gives it a different look and feel. It's a mixed bag, to be sure.
It's probably the least impressive of the movies in the best horror franchise of all time.

Sometimes it's ok to just let these classic movies live on as their own thing. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to give the director a shot at this franchise because... those 3 new Halloween movies are atrocious. Not funny, not scary, did not need to be made.
I was bored to tears with this film and kept looking at my watch to see how close it was to being over. The characters were forgettable, the story is nothing new, and I had to stop myself from laughing out loud at the acting quite a number of times.
Just watch the original and then if you want a follow up, watch the director's cut that has some extra scenes.

I can't help but enjoy this dumb show. Watching these people "fall in love" while drinking themselves into oblivion is peak trash television. My only suggestion: the producers need to throw a few BOMBS in there if they really wanted to test this ridiculous concept. They're all moderately attractive people on both sides, it's easy to say yes because what's on the other side is going to look pretty good. It would really change the equation if you throw some physical disasters in there. It will never happen because Netflix is way too cowardly to take chances like that, but it would make it way better.
