Palm Springs (2020)
Great comedy followed by mediocre drama
The first half of this movie is great lighthearted fun. It was the funniest / most fun first half of a movie I've seen in a while. However, it unfortunately falls into the trope of adding drama for the sake of conflict. This movie would've easily been a 9/10 had it kept up the fun of the first half and had the two main characters trying to figure out how to get out all while dealing with Roy. I also found that the dramatic portions were not as well written and had some questionable character development.
I don't think the ending even made sense. So Nyles and Sarah make it out of the time loop and are chilling in the pool after having gone through so much together. Ok, that's nice. But then we get a scene where Roy shows up and Nyles doesn't recognize him? Why does he remember Sarah and not Roy?
Daybreak (2019)
Mildly amusing, nothing new
This show has funny moments and I like the costumes, but overall it feels like I'm watching another zombie movie from 2007.
It's got:
-Generic teen boy + generic teen girl love story
-Zombies (with the slight variation that they say things that serve as commentary for shallow conversation)
-Main character that talks to the camera
-Labels that pop up on the screen that go "ding".
It's extremely predictable but, again, pretty funny at times. If you've never seen Zombieland or any of those other cheesy post-apocalyptic teen dramedies, this might not seem as bland and overdone to you.
Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production (2015)
Terrible
This show puts on a decent first impression. It's the Looney Tunes back at their roots with slapstick shorts. Depending on the episode, there are some actually funny jokes amidst the many cringeworthy attempts at being funny. After watching more than a couple of the sketches, it becomes obvious where this show falls flat. Most of the show is centred around Bugs Bunny and a new addition to the Looney Tunes cast: some lame non-anthropomorphic squirrel. This squirrel is the only Looney Tune that doesn't talk or do anything particularly interesting. Not only does it lack interesting personality, but it lacks any personality at all. It's a generic cartoon squirrel that doesn't add anything to the series. The worst part of the show is how repetitive it is. The writers seem to have found a formula they're happy with. Despite this formula not being particularly funny or interesting, the writers use it as a template for every single sketch. Here's how literally every sketch I've seen went: -Bugs bunny enjoying a peaceful day -Some character (sometimes another looney tune, sometimes a new one) disrupts Bugs' peace -Bugs essentially gets into a fight with them and they both mess with each other until -Either they put their differences aside, or Bugs annoys them until they leave. That's it. That's the whole show.
Better Off Ted (2009)
The more I watched, the less I enjoyed
This show started off pretty interesting, but that only lasted until I caught on to the humour. It seems that 90% of the jokes in this show are about sex and, while they can be funny once in a while, they get old fast. You'd think the writers could come up with some more original material for what they had to work with. They had so many things to joke about. The show is about a company that makes weird fictional products but, despite all the potential, the writers seemed to be fixed on just joking about sex. Besides the comedy, there wasn't much to take away from this show. Unlike many other comedies, Better Off Ted didn't provide any interesting story arcs or any reason for me to care about the characters. There was little to no character development in the whole 2 seasons that it lasted and I felt no emotional attachment to any aspect of the show. Because it's a comedy, none of that would really matter if the jokes were great but they were just okay.
