When this hit the drive-in, my then wife wanted to see it so I was wiling to go because she and I grew up with Dennis The Menace. He also had a successful series called Maya.
As I remember it, Jay North seemed a bit uncomfortable but I guess he felt if he wanted to stay an actor this was the price to pay. As I noted, he clearly wanted to stay in the business which is not easy to continue his career after having been a successful child actor. I agree with another observer that the ending of The Teacher stunk. I saw a number of movies in the 70's that had a shock ending. One of his contemporaries, Johnny Crawford also tried to do it and he also looked very uncomfortable.
Both of them obviously felt the need to get as far away from their established careers. Both found ways to move on and appeared to have a satisfying life. In Johnny Crawford's case, he joined the military and served honorably.
Both of them had bumps along the way so do we. It appears the they both kept their sanity. Jay North became a corrections officer which is an honorable career since I am a retired corrections officer. Johnny Crawford recently passed away but his last movie was to raise attention to Alzheimer's which he was suffering from. It looks like Jay North retired from corrections and moved on very well. It is too bad both of them did not get the professional help necessary to move on the next stage of acting.

I had to log in after seeing this movie. One I started watching it, I could not let go. With the exception of having to watch it over two days due to time constraints, I had the feeling that I was watching a movie directed by the Master, Alfred Hitchcock. It kept me at the edge of my seat. Kenneth Branagh would have made Hitchcock proud and he (Branagh) is certainly in the same level . This is not to take anything away from either of these geniuses. This movie also I find to be a worthy salute to the film noir tradition of the 1940's and 1950's. The music score was also faithful to genre. This is a genre that I often enjoy watching. Well done to everyone involved.
I remember this series from 1988. That was before VCR's (remember them) and I worked a lot of evening shifts at that time. I may have missed some episodes so maybe I did not catch critical parts of the story flow.
About the only thing I remember about it was a cigar smoking female alien which was very unusual then. Also the Martians were shadowy and hard to get familiar with as characters.
I enjoy scify on tv and in the movies but I finally had to give up on this show since it was so difficult to watch and keep up with the plots. I think it had a lot of subplots which were also hard to keep up with. The only name actor in it that I was aware of was the late Jared Martin.
I think some times the writers cannot keep up with where the subplots are going. Thank God scify series and movies have improved a lot since then. I guess everyone has to start somewhere.
