Agatha, a middle aged woman, owns a bookshop. She is divorced and has a special relationship with her brother. Her brother, a successful architect, just got caught in an identity crisis. He just heard he has a bohemian brother and his mother just died. You have to keep your mind at the story, because the first 15 minutes it was quite confusing, but we are following Agatha and she really is confusing! She thinks she has it all sorted out and than one day she is in love and her love is really heavy, because it's great energy. This is funny, because she cannot control it yet, so she let light bulbs burst and with her energy she can control traffic-lights. There are a great deal of extraordinary characters in this movie by Silvio Soldini, who also is the director of Pane e Tulipani. In this movie the leading character of Agatha is played by Licia Maglietta, who looks great and want the world to know it! I enjoyed it very much and despite of the first 15 minutes i invite everyone who likes Italian movies with a lot of characters and story lines to go and see this movie!
I have seen this movie, because I was curious about the way the fact of the hostage was being filmed and about Jan Decleir and Jeroen Krabbé working together. The film tells the story behind the hostage taker John V. He is lonely man living in his own world. He is product of our society. Wesselinck is a self made top manager and can afford everything. He gets to know John by coincidence ( or not ). John is writing letters to Philips because he suspects the multimedia company of putting encoded messages in 'widescreen'tv-sets. John is no longer seeing his wife and children and is a bus driver. In his spare time he writes letters to Philips and watches recorded tapes of a popular knowledge quiz. When he meets Wesselinck the top man, they become friends because they are alike. Wesselinck lets John in on a top secret project which has to do with manipulation. The film takes the audience behind the screens and only reveals at the end. All the time you think it's like this and in the end there is a complete turnaround! Superb! I happened to have an interview with Jan Decleir in Rotterdam last February and he told me the movie had been made in three weeks. The cast worked very hard and the result is a great movie! Go and see for yourself!
I recently saw this movie on the International Filmfestival in Rotterdam and was wondering if someone knew who did the soundtrack. I have this song humming in my head, but cannot find the title and performing artist(s)... The movie is about a young French boy who's being followed on the train from Paris to his home on the coast by a girl. So he brings this girl home with him and his parents assume they are boy and girlfriend. When the girl is introduced to a friend of the boy she starts to fancy him more and the boy starts to feel lonely. It looks like she is using him. She sleeps with him, but has sex with his mate. When you think you have figured it out, there comes a nice twist in the story! I liked it and of course the music!
