This movie had some promise, but it flopped hard. The CGI monsters didn't look nearly as cool as the cover art, though they were interesting.
The cast is full of cliches. The bada$$ woman who can beat up a trained fighter holding a knife while she is barehanded. And not get a scratch. Her guy friend is a wimpy coward who literally falls to the ground to cringe at the main guy's threat.
Now, I know that it is translated in the subtitles to English, and they may not be 100% accurate, but the gaudily clad woman keeps talking about a TV show, which makes no sense. Perhaps it should have said virtual reality. The various incarnations of our cast is also confusing, as it isn't properly explained. The ending is also stupid.

This was so disappointing. Third guy to play Hellboy, and he is by far the worst. British actor Joseph Marcell is oddly miscast, and his "religious" affiliation is ill-defined. He is called Father, but isn't Catholic, and his profanity-laced dialogue is out of character for any man of the cloth. The acid-trip scenes are annoying, as is Hellboy's constant cigarette smoking. I thought he preferred cigars? The female lead is decent, and the wishy-washy guy co-lead had potential, but the director couldn't seem to bring the struggle out as anything more than flaky. The story was inconsistent, and didn't always make a lot of sense. Stick with the first 3. Much better movies.
It seems that many of the reviewers missed the point of this story, and that shaved a couple of points off of their review. Maybe they think they are entitled, as the characters did, to whatever they see in the world.
The premise is that a body is excavated/retrieved from a river, and the person was 300 yrs old when they died. Fountain of youth. Only catch is, the people that live there are in a symbiotic relationship with a huge dragon-looking snake, that later reveals two more heads. Then it suddenly has 5 or 6 heads. Very Hydra-esque. No explanation was given. Nor was one given for how the chieftan speaks English fluently, though it does make speaking with our heroine easier.
Baldwin shows why he is the third best actor in his family, (though probably the best human being), as he is the typical "jungle survivalist" tough guy. The girl is the real lead, and is decent. The corporate guys are all idiots who refuse to listen to the people they paid to guide them. The CGI is weak, and the natives range from hot babes to guys who look really out of place in the jungle. Not great, or even good. Typical Sci-fi fare.
