It's not a standard film like most that are made today, and I think that's both a virtue and a flaw, it depends on what your taste is. The change and refreshment was welcome, but I personally do not like director Eggers' style. The story is good as are the characters which are not the typical copy paste method I usually see. The sequence of the story is a little different and it is not always expected, although I got the impression that I was watching some kind of remake of Conan (the good old one), and this one is even bloodier and more brutal. My problem with this film is the style, which I have already mentioned. It contains a few strange scenes that are left up to one's own interpretation as to what exactly they mean and stylistically diverge from the rest of the film. I believe there are plenty of people who will like it.
A type of film and comedy that is extinct today. It contains an abnormal amount of comedy in barely 90 minutes of the film, and it's of various kinds: from the obvious ones you can't help but see to the subtle ones that aren't in the foreground, dark humor, farce, old slapstick, dad jokes, there's nothing not to miss. Today, a film like this would certainly not be made because it would be considered sexist, racist and what not. Stupidity.
On the other hand, although I think that the film certainly succeeded in its intention, it seems to me that it has not aged well and that it is not really for the newer generations who would not appreciate this kind of humor.

I knew that this day would come sooner or later, that I would watch the movie even though absolutely nothing attracted me, and before watching it I knew that this was a completely unnecessary sequel. I've watched it now and I can safely say Spoiler: this is a completely unnecessary sequel. The original Gladiator is an almost perfect movie, a great combination of epic spectacle, great acting, unique music, story and a satisfying ending.
This movie doesn't really bring anything new to the table. In fact, it even draws on the legacy of Gladiator and recycles some things. Without going deeper into the story and characters, we have only a mediocre movie for one-time entertainment. Ok story, solid roles, fun fights and I got a meh result in the end.
Maybe it's a little bit unfair to compare these two movies, because this one loses handily in every duel, but then why even make a sequel after so many years when the first movie is so great on every level?
