Originally airing on MTV Networks, If I Were King is easily one of the best "Made for TV" fashion documentaries in recent years. The film follows Sean Combs in a surprisingly transparent view of how a collection is put together specifically for New York Fashion Week.
After Combs made history as the first black designer to win the CFDA menswear designer of the year, his Sean John brand slowly began to take a backseat to his other business ventures and lost much of its "edge." In this film we see Combs working with other designers (he is surprisingly hands on in the design process considering his celebrity status), developing concepts and traveling the world with his staff to put together his new collection and his runway show at the same time.
Though there is certainly some "romanticizing" to the process for film, the film is excellent and a must watch for anyone interested in the fashion business.
