I had heard all the festival buzz about Bob Trevino Likes It, so I jumped at the chance to see it at RIFF last Friday. You immediately connect with our heroine, who displays her people-pleasing ways with a sweetly broken earnestness. Then you see how she got that way, with a father who is present only physically (French Stewart impressively showing the darkness behind his affable demeanor.) So, you root for her when she finds a pure and wholesome connection, and what seems like a movie about that connection becomes so much more, with a gut-punch conclusion that had the whole audience in tears. Great performances, writing and message. Go see!
I really enjoyed this film and am bowled over by Mx. Ehlen's talent in all respects. Touching, but not maudlin, often very funny with beautiful cinematography and well-drawn characters. The cast is wonderful, and the casting of young Jay is like, whoa.
