Dr. Ken is a family show that focuses on the life of a Korean-American doctor. Ken has a wife Allison, who is Japanese-American and a therapist. They have have 2 kids, the typical teenage daughter and the smart odd young son. The show is about Ken's family life and his work life, in both he's a bit clueless to things.
I would say this show is passable, it's nothing you'll be very excited to watch, but it's something you can watch. The problem is there's nothing fresh to the show, besides the fact that it's culturally mixed, which is great. But it's not very funny, the writing is basic, and the delivery on acting is just okay.
The cast and characters are great, but the writing is too weak and it doesn't seem like there's much effort in making the show. The actors are fine, just needs better production and writing.

Speechless isn't overwhelmingly good, but it's definitely a above average show. This is a show about a dysfunctional family with a son (JJ) who has cerebral palsy. They are mostly a shameless family and not at all conventional, which makes for some pretty funny scenes. They recently just moved into a pretty beat up house, in a new town, in order to give JJ a better education. This is a show that always deliveries good laughs and not the cheesy stuff. I really love the blend of characters in this show, they are each unique in a special way. I also love the fact that the family isn't typical, they aren't high middle class and don't have a fancy looking house. The family is kinda a more rough version of the Hecks on the Middle. The writing is pretty good and it's fun to watch. This is a show that's better than your typical comedies like: Kevin can Wait, Dr.Ken, Mom, The Odd Couple etc.
This is such a amazing show and definitely something special and new. The show follows the lives of 3 siblings all born the same day, in the present and the lives of their parents (their childhood) in the past. Each sibling is dealing with their own personal issue. As the show goes on, you learn many new aspects of each character. The way it's written there are so many twists and turns, it keeps you wanting more. It's real, heart felt, funny, and serious. I love that it's so far from typical, it's not your typical family show, with the typical characters. I also love that it tackles issues like: obesity, race, drugs, parenting, sibling relationships, relationship issues. I find it great to see a show that has characters struggling with weight and not making a joke of it, and featuring a black family, without making un-tasteful black jokes or doing stereotypical black characters.
