A lighthearted animated film about a rooster and his dreams, set in a Mexican ranch full of funny characters, this Mexican movie is very different from a Pixar classic, but the animation is quite good, the storyline is simple and full of references to other classic movies like Rocky, The Godfather, The Karate Kid, I found some parts real funny and there are a couple of musicals, we have seen the same story many other times but I guess the Mexican approach is what makes it different, the voices of the characters are made by very recognizable Mexican actors for the Spanish version, its good for both young and their parents, just don't expect a "Finding Nemo" level.
I am reading some reviewers that say it didn't deserve the Oscars (SEVEN of them), have you ever said "he didn't deserve the touchdown", he just got it PERIOD, the movie IS A JEWEL, no more no less, an extraordinary achievement in many levels, the story is minimalistic (not thin, not simplistic), the acting is top notch, the visual effects are incredible, the music and the sound are excellent, I was on the edge of my seat the whole 90 minutes, I have seen more than 2,000 movies in my life, this movie is at my top three, that is how good it is, Alfonso Cuaron films include Little Princess, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Great Expectations, Children of Men, Solo Con Tu Pareja, he has grown over this years to become one of the Greatest Directors of our time, I strongly recommend you to see this film, preferably in 3D at a theater, sadly Im not sure if you are going to like it, it depends on your movie preferences.
First I have to say it is not your typical Hollywood Movie, it isn't Adam Sandler Big Daddy either, its a Mexican comedy with a touch of drama, the great thing about this movie is how well Eugenio puts it together, its fast paced, great acting, nice cast, with good shots and a fine score, it takes you on an emotional ride, you laugh and then you almost cry, then you laugh again, don't worry about subtitles its very easy to follow, the box office down here in Mexico has been spectacular, we had 900,000 viewers Saturday 21st of September, I hope this movie to be the beginning of great crossover films, my brother said "you cant miss it", I agree
